CSP also has a large portion of their fleet as unmarked with out light bars and push bars. I work for a PD in northern CT and work very closely with CSP on I91. A lot of the CSP fleet now have unmarked black chargers with the 396 ( very fast) They also have unmarked Expeditions and Durangos. Most of the "patrol" guys have the crown vics with detachable light bars, which a majority of them take off because they are allowed to take their cruisers home and use on personal time. Since the crown vics are no longer in production they are using the chargers and taurus now. My departments fleet is all crown vics, Traffic Unit has expeditions, and DB uses unmarked taurus's. In the very near future the patrol fleet is going with the Interceptor SUV when the rest of our crown vic fleet expires. We have 8-10 interceptor SUVs on order which should arrive mid august, we will also have a few of them that will be totally unmarked, and a different color than the rest of our fleet. Honestly some people don't even pay attention to marked or unmarked. I can tell you that I've pulled up next to other cars on the road with a clearly marked police cruiser with people chatting away holding their phones to their ears, look over at us and continue on like we aren't even there. Clearly now with people not being able to maintain their lane it's most likely a DUI or someone texting away or playing on an iPad/tablet.

I use to work for NYPD Paul Browne is full of crap, the service areas for NYPD didn't even like we dropped vehicles off for a PM, never mind routine inspections. I'm sure GM found the problem prior to the mechanics for the city.

You can't just take a cell phone just for investigative purposes. Just to see how the fire started on a car fire isn't going to be good enough it's not like it was arson if it was I'm sure the PD would be involved in it. If you do get someones personal cell phone without their permission you are going to open yourself and the department up criminally and civil lawsuits. Plus your going to need good enough probable cause to go through the phone which is going to a search warrant to get any pictures or videos out of a civilain cell. FYI

I think it's actually rediculous that it's come to this I did 7 years and it's the best move I made to get off that job they are worrying more about jamming up cops then catching criminals. It's a violation of civil rights for them to tell them what they can and can not wear off duty, on duty that's a different story if your in plain clothes. A lot of the articles that I've read over the past two days says no coffee mugs pens, basically anthing that isn't bought from the NYPD equipment section is unauthorized if it's bearing the logo. Someone should make up NYPD toilet paper and put in in the stalls at headquaters. You can't even say that the job is down the tubes, THE JOB IS DEAD
