Regarding a recent fire in Peekskill area, not to judge anybody whatsoever, but if this was a true working fire, how come a FAST wasnt dispatched or put on standby?? There has been so much discussion lately about FF safety...this a good example. A fire in the walls on the #2 fl of a commercial building. I'm sure it took a few mins to open up and find the source and check for any further extension. First off, its a commercial building. What would have happened if the fire had in fact extended and now by opening it up, the fire has intensified and conditions are deteriorating quickly. What type of building construction was it? If a FAST was called or at a minimum put on standby upon confirming a 10-75, they would be set up at the scene or ready to respond now. If just dispatched when conditions have deteriorated, the FAST is now behind in response since it takes a few mins to assemble and respond plus a rapid FF rescue has been jeorpordized with the delay in response. Again, I'm by no means mocking anybody's decisions!!!!!

Croton FD Eng 119-FASTeam, Buchanan FD Utility 12-Cascade and Cortlandt VAC also operated at scene.

I also heard that Yorktown VAC's new rig should be a LIfeline....
-
I believe Peekskill PD still uses an old Peekskill Vac rig as their "ESU Truck"...

I could not agree more with the fact that FAST is not just for structural fires....On 8/13/04, Mohegan FD requested Yorktown's FAST to the scene of a HAZMAT incident. The reason for this was that members of Mohegan and the HAZMAT Team were operating in a very volatile atmosphere inside a large commercial structure.

Whats that saying...Keep your eyes open for falling objects....

Last year I noticied that a group of FF's from Westchester marched in the St Patty's Day Parade in NYC. Is this open to everyone or just specific depts in the county?

Mohegan's territory on the Taconic is from Rt 202 north to the Westchester/Putnam County line. Mohegan responds with Eng 252 and a Mohegan Ambulance SB from Rt 6, while Eng 254 and a Yorktown Ambulance respond Northbound from Rt 202 to all PI's. Engines only respond to any reported fires. Any incident above Rt 6, typically Eng 252 and either Eng 258 or 255 out of HQ will respond. The EMS response remains the same with Mohegan VAC responding NB from Rt 6. All POV's are allowed on the pkwy, unless told otherwise.

I also believe U-5 responds to MVA's with the Jaws when Eng 183 is Out of Service.

In Mohegan, all volunteers carry their gear with them and respond directly to the scene. The career personnel drive the apparatus to the scene. Volunteers can ride the apparatus to the scene if in quarters when an alarm comes in.

Outback Steakhouse is reportedly going in where the 7 Stars Restaurant is on Rt 132 right off of Rt 6 and Nathan's and Kenny Rogers is going in the Cortlandt Town Center next to the post office.

Tuscan Market on Rt 202 has quality foods... a little expensive, but good!

I also heard Peekskill Fire get dispatched for a Possible Structure Fire in area of Peekskill VAC on Main St a few mins after the ball dropped....

Mohegan FD VAC officially took delivery of the new 69B3 yesterday. The rig is in the process of being outfitted with the radios, markings and being stocked with equipment. A few new features, but seems that it will have just as many complications as the other 2 rigs (already there was an electrical problem which delayed delivery!). We'll see what happens down the road....

Besides those departments building new firehouses, are any departments currently or planning on expanding, renovationing or modifying their station?

The new 69B3, a 2004 Ford F-450/Wheeled Coach will be delivered by the end of November (It was ordered in early October). It replaces a 1999 Ford F-450/AEV.
-
Officially, the new 69B3 will be a 2004 F-450 Wheeled Coach. The new rig will be almost identical to the 2 current Wheeled Coach's in service as 69B1 and 69B2 with few modifications. Being one the Engineer's of Mohegan FD VAC...I was totally in favor of a PL Custom over a Wheeled Coach. The body structure and composition was tremendously stronger and designed far beyond what Wheeled Coach has to offer. The current 69B1 and 69B2 were purchased off the lot in 2001 for roughly $75,000 each. Ever since delivery, these rigs have been plagued with problems from the electrical components, body structure, transmission, compartment door hinges breaking among various other problems that has caused frequent down time!!![-X :-k #-o. Although this said, the replacement committee felt that it would "better suit our needs" to get a Wheeled Coach since it will be in a 5 year replacement cycle ](*,) . Unfortunately during the VAC meeting in October, the Wheeled Coach out voted the PL Custom by popular vote ](*,). In addition, PL Custom was taking too long to send the bid back. So in the end, the new rig will be bought off the lot just like the others.
