In the words of FDNY Chief Vinny Dunn, "Never Trust the Truss!"
-
To be quite honest with you, I personally don't see a need for any of the Battalions. No offense but what do they bring to the table? Liason between a Dept. and 60 control? Depts. that are already dispatched by 60 can contact them directly and those that aren't can have their individual dispatchers contact them by phone or radio. It's not as if their participating in planning an incident's Strategy and Tactics. This is, or at least should be, left up to a Dept's. IC and his fellow Officers. JMO.

Absolutely the Truck should be sent whether your using equipment off of it or not. How about the additional manpower it brings, not just for mva's but car fires also. What are you going to send just an Engine Co. with 2,3 or 4 guys only. The problem is the PD most of the time not wanting to shut down the pkwy. like ladder12 stated. How come it's o.k. to send a Ladder Co. with an Eng. Co. for an mva or car fire on a roadway in town, but not on a similar incident on a parkway or thruway? Makes no sense.

I'm with you Seth. I too don't honestly know the reason or the need for it.

First off I have 25yrs in the fire service so I think I know a little bit about how other Depts. are organized and operate. Secondly, I've got the utmost respect for all ffs. both Career and Volunteer, regardless of how many are assigned to an apparatus or what their actual job title and function is. Third, don't get pissed off at me for my comment, get angry with your peers. I only repeated what I've heard over the course of my career from members of all Depts. including the smaller Combos. I've heard many guys from these smaller Depts. poke fun at themselves, saying all they do is "hook up and look up". So if you want to get pissed off, go after those you work with who are instilling in the minds of others this image of your Job. Take it out on your so called fellow Union Brothers at the next meeting. Their the ones downplaying and mocking your existence, which I for one neither agree with or believe for one second. Stay Safe!

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't think I'd hit a nerve. I guess I should have said Professional Career Firefighters, who are assigned as Motor Pump Operators and Ladder Co. Chauffers. Relax!
-
Yeah, they found it in the back of the old Rescue! There's a dead issue.

New Rochelle can for the most part handle their own and Yonkers definitely doesn't need to regionalize, neither should FDMV. The City Fathers need to step up and fix the problem and not depend on other municipalities to constantly bail them out. You want to regionalize, regionalize the smaller Volunteer and Combo Depts. that only have paid Chauffers. Regionalize Eastchester/Scarsdale; Pelham/Pelham Manor; Town of Mamaroneck/Larchmont and Rye/Rye Brook/Harrison/Port Chester. No reason a City like MT.Vernon should have to Regionalize. Enough already!

Then why not ask YFD Leadership to borrow one of their spares or a neighboring Dept.? What's the worst they can say, No. We all have no problem running over there on m/a time and time again to help out. What's the difference.
-
Does anybody know if FDMV got their 2nd truck back in service yet? Just wondering where my weekend will be spent.
-
You guys got way too much time on your hands!
-
Truly pathetic!

Bro. I agree with you 100%. Where's the parody though between members of FDNY who are assigned to SOC and those who aren't? Don't SOC members get 12% over a regular ff. on your JOB or something like that? I heard that deal in your last Contract created alot of riff between FDNY members. Do ESU Cops get more then a standard patrolemen on NYPD because they're part of an elite unit? What about those assigned to the antiterrosim units and other Special OPS Units of NYPD? Just curious.
-
Hey Capt., the Officers on your Ladder Cos. carry a set of irons? Never heard of that, just maybe a small Officer's Tool. How many guys on your Truck Cos. anyway? Why doesn't the Chauffer carry the Irons? Just wondering how you guys operate. P.S. I not only carry a framing square in my helmet for sliding under a door to check for victims on the other side, but also a boomerang, for 2nd floor ventilation.

Ted Kennedy for Lifeguard! That whole family was and is nothing but a disgrace to Politics and brought most of their hardships on themselves, not to mention the lives of others they destroyed. Time and time again they've gotten away with things that you and me would be tossed in jail for. Have another cocktail Teddy! "Era,era, era, where's my Martini?"
-
I believe Yonkers FD does also with certain Engine Cos. in certain areas of the City. I guess there's something to be said for a Reverse Lay.
-
Chief, has YFD purchased all their new equipment and apparatus, along with that for SOC with their annual budgeted money or is this equipment/apparatus or a portion thereof purchased thru Grant money filed for and received post 9-11. Just curious.
-
It should be on the cuff for any and all members who respond to the Vern on m/a every other day!
-
I heard it's 3rd due to the Vern.
-
I heard he hitched a ride back from the Vern!
-
Most Depts. in lower Westchester already see enough of you guys. No offense.
-
Pelham Manor FD, Yonkers, and FDNY are the only Depts. that seem to have Balls when it comes to this issue! Now if the rest of the Career and Combo Depts. stepped up and took the same approach maybe FDMV would get somewhere with their manning issue and would finally rely less on m/a, instead of resorting to Regionalization/Consolidation as the cure all! That's the easy way out for City Officials.

Better equipment, better contracts, because of "customer service" responses. That's not necessarily true. Let's face it, it all depends on what municipality you work for. That maybe true to some extent in an affluent community where the majority of its residents expect you to take your boots off prior to entering their residence, but not in a poorer, inner city community, where they're just happy to see you. If productivity is what they want, and that's debatable depending on who "they" are, in order to treat and compensate the FD fairly, then there should be no reason to close stations and companies. I've dealt with City Officials who right out, blatantly said, " I don't care what other services you'll provide, your not getting the contract you want, nor more manning and equipment." So is that the answer then? We're to take on more of a workload, including unnecessary m/a coverage, with less manpower and equipment because fires are down? I really haven't seen the benefit. I haven't seen an increase in our workforce because we're now responding to "Heat Complaints." The only thing I've seen is an increase in our total annual runs, and an unnecesarry increase in the wear and tear on apparatus which to begin with, are manned by a skeleton crew. We're now doing more with less and the City Officials could care less, until its election time and then they promise you the world which usually comes to an abrupt stop after they're elected. If the general public still has that old concept of us, of sitting around playing cards waiting for the "Big One", then maybe we should all learn to keep the apparatus doors shut when in qrts. or at least tell the guys to not sit and hang around on the front apron, hooting and hollaring at everyone that walks bye. Out of sight, out of mind. Let's stop being our own worst enemy. That includes washing your cars in plainview of everyone.

Doing inspections on commercial and multi dwellings annually saves more lives? Maybe if you work in a municipality that enforces the codes. If not it's a waste of time. I've gone to buildings a year later, whether it was for a Job or a Reinspection, and the same violations were there, so who's kidding who. Inspections for the most part are a waste of time and we all know it. EMS by FD is also a waste of manpower and equipment, unless absolutely necessary. The problem is FD gets dispatched on everything instead of the calls being triaged. Nothing like a Dispatcher asking if your in service to respond to a structure fire but your still tied up on a general illness call. What a Joke!

Please let's stop feeling sorry for the poor illegals, especially when 60% of the Federal Prison Population is made up of them. We already have enough degenerates who are legal citizens commiting crimes, we don't need these lawbreakers adding to the stats.. Isn't anyone just a little pissed off they have more rights then you and get free health care? I don't care what Nationality they are, they break the law deport their a**. You want to come to this Country and live the American Dream, then do it thru the proper channels like my Grandparents did. As far as paying hire prices for veggies and burgers, I could care less so long as our National Security isn't being compromised. Let's get our priorities straight folks.
