Does that mean you can get a Hummer as a Chief's Car? I'd like to see that.
-
I heard she got promoted.
-
Does Tony approve of this? If it was yrs. ago, he'd call you guys nothing but a bunch of snake oil salesmen! OH, btw, QTIP!
-
I don't think they'll be that angry if they fill those open spots with OT.
-
Doesn't matter in the Vern. You can have a felony(s) and still get appointed. Not to mention you don't even need a GED. What a Yob! It's a total disgrace to the Fire Service as a whole. The Job has just become a Job to many. It's no longer a "Calling", it's a numbers game. OH well, you get what you pay for, now deal with it FDMV!
-
It's amazing. We are now doing more with less. Go figure.
-
It sounds like it's time for that Decree to be put to bed, once and for all. Enough is a enough already! Why doesn't the Union fight it? Are they afraid of not being politically correct and making enemies? Too Bad!!!!!!!!!!
-
What, was there an order out back then not to where any Scott Packs? I see 2 guys with SCBA donned.
-
What's that written in EBONICS? Say What?
-
I thought Volunteers in FDMV wore Red Helmets back then?
-
What's wrong with their gear? Maybe beat up because of a heavy work load? I for one never wanted to look like I just stepped out of a Galls catalog.

The Fire Service has become nothing but a numbers game. Today, it's all about quantity, not quality. It's just a "Job" to many today, no longer a "Calling". What a shame, cause in the end, it's the Public who suffers!

I was thinking along the same lines Chief, but in Northern Westchester such as combining Yorktown, Somers, Mahopac, Mt.Kisco, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Bedford, Bedford Hills, etc.etc. In fact maybe the idea of a new Northern Westchester Career Dept. encompassing these Towns and Villages could be looked into. Then they'd always be guaranteed a set number of personnel responding no matter what time or day of the week. I know if I was a Volunteer FF in one of these Communities I'd be the first to sign up for the test. Nothing like getting paid to do something you love so much. I'm sure it could be done, personalities aside.

Well from what everyone is saying about this Job, emptying the booster tank might have been a viable option. Sometimes certain Jobs call for a Blitz Attack with a Deck gun. I've seen it used with great success, even in Career Depts. where the avg. response time is only 2-3 minutes and sometimes with only one member. I've seen alot of taxpayers $$$ wasted over the yrs. and hiring career guys isn't wasteful spending in my eyes. Not to mention you'd have quicker response times for all other incidents such as mvas with entrapments. Just out of curiosity, how many members are required to show up before a rig leaves quarters for an alarm and what is your average response time at say 3:00am?
-
I think it's time boys and girls for many of these municipalities to seriously consider hiring full time ffs. even if it's Career Chauffers to start. You can't tell me these Towns/Villages don't have the $$$$ to pay for a Career Dept. with the exorbitant amount of $$$$ their taxpayers are paying. Where's the money going? Just think how quickly the response time would be, not only if the closest station was dispatched but had their apparatus manned 24/7/365. I'm sure you'd see a big difference, especially in those areas that have an inadequate water supply and rely on Tankers.

Bite your tongue!

Anybody put on standby? I hope so. Remember last time they had no trucks in service on a cold night, I believe they had a multiple alarm. Good Luck fellas! Stay safe!
-
Since the Vern is down to 1 truck co. have they changed their apparatus assignment to incidents, such as lockouts, lift assists, stuck elevators, etc..etc.. Are they now sending Engine cos. on these calls or the Rescue?
-
I have quite a few friends in FDMV and their general consensus is we are NOT a callback Dept. whether there are spares to man or not. How can you expect guys to go back in at 3:00 am for a Job, when they put an engine o.o.s. and drop to 17 men at the beginning of a tour. The City Officials don't care so why should they. They should have had the manpower and equipment in service to begin with, not when the $hit hits the fan. I've never seen a municipality that constantly gambles with peoples lives, both its personnel and citizens. The sad thing is, even if something drastic does happen, things won't change for the better.

First off don't believe everything you read. Maybe it's time I edit my profile. Secondly, not all Depts. agreed to accept each and every condition put forth in the Decree. Some accepted more then others which yes $$$$$ was received by those who sold their soul for the whole package. I have read the Decree and particularly like the conditions on "swimming", which your Dept. actually once required. Thirdly, while the 1st official Academy Class was yes in deed in 1986, many a Dept was utilizing the facilities at the Academy just prior to this with other Depts. and their Instructors, who assisted each other. I guess you could say it was a half a**, unofficial academy class. Fourth, you're going to tell me a recent LTS.List for your Dept. wasn't extended to reach a certain individual? If not I stand corrected but that's not what I've been told by many a member of your Dept., so maybe they should get their facts straight! Have a great day, stay safe and remember 'QTIP" as Chief Flynn puts it.
-
A dumb concept, that thank God has never taken off in this area, even though some Chiefs proposed and we're in favor of it. Ridiculous to say the least. Let's reduce manpower to man one rig. Yeah, that makes alot of friggin sense! "What do I do Boss, What do I do?" "Am I an Engine or a Truck today?" Just another form of "Consolidation."
-
Because your Dept. and the others didn't sell their souls as much in lowering the standards to reach quotas. FDMV did, to get their share of $$$$$$ from the Government. This started back in the late 70's Bnechis before you were ever on NRFD and I already started my career, so you really don't know about this topic as much as I do. I suggest you take a back seat on this one, cause I got the facts. I lived them and we're a casualty of them. I also heard your Dept. has recently experienced alot of controversy and tension as a result of individuals getting skipped for Promotions because of extended Promotional Lists, something your Dept. really never experienced. Well welcome to the real world pal! Let's see how you guys now deal with the dissention among the ranks! Maybe we should Regionalize. Yeah that's the answer! That'll solve everything!

Why is everyone so surprised? This is nothing new not just for FDMV but FD's all over the nation. I think it was a Dept. in Florida that hired a guy who had done time for murder. This has been going on for yrs. in many places not just the Vern. Just take a look at FDMV's application for the Job. They welcome everyone, whether you have a High School Diploma/GED or not, and/or a felony conviction. Nobody is discriminated against, except those of course who actually care about their Job and show an interest in it. Once again, a big thanks to all you "bleeding heart liberals" and "Affirmative Action" advocates for destroying what was once a well respected and honorable profession. The Fire service has become nothing but a "Yob" now to many. I guess the chickens really did come home to roost! P.S. What does Big Al have to say about all of this? Where's he been hiding?

This should be interesting.
