We had a vehicle fire yrs. ago and it began to roll prior to getting the wheels chocked but fortunately we're able to stop it in time. Chock Early! Especially on Hills!

Then there's the other side of the coin Bnechis. What about the guy who's #1 because he had a great day or is the smartest on the Job and has no 6" folder but hasn't done a thing since Day #1 or proven himself to others? Unlike the individual who is #2 or #3 who may have a few skeletons in his closet but has proven himself as not only a great FF. but a true Leader and respected by his peers?

I'd like to see guys show as much interest in learning and doing their Job to the best of their abiltity no matter what their shape is, as they do in having a "six pack" and 0% body fat for the next Calendar Shoot! Now that's being responsible! Let's all start taking a little more PRIDE in our Profession as much as we do in our Pecs! Who cares what kind of shape your in, if you can't take a door by yourself with the adz end of the Halligan. You know, the small rectangular end of the tool. I've worked with guys who have completed Marathons but can't throw a 24' Extension Ladder up by themselves. Let's Get Real Fellows! Wise up and get your priorites straight!!!

The scarry thing though Bro. is, I see more younger guys going down at and after a job, then the older guys and that's a fact! It seems to be the "Norm" now then the "Exception" like it was yrs ago.

I already see a difference with FDMV puttting their 3rd truck back in service. At least M/A companies aren't being dispatched right to the scene and as soon as the 3rd truck and 5th engine are returned to service they release the M/A companies. That's the way it should be. It's about time!!

Now couple a Lack of Experience with Depts. Lowering their Standards and Dumbing Down the Fire Service and we have a real recipe for Disaster! You now have a Dept. where many have to be taken by the hand constantly and shown and explained on how and why things are done. Many individuals in the Fire Service today can not THINK on their own, including our so called "Senior Men" and unfortunately when they are required to do so, their decisions many times are the wrong ones. These are the times when individuals are injured an killed.

You got that right ltrob. I love the guys who have less then 5 yrs. on the Job, especially in slow Depts. and think they're seosoned ffs. cause they're now big time Instructors. Meanwhile the only time they get a chance to practice their skills is when their in a classroom setting. Anybody can read off of a powerpoint! Take the books away from many of these guys and watch how they perform at a true Emergency when the pressure's on. It's like the time I took a class on High Rise Firefighting and the Instructor given it was from a rural town where the tallest building in his district was 3 stories high. Where was his credibilty! I'll take experience any day over book knowledge!

Who cares about these Hollywood Liberals! Pay them no mind.
