I know guys that work with the author of this article. They say he's another one that always has problems with his SCBA and disappears. What else is new.

We should all adopt the Standards of Orange Cnty, Calif..It appears they don't put up with any of this B/S! You can't do the Job take a Hike! Nobody owes you or any other ethnic group anything, period! Get friggin over it already.
-
The citizens of Chicago should be up in arms. How's the "Annointed One" in DC feel about this? These were once his people. We already have enough morons running around with charged hoselines now we're going to give them guns???
-
No truer words spoken Bnechis! Now add to the mix dumbing down the Job requirements and you have a real battle on your hands! That's why years ago FDNY was very selective in who they chose for their Special Ops Division. Don't know if they still follow this past practice.
-
Cappelli and Trump should make up the difference. Screw their tax break! They want proper fire protection for their investment then pay for it otherwise don't build it, which from what I've heard was a bad idea anyway. They're not seeing much of a turnover.
-
That's what happens when you have adequate manpower on the initial alarm! Too bad City Officials can't understand this.
-
Unfortunately like all appointed positions you become a puppet of the administration and nothing but a "Yesman" to the Mayor. If you don't, you'll just be replaced by another lackey. It's unfortunate but most of the time these individuals do forget where they came from.

Put 25 yrs in the Fire Service son and then let me know if you still believe all your rhetoric. I'm talking from 1st hand experience working in a Dept. that sees more then its fare share of fire duty. Going to Fire Science College and taking the same courses you're going to receive in the Academy and be offered throughout your career on the federal and state level is completely different then taking your regular academic courses. Can you please tell me how majoring in Economics, Bus.Law, Accounting, History, Marketing, etc.etc. is going to prepare one for the Fire Service and make you a better firefighter or Officer?
-
College, smollege! Give me a break already! What the Fire Service needs are more applicants who know how to use a hammer then some Dope who can hack a website. Give me a guy with a trade, military service or at least some common sense and I'll be happy, instead of someone whose biggest worry prior to the FD was what color tie he was goin to wear with his suit. Let's face it, the biggest concern of most College Grads was what time was free keg or the toga party starting. I should know, I was one of them.
-
Did Pelham FD even have a Career Chief? I thought that was a Volunteer position.
-
Biggest change I have seen is the lowering of standards resulting in incompetent ffs being hired destroying the Fire Service and its purpose as a whole. Unfortunately everyone suffers in the long run.

Gotts that right!

Ya gotta feel for the Brothers in the Vern. This move is an utter disgrace and slap in the face to those dedicated FDMV memebers who give 100% to their Job and that City. Talk about a blow to morale. I give them alot of credit for even going to work.
-
And mis-information is what it is. Don't even waist your breath ltrob. This guy has no clue what he's talking about.

Nepotism 101.

When a position of rank goes from one that was originally a civil service one to one of appointment, you lose all control. You become nothing but a "Yes Man" and Puppet of the City Administration. Period! Unfortunately there are many out there that love the Authority and Perks that come with such Promotions and sell their souls. Sad but true.
-
Why not give it to the only City who had a Foam Truck, like FDMV. Don't they still have Oil City to protect. If anybody needs it, they do. I think they've got alot more at stake having a greater hazard area then these other municipalities. Also, like someonelse once pointed out, Charleston, SC had a Class 1 ISO Rating. That means diddily. Enough already with this paper b/s. It means nothing!

Personally I feel PT should be done on your off time. You want good exercise, put your full ppe on and climb the aerial with a saw on your back a few times. Not only will you be getting a great work out but will be training at the same time. I see too many guys work out for 2-3 hrs in the Station Gym but b**** n moan when they have to go out and do BI. They want to take the elevator to the 7th fl.. Screw it! Walk up! It's great for your Cardio/Vascular and Endurance.
-
ONE THING'S FOR SURE THEY HAD ALOT MORE MANPOWER THEN!
-
What's truly sad is this type of "Tradition" in the Fire Service has been replaced with a "Quota System" and that's why boys and girls you don't see the caliber of people anymore coming on the Job like Smoke. Great story Brother!
-
Not for nothing but members of a Dept. should never take an Order from anyone other then a member of their own Dept., especially a CFC, unless they have all been assigned a specific task under this individual's Command, as per the IC. This is what hapeens when you have everybody and their brother showing up to a Job to play in the sandbox! I'm surprised this kind of $hit doesn't happen more often in Westchester. Every Job seems to become a Big Buff Convention. Enough already! Stay Home if not needed or at least behind the yellow tape. I'll never forget seing a Chief of a neighboring Dept. on a handline at one of our Jobs. Come on already! Don't like where you work cause it's too slow, put in for a transfer! It's time for people to start recognizing their boundaries and really try not to cross them.
-
And even without all the new PPE, I'm sure many of those guys went back to the Station, nursed their injuries if any and got ready for the next Job. You don't see that anymore. We now have a line of guys fighting for the back of the bus and not a Liberty Lines one.

Amazing how the City has 2 million for a reruitment drive but wanted to close Stations and Companies! What a waste of taxpayers money! Do you know that as part of the recruitment drive they give applicants wake up calls and rides to the test sites. Why doesn't the media publish the number of minority applicants that actually showed up to take the test, as to the total number who signed up for it. A test where you can't give a wrong answer. What a disgrace. God help the taxpayers of NYC.
-
Amazing, peoples priorities! Let's worry abouth the aesthetics of a community and not our overall Health and Safety. Imagine how many Career guys Scarsdale FD could add to their staffing with that 13 million.

I'm sorry but I just don't see the logic in taking an Eng. Co. o.o.s. to put a Rescue in service, no matter how slow that Co. may have been. It may look good on paper, until that Eng. Co is now needed at 3:00am for a Job with people trapped in its previous 1st due territory and it's nowhere to be found. I don't care how well trained and equipped a Rescue Co. is, they can't do much without water and I'm sure those whose house is burning would feel the same way. Why take out of service a piece of equipment that is responsible for extinguishing fires and replace it with a gigantic tool box! JMO.
