Photounit - I have to say I have had very similar experiences and I agree 100% I have taken pictures for a long time now and yes while working but I always made sure the task at hand was handled first. I have promoted departments by submitting my pictures to the media as well as to that department for use on their web sites. I have taken pictures at fatal accidents but I did so with tact and if I did catch the deceased, the picture would not be distributed. I have been asked and have provided photos of some DWI accidents to the district attorney for use as evidence. He then made enlargements to stick in front of the jury. I have had victims contact me for copies of the photos to help with insurance claims. That one moment that you might capture can provide a lot of information that may not be found otherwise. (such as Photounit's experience) It may also help the fire or police departments if something goes wrong on the scene during a call like if a person gets injured or killed. So I say keep snapping and just use your best judgment before posting.

Thanks Steve! Dutchess will also be able to patch the network.

I think it would be of great help if people used it properly (yea right were not in a perfect world) But imagine your a call taker and someone calls in an accident, they say they have a camera phone and send you a picture of the accident. This can further assist the dispatchers in assigning the priority of the dispatch. It is definitely a step toward the future.

What is going to happen when SWN is in place? They have to assure all agencies that interoperability is possible. Can this be done from the new sophisticated network down to low band when low band doesn't work that great to start with? Will the county opt to switch everyone over to the SWN system and then scarp the low band? How will the paging system work? That will royally screw us scanner listeners as so far Tyco doesn't plan on making the coding available to scanner companies at this time.

I am sorry if I duplicated this from the other day, I check the site a couple times a day and did not see this. With the amount of post that are done daily on this site, things can be missed. It is also not easy to see from this camera angle, but it appears their was possibly a flash over if you look at the front middle section of the building. But not being there, I could be wrong.

http://www.lufkindailynews.com/news/mplayer/m/7166 Police car video from the Diboll Police Department, Diboll, Texas Many Police cars are now equipped with video cameras that operate automatically when their light bar is “ONâ€. This video (as well as many others) clearly shows the value of these cameras at fire scenes if they can position their car so the camera is aimed at the structure yet out of the way of fire operations. This is a great video clip that undoubtedly can be of great help to the fire investigators as well as the post incident analysis (critique) as well as future fire training. This issue seems well worth the time to meet with your local PD to ask, that they position a car at all significant incidents, if possible, so as to capture the event on film. There are a number of other good clips floating around that have been taken from a police car camera that have been of great value to the local FD. Commercial structure fire from the dash of a PD officer. Actually a great video to show fire progression and if you notice it there is a flashover at 2 min. 51 sec. In the five minutes of video the building goes from smoke showing to fully involved self vent through the roof. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!! Thank You Mr. Police Officer! If I pulled up on that when the cop did I'd would have at least struck a 2nd, and a 3rd might not be out of the question.

Developers will promise governments the world for a donation of land or equipment so things get passed easier. In these days, no one wants to volunteer and the developments add more stress to the road system than they say it does. So the developers get rich toss the government a few bucks, writes that off gets it back and forgets all about you when the job is done. Meanwhile your left with more traffic, more accidents, more fires and less volunteers and your department is forced to hire people driving up taxes that most people can't afford. So anyway if this projects goes forward, accept what they want to give you because it won't be that easy to say to taxpayers "We need to raise your taxes to build / buy... because of all the new buildings." and they turn around, laugh and say NO WAY!

I like side mounts, however I have never pumped from the top and would have to agree either way there are pro's and con's. I also like being able to have a leg on the hose, with the new pumps and gauges today you can't easily tell when you get a water hammer by the gauge and that twitch of the hose gets your attention pretty quick. I also agree, with this weather I would rather be in the panel inside so I can stay warm. It really sucks when there is a foot plus of snow on the ground, the old feet get pretty cold. same when it's 100 degrees in the summer.

They need to get several things done like have NJ create legislation similar to what NY for approval, then they have to get a few things accepted by different federal offices like the FAA to start with. But according to the newspapers officials are planning for an early October takeover by the Port Authority. Great more planes flying over my house!

Didn't know it was out, but it makes sense. There is a picture on the Record's web site of a helo doing a practice landing. I don't know if this is Albany's ship or if this is a new one. Even though it will be a 20 - 25 minute response to our area, it's good to have another ship around.

Nice Engine, Good Luck!

Does anyone know of any online scanners for Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster countys?

Departments have to be very careful, unless your drafting water from pond, ect... they are probably using a municipal or private fire hydrant. This may be viewed as a theft of water as it is not being used for fire protection purposes. So departments have to make sure they are not "stealing" water to profit from the pool filling and if the department is a fire district where tax money is used to purchase / upkeep the apparatus they should also use caution accepting donations to the company side. This is where careful documentation about "drills" and "donations" must be made. After all, you can't always practice water shuttles... I'm sure a lawyer would have a field day with this regardless.

Beacon Volunteer Ambulance just got turnout gear as part of the fire grants. each member is issued a helmet, turn out coat and pants and a pair of extrication gloves. We have the Morning Pride USAR rated gear. The gear can be used on all calls.

I personally like the Beef & Beer Comedy Night - February 3, 2007. It appears as they are a fire protection company as they get funding from 5 municipalities. This may explain how they are able to do the swimming pool thing. It looks like they have some nice apparatus too.
