This discussion is great however we are just pieces of fruit coming together to make fruit salad. The bottom line is the county started a program to provide to the community and by stopping this program and allowing the potential for someone to die they are opening themselves up to liability and a lot of bad press. If they are not going to provided the service then they should be helping all EMS agencies in the county come up with a viable solution.

So we don't hold a "x635" outline over a big powerful light and swing it around the sky like we do for Batman?

I think on October 1st I'm gonna drive fast, crash not get ALS treatment that will affect my overall outcome of recovery and I'll be suing the county...if I die I will make sure my family sues for even more! How can you get rid of a service that you already provide that makes the difference between life and death? (I'll make sure I'm in the middle of the county were there is no place to land a medevac....) Unfortunately the only way to have county wide ALS is for the county to run it and not contract out for it. The southern states have been doing it for years and they seem to do OK with it.

On Saturday July 29, I read the following "breaking news" on line and started listening to the scanner... Times Herald Record This apparently turned into a prolonged extrication from the woods. Life net medevac had been called to fly the person to a trauma center once removed from the woods however it apparently sat at the landing zone for some time and had to cancel it's mission due to being out of service for a long period of time. So they take off. About 20 minutes later I hear command request a police escort to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. My question is why would you put someone else at risk by having them escort you to the hospital when you have lights and siren's yourself. Unless you have a cop at every single intersection and traffic light, is it going to make that much of a difference? Yes the patient should be to a trauma center within an hour but your safety and your crews safety are also important so you shouldn't be driving Mach 1 to the hospital. Opinions?

I'm not saying that the person wasn't possibly seriously injured.

Some of us have taken the ARFF class and they tell you ares of a plane that is safe to cut, but they never mentioned helicopters. That is not something most of us will never do, but it's worth learning about.
