I work with GIS at my job everyday. It's a really good thing to learn. A perfect example is if you ever use any of the online mapping (Google, Yahoo, Microstf) you have used a GIS based project

Yes it is a lot of money. They do run some nasty calls. They also have a long wait for mutual aid to get to most of their scenes. Does it justify 7 million? I don't think so. But I believe they also cover more than what was posted here from the census. I think if they can cut out 5 mil. they might have a better chance. They could also be playing the field and putting an huge figure out their with the idea if it gets voted down they would take stuff out to lower the price and have a better chance of it passing. (I know that's a stretch) Anyway I'm sure they need room and want the place to look nice and not throw up butler buildings to patch a problem. They probably also have problems with the current building and may not be able to add on. Bottom line is we need more facts to understand why they need 7 mil.

Not to mention one department was at a wake for a past chief at the time of the incident I had a situation in my district a couple of months ago where their was a fire literally 50 feet away from my district line and the chief did not call us but departments from the other side of town. My department (responded in under a minute) did get called but only because water command wanted our tanker then the IC immediately canceled us. We have always been their when they or anyone else has asked for our help. I'm afraid it will take someone getting killed & a lawsuit in order for departments to get a wake up call. (Chief Bla Bla Bla why did you call a department 8 miles away when a neighboring fire dept's line was 50 feet away from the burning building and they have a fire station 1 mile away and they have the same equipment? Um Uh..... Politics in the fire service SUCKS! But good luck eliminating it. Just my personal 2 cents

To provide assistance from NY the state has to be contacted in order to supply assistance this then goes to the county coordinators then to the fire chiefs. If you freelance you could face going to jail If injured you will not be covered under your departments insurance If your equipment is damaged no one will pay to fix or replace Agreements should already be in place with departments that are along state boarders in the event of m/a to a neighboring department.
