It's been a while since I did a big extrication (besides a door pop) I was wondering if their was a particular vehicle that gave you the most trouble during the extrication? How did you overcome the problem?

I think todays accident with the Amtrak train on top of a rail car must have been a challenge. It sounds like they had to bend some metal in the engine car to get the operators out.

Very nice, good luck with it

Tricky situation, are the occupants of the other car injured? This is obviously a "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't" situation. FYI - Any ambulance accident that involves injury must be reported to the DOH within 24 hours of the incident. Their is also a time frame for a PDAA w/an ambulance, I don't remember what that was though.

I hope I don't get yelled at for posting this news about the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department......

I got my phone Free from Sprint in the beginning of the month. Phone service is so so (Beacon to Hyde Park area) & Nextel service is worse than when I had just Nextel. The battery doesn't last long most times only last about 24 - 30 hours. I like the phone because it tells you if you drop a Sprint or a Nextel signal. I have the data package (only $10) and that service is decent. The keypad has a good layout. The volume is not as loud as my Nextel was but you can control several types of sound controls (ringer, messaging, calender, alarm, applications, power on, key beep, voice call, speaker phone, call alert & incoming walkie-talkie). I don't like the fact that blue tooth & a camera is not included but the phone was free so I can't complain too much. I also have Verizon and the phone service pretty good.

So is being an Alpha member anything like being an exclusive member of the Skull & Cross bones?

The way it is supposed to work as I understand it is this new system is supposed to have channels for all fire EMS and police state wide to communicate to each other from one end of NY to the other and a common m/a channel if needed. This is also supposed to be a secure network so unless you have a few grand laying around you can forget about listening to it. (yes any radio system is hackable). But as in the case of southern NY it is a waste and will not be used to often (by at least fire and EMS). But like many have said it's still a pipe dream that we (against our wishes) are paying for. Yes the EDACS channels used by the city and town of Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park, town of Fishkill and city of Beacon does work well but only because the towers are on Illinois Mt & Mt Beacon. It also works pretty good in Orange and Ulster who have additional towers. Altogether their are like 7 or 8 EDACS tower sites between the 4 counties. But with any system you use, their are always problem areas.

It's an issue that only Motorola can fix, but expect to be charged for it. I'd say drive over it with your car and go get a new one.

With the unfortunate passing of Matt Lamb the question comes up about who wears their seatbelt in emergency vehicles. While it seems that most EMS crews wear seat belts in the front many do not wear them in the back. Some ambulances are being redesigned to make it possible to move around easier while still belted, but then we still have to make the motion of using it. How many firefighters use seat belts in fire trucks? Do your drivers, does your crew wear them? How many police use them? I know some have their reasons, but really are those reasons going to save your life in a accident? This is just a topic for discussion not finger pointing at anyone specific. We all need to wear them because when a emergency vehicle is in an accident, you can and will be thrown around (or out) of the vehicle more than in your POV.

I totally agree with you 20Truck! EMT's Dependant get spoiled by the medics coming in and doing their jobs for them. Many of today's EMT's need to get off their a** and do what they are trained to do! In real life, a medic is not always going to be there. What makes it worse is the EMT's who basically on drive the medic to the hospital (paid services). I have however seen a trend that the medic is making the EMT assess first (unless obvious ALS) That's good, they need to learn.

I have experienced some slow loads lately (no I'm not constipated! LoL) I attributed it to heavy site traffic. Most of the times were during probable peak times

If the windshield is in the front how the heck do you back into a basketball hoop? The top one from Lehigh Acres, FL Lehigh Acres Fire department must have a firefighter as tall as the cop in N. Carolina
