OK that fills in a piece of the puzzle. When did this policy go into effect, what prompted it? Was there prior discussion with the former Chief about it. Is your department fully volunteer, Paid, combination? Is your department managed by the city/town or is this a separate district /fire protection area? Please help us understand the area you are in.

It's people like those commentators that makes you want to hunt them down and smack the with the stupid stick. Instead of all the criticism they should join a fire department and find out why it takes the time to do the things "that take so long" 5 minutes for an engine to get there is good. I don't know how far they had to travel to get there or what day of the week or time of day but 5 minutes is very acceptable. Very unfortunate that they had 1 firefighter to be in gear to do the job but he did the job and I was glad to see him "on air".

Wait, your saying all current departments would have the same rules, the same training standards, the same type of equipment and use the exact same terminology to make one happy family? That's just insane, who would agree to such a thing! (sarcasm)

My fire department exist to help save lives and property of the residents that we serve. I guess until your on a EMS related call where you save someones life, you may never understand. That someone may not just be a resident of your district it may even be one of your family members or a brother firefighter!

When we got a new chiefs car we took the old one and made it into a multi purpose truck (EMS, Fire Police, etc) to lesson the wear on our larger apperatus.

I blame the increase in emergency vehicle accidents on civilian driver inattention, with cars that drive with little or no concentration and the numerous distractions inside the vehicle people have become "lazy" while driving. Another big reason for more accidents involved in mva's is due to the increased population of cars on the road AND the increased call volume which places more emergency vehicles on the road.
