  5. In a area that has no true boarders, It's up to everyone to work together toward the common goal.
  6. That pipe dream is no different than the one Motorola tried to assemble to create a state wide emergency network on the "D" block, and that failed. It's being pushed by the radio manufactuers to keep them in business. This whole shift for anyone on VHF & UHF to narrowband is also a nightmare. Many departments can't afford it & it goes way beyond haveing a radio reprogramed. This means departments that have very small budgets probably have to upgrade their radios due to incompatability & in some departments it may mean emergency purchases if the change over doesn't work as they thought it would.
  7. Happy Birthday Seth!
  8. Please keep Plattekill Fire Chief Ralph Davis in your thoughts and prayers. Ralph was seriously injured in a crash while working his regular job. He is in Westchester Medical Center with hip fractures and other injuries. He will require surgery but that is delayed due to severe swelling..
  9. Some towns in Massachusetts have experienced smoke from that incident and some have declared a partial states of emergency
  10. I agree with the writers, this department took on way too much! They should have had a plan in place before they went to the Fed's for the grant. Perhaps they should have went in partners with the police if they wanted all the law enforcement extras. They should have gotten marine training and improved their responses on land first. http://articles.phil...ar-union-chiefs
  11. Good Luck Christopher!! You will be fine and come out a stronger person.
  12. My Dept. uses them. They are good & fast. They also recently expanded the store.
  13. 911 Uniforms, Main St, city of Poughkeepsie Also Alfi's uniforms in New Windsor
  14. Yea, but a big difference is between a utility co & the fire service is they have way less people than the fire service and a MAJOR difference is they get paid a lot more than people in the fire service. So who wouldn't want to take a free trip across the country, so what if you have to do work too.
  15. Ultimately yes, each department can do what they want & buy what they want.. NOW is it smart to do that? No. Would it be a waste of taxpayer money? Yes Everyone should carefully review their wants & needs. Buy what you need and not just what you want. This is one reason my fire department (Chelsea) did not buy a ladder and we can justify it. Not to mention we may not always have the staffing to use it. Wappingers does not have an excessive amount of equipment between both stations, but what they have is needed to cover their territory
  16. Beacon tried to push it through but was called out that it needed to have a public hearing before changing the city charter. In addition to the paid Chief, they also want to reduce staffing and response. They have had for decades 3 paid firefighters on during a shift they man 2 engines and a truck as drivers. They want to reduce this to 1 & 1. They average about 1,800 calls a year about half are EMS assist (http://www.beaconfd.org/stats.shtml). The city has 3 engines, 1 truck, 1 rescue & 1 inflatable boat. No volunteers are allowed to operate the apparatus, whenever the truck goes to use the bucket can only be run by a paid firefighter. When the boat (or I should say over sized raft) goes in the water only a paid firefighter can drive it. The city for years has had a paid Lt., recently a paid fire administrator and now they want the paid chief. The reduction in engines in service (manned with a driver) will most likely have a negative impact on the ISO ratings which means higher insurance premiums. This will most likely mean more mutual aid to the city from the volunteer neighbors and less mutual aid in return. To speculate that some shady deals are being made would not be out of the question.
  17. So sad to hear more tragic stories but the guy did what he was trained to do, protect others. This is unlike the one guy who ran out without his 2 kids & wife. Rest in peace Jonathan. http://www.firerescu...eater-shooting/
  18. Yes I was referring to people ignoring the speed limit. This was a NYSP SUV the trooper was extricated by East Fishkill FD
  19. I hope this does not interfere with emergency radios. With more and more transmitting devices we can only expect more problems like this Mysterious force blocks car remotes in Yonkers http://www.lohud.com/article/20120724/NEWS/307240035/Mysterious-force-blocks-car-remotes-Yonkers?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage
  20. So sad the outcome was not better but at least they found him. We must thank the responders and searchers that took the time to look and recover him. I only knew Lenny from here but he seemed to be a very nice guy. Rest in peace brother. For his family and friends stay strong I'm sure he would want you to be.
  21. I hope what ever situation he is in he uses his training to make it home. Saying a prayer for you.
  22. The accident happen on the Taconic just south of Route 82, anything is possible but "50 MPH" seems a bit slow for that road. REGARDLESS, lets be careful out there! State trooper crash probed http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/article/20120724/NEWS01/307240001/State-trooper-crash-probed
  23. A big problem is the city has to approve the appointment of a chief who has been nominated and in the past people have been discriminated against due to personality conflicts. Beacon wants to hear views before vote on paid fire chief http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/article/20120724/NEWS01/307240013/beacon-fire-chief-paid?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|PoughkeepsieJournal.com
