Im sorry if my point got diluted but I was trying to say while yes, one must go the speed safe it sucks when you only need the chains for a little bit, where you go less than 15, but when you dont need them anymore you still cant go over 15.

When the on-spots chains are activated on the rig I have in mind, even if the road is fine to drive on, and just a certain part of the call needed the on-spots, for example having to go up a single unplowed road that are frequent here in Vermont during and after a storm, you can only go up to 15 miles per hour otherwise the on-spots will start to shred the tires.

Just an idea but how funny would it be if someone had their EMTBravo identity on the back of their helmet so one could ID who is who..... While I like all three, the most practical with the most applications and places to stick would be a window sticker. The window sticker can go on just about anything.

Yes but the international is MUCH bigger and badder.....

Especially if you can only go 15 mph..........

Can someone elaborate further on Northern Westchesters ER expansion, where is it going to be, what is going to happen in the mean time, how much will it cost, when will it be done, anything really. I remember hearing a lot about it but that was a little while ago.....and now I have zero info.

With the afore mentioned blue light statutes and what you just said in-mind would you not agree that asking a police officer like yourself or INIT915 or any other police officers opinion on their interpretation and enforcement of blue light laws is acceptable research in determining the laws. Reading the statute is all fine and good but again, would you not agree that seeking someone, especially from law enforcement or a lawyer, to explain the laws and offer their own opinion, even if it is informal, is a good in order to get a better idea of the laws and their enforcement? I thought that this site was about seeking the opinion of others who have experience in the field.

Red has the longest wavelength, lowest energy and lowest frequency at measured value of between 675-750 nanometers while blue has a much higher energy, higher frequency and shorter wave length at between 510 to 430 nanometers. What this means is that one sees blue much quicker because it travels faster with more cycles per second than red, at a greater energy. In addition, it has been noted many times that the human eye sees the color green the best (meaning there are the most defined shades of green), the color blue is closer to the color green on the electromagnetic spectrum. All this information is based off of the assumption that the equation C(speed of light in meters per second)=V(frequency in hertz)/Lambda(wavelength in meters) is how one determines wavelenght.

To the best of my knowledge, the in-service quints in the Westchester County, as to the best of my knowledge and LFD171's site, are: L50, TL27, TL44. L16, L55, TL21, TL1, L4, L56, TL12, L36, L52, L10, L35, TL8, L47, TL45, TL53, L30, TL78, TL46, L34 and L51. The textbook definition of "Quint" has been applied, meaning that the apparatus has a pump, tank, ground ladders, hose and an elevating aerial device.

That was great, while the end was the best part I could have sworn it was Obama talking from 1977 in the beginning.

I have always thought/wondered that myself... Are there any studies out there that detail the effectiveness of a certain flash pattern over another?

I believe that a better combination of lights is required to move traffic effectively. My first due engine has strobes, LEDs and rotators up front and I can honestly say with those lights, plus the Q I have never encountered a vehicle that has not moved out of our way when they could. And yes, better all around warning is required for the modern fire service IMHO. But while there are those who invest more in lights for their apparatus than they do in firefighter training and safety.

I am just asking questions....I do not have the time or the patience to read and interpret the statutes, I know how I read something is not 100% how it should be read or is enforced. I want someone of some knowledge of the PD realm to answer my questions, which occured (thank you INIT915)....not some fire explorer who has no business answering PD questions in which they have no knowledge nor experience. I appreciate those in law enforcement who have given and interpreted the statutes for me, you have cleared up alot of questions.

Ok, another question: Say I am a volunteer fireman in Vermont, a state that allows for all fire department vehicles, volunteer or not to have red lights. What legal concerns do I have driving in a state like New York. and vise-versa Say I am a volunteer fireman from New York where I am allowed to have a blue lights, but the state I am in, say Vermont, uses blue for the color their police uses, what legal concerns do I face there?

I have a question regarding slick-top fire vehicles... It is legal for a slick-top chiefs car like the one above, are there any liability or impersonation concerns that the department or chief needs to worry about. Its obvious since it is marked chief and is firetruck red in this situation, but I have seen fire inspection/marshal and other fire department staff vehicles that have an almost slick-top police car look. example: http://www.specialtywarningsystems.com/Fir...5_side_text.jpg

Here is a question that does not relate to emergency services but on the same lines as this thread: I was driving south bound on I-684 by exit 5 a few weeks ago and saw a tractor trailer that was carrying what I assumed to be some sort of HAZMAT material considering the placard and tanker nature of the trailer that had a rear facing red strobe that flashed every second for however long the driver stepped on the brakes. Is this legal....I seems like a good idea to prevent a tanker from getting rear ended but it sounds like it was just as illegal as a rear facing red light on a volunteer firefighters POV. Also, how would an all blue lightbar be treated under NYS bluelight laws?

Another set back.....they first said this summer, then they said this December, then it was February and now it is April. I loved the show for the drama it associates with the fire house, I could really care less about the characters personal lives. I think it is the redirection of the show to more humanize and flaw the characters that has caused the show to go down hill in recent seasons. I am highly anticipating this new season, hopefully, they can bring what drew me to the show initially back to the show. The Leary Organization is one of only a few that first come to mind when I think of firefighter assistance. The others being the Firemans Fund, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, IAFF and IAFC. The Leary Firefighter Foundation has done great things for the men and women on the job in both Boston and New York. They have provided a fireboat to Boston, a high-rise simulator and mobile command center for New York and rescue boats in New Orleans, all in the eight years this foundation has been in existince.
