  1. http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=...&id=6782403 This was a DoD operation using the back-up presidents aircraft. Local officials were notified but not the general public. This looks classified as well considering it involves the presidents aircraft......
  2. Looks interesting. I like the new lines of stock trucks that are being developed, hopefully it will cause the price of fire apparatus to drop and we can use that extra money for staffing or training. This truck looks good and practical but I would want to see it in person before passing final judgement. At least this looks better than the velocity or contender PUC.
  3. I guess they are two different incidents....sorry for the confusion.
  4. Doesnt NYC have the MERV buses.....dont they transport several people at one time. http://www.fdnytrucks.com/files/html/specialunits/ems.htm first unit down
  5. excuse the two cents but it could be something from a movie or tv show. I am sure there is a logical and reasonable reason why this happened and it will show what an accident it is. Sounds like a one in a million chances/odds to me.
  6. As I am going through a similar process, the new guy is a firefighter when chiefs says jump and he already knows how high. Example, chief says hit the hydrant, already know how to and are proficient in hitting the hydrant; chief says throw the 25 footer, you know which one is 25 feet, where it goes and how to raise and secure it, foot it and avoid hazards. The new guy is not the new guy when he has his basic training and can do the same work the other guys can, only not as well.
  7. This truck is awesome. That pump panel and platform are interesting..... Great looking rig.
  8. Yes 100% X2. As a former sufferer of severe allergic reactions to bee stings I think that it would make sense to train 911 dispatchers on how inform and instruct a civilian samaritan on how to administer a simple auto-injector. It it not very difficult to use an epi-pen, in fact it is almost idiot proof. There are instructions in writing and diagrams on how to administer it. If a 16 year old camp counselor can administer an auto injector without any medical or first aid training as is the case currently, then I am fully confident that a trained dispatcher can instruct a passer by on the finer methods and uses of the medication. It is very easy to save lives with epi pens, partially due to the ease of use....if someone has an epi pen to use, then there is no reason they should not use it.
  9. I have to agree with that. While the general motoring public does not notice or look for these things, the trained or experienced eye can see these and other low-profile/visibility warning systems and tell that it is a cop and take the actions they feel are best. I can not tell you the number of times that I have been able to warn a driver of a car that am in of cops on the road by pointing out the LPR or the dash and grille lights. I once even saw this crown vic with 2 LPR on the roof and 2 on the trunk and let me tell you everyone saw it was a cop and everyone stayed the hell away from it. Can these be mounted in a car, because that would make them alot less obvious.
  10. 1950's (1947-1954) American LaFrance 700 Open Cab?
  11. Rest in Peace My thoughts are with the family, friends, DFPD/DFFD....
  12. http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayoflife/0...vers/index.html Here is an article I found on CNN.com about fire apparatus drivers. This article brings up some good points and mentions the LODD in Boston as well as issues with driver training and apparatus themselves. But is also funny and overall a good article to be presented to the public.
  13. A Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders has started a new program in Vermont to attract new members for the volunteer fire and EMS departments here. Here is the article: http://search.burlingtonfreepress.com/sp?a...amp;x=0&y=0 The volunteer ranks in Vermont, especially in the Burlington area are especially thin. Burlington has an all career fire department with 4-5 staffed engines and 2 ladders (One is a giant E-one/Aerochief Tower ladder quint that you has the most distinct Q I have ever heard) and a command officer 24/7. However, the communities of Shelburne and Winooksi are volunteer but are also huge in size but low in population so it is much harder for them to get many people. South Burlington is a combination department that runs a two man engine and an ALS bus 24/7 but is also assisted by volunteers.
  14. You can try watching it online.... www.fx.com or www.surfthechannel.com I watched the new episode four hours after it aired through www.surfthechannel.com but www.fx.com might have it
  15. Other than the choice in Ladder (Pierce) and Battalion Chiefs car (Tahoe with a streethawk rotator lightbar) the apparatus are usually pretty close to the real FDNY fleet. It kind of angers me that they do not use a real Seagrave ladder for Ladder 62, this is a show about NYC firemen, they should use NYC fire equipment to maintain accuracy.
  16. Interesting article about one member of what was going to be the new incoming but postponed class of FDNY firefighters and what it is like for him. I really feel bad for this guy.... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/nyregion...tml?ref=thecity
  17. Is there a way to automatically update the destination of a GPS so it reflects the location of a call. As in is there a way a GPS to automatically generate a route to a call without having to manually enter it so when the call get dispatched, once you get into the rig, there is already a route?
  18. Rest In Peace Sir....and thank you for your heroism and service. For those of you curious to who he is.....if you have seen the movie We Were Solders or read the book, he is Too Tall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Freeman
  19. Jesus Christ.....unreal Rest In Peace When is the violence going to stop, when is the killing going to come to an end. When will we as a people rise up and condemn the senseless violence that for too long has tortured our communities and killed too many innocent people. Too frequently we have read about these senseless acts in North Carolina, Alabama, California, New York and now Pittsburgh. The time to end the violence in our communities, societies and neighborhood is now, too many of our friends, relatives, associates and strangers have died and been killed. RANT OVER
  20. If they cast off alot of light thats one thing but they are so damn bright and blinding that I find them often distracting and disorienting which might not be the best thing for a driver approaching a responding apparatus oncoming considering all of the other bells, whistles and lights we attach to our rigs these days
  21. If there is one thing a Mount Kisco Parade is notorious for IMHO is whenever it occurs it shuts down the entire town and creates huge hassles for everyone trying to get around the area. With Main Street closed from 172 to the American Legion and 133 shut down, no parking in the entire town and some of the worst traffic imaginable the complaints of the shop owners is legitimate. That being said Mt Kisco parades are always among my favorite of the year and I have had the pleasure of marching in the Firemans parade for the past three years.
  22. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but according to NIMS the IC of a medical incident is the responder with the highest level of medical training. If that is the case then would I be mistaken for believing that the paramedics mentioned in the article would have the final say as to whether the patient goes to the ER or prison and not the cop since the paramedics would be in command. Just because a drunk driver is violation of the law does not mean they go to prison first and then go to the hospital.
  23. sweet looking ride..... What is its function, is it patrol or for a supervisor? Considering it has no prisoner barricade I would assume supervisor....
