Can some please elaborate on what the Rye Brook/ Rural Metro situation was? If there is no for-profit fire departments in New York then how come rural metro operates in Rochester, Syracuse and other NYS communities? http://www.ruralmetro.com/about_communitiesserved.asp Is it rural/metro EMS?

It is my opinion that the true, real spirit of Memorial Day Parades has been forgotten. We spend more time worrying about parades, vacation and BBQs than we do actually remembering the lives sacrificed in the name of our liberty, honor and freedom. This example of ineptness, negligence and liability only further proves how we have totally lost sight of what it has cost us as a nation to get to this point. Maybe next year instead of going to my parade and then enjoying the BBQ I am going to go to Arlington National Burial Ground and actually remember this year.

Dubai is both a city and an emirate. While Dubai is located in a desert, the vast, vast majority of its population lives in the city of Dubai. It is also, by far, the largest population center in the region. That being said, no there is not really anywhere, read desert, to land a helicopter but a pad on the back of the worlds largest ambulance is useless. Dubai is a city, if you cant land a helicopter most places in NYC then how can you do it in Dubai?

It says in the first post that they plan on having them in service at the end of June.

I believe that it is a Pierce Arrow cab and chassis with a Ranger body.

If an city maintenance worker had dropped a tool or debris on her car the city would have to pay, how is this any different.

There is a great article in Time Magazine about this plot and why you dont f*** with New York City if your a terrorist. They caught these guys because this cell, like most homegrown terror cells have no clue on how to actually make or obtain explosives, scout targets or plan an attack so they usually find some other person who can. Usually the person that they are trying to find is an informant... http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,...1900377,00.html

Now did they have any of the equipment (C4, Stingers etc) or was this just a plan/plot?

If the owner parked it in a fire lane or other unauthorized location then there should be no expectation of compensation. However, the car was described as legally parked so I would assume that there was reasonable expectation to believe that nothing could happen to the vehicle. If an apparatus had hit the car regardless of emergency operations or not then the city must pay, how is this any different?
