  1. Watched the first two episodes....kinda like Cops but with FD/EMS instead of police. Its ok.....kinda find it hard to believe that the Batt. Chief is 32 years old and drives a purple and white vintage low-rider when not at work.
  2. photos here http://www.fdnytrucks.com/files/html/other...Meadowlands.htm
  3. Agreed.....great video. We often throw around the word hero on this site but I think this maybe one case where it maybe deserved. This would have been the call of the year or lifetime for some firefighters....smoke and flames pushing from a OMD with persons trapped, sounds like every probies fantasy. Yet, a man, a stranger, with no experience, training or protection did something that those with the experience, training or protection did not do. This is not to say they too might have pulled the boy from the fire but the fact of the matter is this man did it first and quite possibly saved the childs life because of it. Some say we attach the label hero to emergency services personnel too easily but this man is not in the category, he is your average joe six-pack New Yorker who did what he thought was right. He is a hero in my book, just like the guy who saved the man on the subway from the train or kid from harrison who saved the person in Mass.
  4. Having spoke to the Director of the VT Department of Health (EMS), I know that the State of Vermont and all of its individual districts have been working on contingency plans in-case agencies are severely taxed due to a pandemic flu (H1N1 being todays main player). These plans include multiple additional mutual aid agreements regarding man power (most crews up here are volunteer but still have crews and shifts and man the rig 24/7), facilities and equipment. This would mean sharing EMTs, Medics, officers and drivers as well as quarters and ambulances if crews can not be organized or sustained. As well as specifically or centrally locating resources so that they may be utilized quickly, efficiently and with good judgement. In addition, if it does reach epidemic or pandemic level, then the EMS response system will be integrated into a triage system that could entail EMTs not transporting flu patients or not transporting to certain hospitals or entrances of hospitals. Furthermore it could entail EMTs and medics actually treating patients in ERs and other treatment and triage centers so that more important, valuable and scarce resources are not over burdened. This is all of course is under the medical direction of the local Trauma Center emergency medicine director.
  5. The preview alone made me much rather watch paint dry....at least that way I would just waste time, not loose brain cells too. I did not watch it....apparently my decision was correct.
  6. Great shots. I love the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, even during the crazy summer rush I still think they are some of the best national parks in the country. The beauty of the land and the degree of wild nature and preservation still in the parks is astonishing...they honestly are some the most beautiful places on the planet. When I was there last two or three years ago almost the entire Northern Section of Yellowstone in Montana was closed due to wildfires. PS. The photo third from the top is spectacular......I think it maybe the greatest shot I have seen of the Grand Tetons from a picture or real life I have ever seen.
  7. With that much money you would afford to pay 30 firefighters yearly salary at $62,000 a year If you count the other half of departments in Westchester County as having the same costs as the first half that would pay for 60 firefighters that could be a full 4 man engine crew for 15 departments or 30 two man engines or 20 three man engines.
  8. Speaking of Ferrara and FDNY....spy shots of the two new Collapse units that are beung built by Ferrara are up on their website http://www.ferrarafire.com/CustomerSupport...Production.html
  9. So what are they supposed to do to stop someone....shoot them?
  10. Honestly having a judge on call to write warrants and then train x number of officers to draw blood from the few DWI suspects that are not already in the hospital in police custody sounds like a giant waste of resources for the few DWIs you will actually catch and successful prosecute. Other than that enforcement night or no refusal night what not it sounds like a waste of tax payer money to me.
  11. "They would be hypocrites to bust EMS and Fireman's balls over them.... for the sake of Firefighter and Medic Saftey - police officers simply "look the other way"...and we thank and respect them for that." -x129k I think this sentence sums it up pretty well. It may not be right or legal but it is safer and smarter. Not all laws on the books today are fair or logical, technically you can still go to jail for having an affair but when was the last time anyone was arrested for that. To say that we cops need this light like this but you cant have it like that is moronic and as said above hypocritical.

  23. Sorry, Chris and everyone else but the issue regarding mask seal and religious facial hair has already been decided. In Potter v. District of Columbia, U.S. Court of Appeals, DC Circuit, No. 07-7163, 3/6/09, A DC firefighter successfully challenged a no beard policy because it was for religious observance. It is a violation of religious bias laws to force a firefighter to shave the beard. I am totally against these guys...they seem insane....there is no way you can successfully fight a modern working structure fire with that little brush/utility truck, simply not enough water and hose. How about PPE, I dont see any, does anyone else? Shut these guys down, integrate these guys into the pre-existing command and train and equip them in the fire district that way the chief of the fire district knows these guys are trained and equipped and in command.
