  1. Another one of Astorino's brilliant ideas I am sure. Hire your friends with giant raises, cut services and spend unnecessary money on going from white to white and blue stripes....all while Westchester remains the highest taxed county in the nation....
  2. Ask anyone that went down to the Gulf during Rita/Katrina, there is a huge difference between a single town being destroyed and the entire gulf coast needing assistance and a major metropolitan city under water. If you read the reports surfacing from Joplin, they have all the help they need, they said everyone with a stethoscope for 150 miles was in Joplin assisting. What they need is supplies and well wishes, not a full scale FEMA activaction... BTW the president offered FEMA assistance three days ago to Mo. and they have been on the ground since day 1.
  3. Nice photos. I really like Scarsdale's. The second caption definitely.
  4. Be Prepared....Watch the Walking Dead on AMC... (BTW: this was posted by the head of the CDC in response to actual questions by people/the public in response to the nuclear disaster in Japan)
  5. Clearly I am in the minority here but I happen to be a huge fan of due process. I don't care how many hoops you have to jump through, if the guy is actually committing a crime and you are any good at doing your job as a LEO then you should have no problem finding evidence for a warrant or to make an arrest. If you are grasping at straws or having trouble nailing the bad guy well then maybe you should try and get better at your job or maybe, just maybe they weren't doing anything illegal in the first place.... (Note this is a general statement not aimed at any one person , merely at the complaints, Oh well its hard for me to lock up the bad guys because its so damn hard to prove they are doing anything wrong)
  6. I guess I must be going crazy because when I read the decision I thought to myself how does change anything. A police officer sees a crime and pursues, during this pursuit they witness another crime and arrest that person too; that I what I read as what as being debated and I didn't think that was really any different than what occurs normally. What I saw as being interesting is the charges against the man fleeing were eventually dropped while these charges were pursued, Was this decision essentially deciding whether or not the evidence collected from the other apartment was fruit from the poisonous tree?
  7. Yes thanks for clearing that up...yes it is possible to go ON it for recreation, but never IN it. That being said, you end up getting wet when you are on the water, with the reservoir having as bad fecal coliform as it does, any of that water getting into you is going to be bad. The geese live on/near the golf course, so anything they excrete goes into the lake giving you the fecal bacteria then the golf course fertilizes to look all green and nice essentially giving those bacteria a shot of straight steroids...end result, a lake I wouldn't walk around or look at let alone recreate it. They are better off just not doing anything. It is Yonkers drinking water and it needs to be filtered before they can drink it.
  8. Read EPA 5.11: Monitoring and Assessment: Fecal Bacteria, then ask the county for the results of the fecal coliform analysis of this Reservoir dating back several years. You will then have your answer why I would never, ever, ever entertain the idea of recreating in any of the county streams, ponds, lakes, rivers or other bodies of water with limited volume or limited outflow, especially if it is near golf courses or birds/ducks/geese of any kind not owned and maintained by the State/City of NY. I take it he failed to notice the eutrophic algae blooms year to year....
  9. Rest in Peace Lt. Garcia. Watch over our brothers and your men wherever they be...
  10. I did a quick google search and all I got was one story of a guy who got minor burns after the application of pepper spray and a taser. http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=35392 http://www.theppsc.org/forums/archive/index.php?t-122.html There are several more stories of people covered in flammable liquids (gasoline in the few I saw) who burst into flames when the taser was applied. Just like any electrical powered device, it can produce a shock (In this case that is the point) and if it is of high enough energy and the conditions are right it can ignite vapor. http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9701967776/m/9961969509 http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/07/21/australia.taser.fire/index.html http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/07/21/australia.taser.fire/index.html I am sure our LEOs here can elaborate further.
  11. I personally do not like to see I/As from outside the immediate Tri-State area that only have an article attached. If it is a notable incident like a large fire or complicated rescue, MCI or has some other interesting factor thats one thing but the working barn or working structure fire from East Treestump are useless to me. I understand that some people like to see these incidents seeing as they are not from the Tri-State area but they should remember that this site for the majority of its life was focused on NYC and its Northern Suburbs. If someone is willing to give the radio updates in an incident alert from anywhere in the country that is a completely different story. The incident alerts that I focus the most on are the ones with times, updates, units etc. If it were possible, maybe the mods have life a space where I/As outside of NYC and its Northern Suburbs could go to be vetted and the ones found to be informative and acceptable get posted on the trending topics and the ones that dont get archived but are still viewable by the members of the this site if desired. I think one of the main reasons why a lot of people come it this site is for its I/As (i know we had trouble with BNN for a long time) but I think recently the overall quality of the I/As has gone down because too many nondescript, uninformative, poorly written, and too far from Westchester have been posted recently.
  12. Tradition is wearing your company patch with absolute pride; Progress is not letting that pride get in the way of effective, real service for those who ask for it. Tradition is doing your job; Progress is doing your job and more. Tradition is listening to the senior mans stories and learning from them; Progress experiencing your own and passing the lessons down about new dangers.

  15. Chicago Code and Chase had no where to go to begin with, no wonder they couldn't find an audience...
  16. The residents mentioned they did not like it sounding at night and they did not care for the numerous blasts indicating call type and location. Seems to me instead of shutting it down completely, if they say any call between 7a-7p gets the horn and only urgent/priority calls after 7p-7a would solve everyones problems.
  17. You read the article, look at what the chief said, the elderly gentleman walked in front of the rig, not behind it.
  18. Brewster man, 87, hit by fire engine on Public Safety Day http://www.lohud.com/article/20110509/NEWS04/105090351/Brewster-man-87-hit-by-fire-engine-Public-Safety-Day?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Frontpage|s "The driver stated that the engine was moving forward slowly and that she did not see Mr. Berenback as she struck him. It appears the victim walked in front of the engine," Johnson said. "No charges will be filed."
  19. Says above the photo above it, it is from a Tampa trip...
  20. I dont totally agree with releasing it to the public. While I do think some outside verification is required, I think this is some what of what separates "us" from "them"; if you remember during Somalia during the 90's and Iraq with the black water guards, they paraded the bodies of service members and contractors through the streets. To some degree, releasing a photo of Osama minus his left eye and front of his skull would be somewhat similar, and in a similar barbaric tone to the display of mutilated, captured American bodies. Maybe if select, respected members of the media were allowed to view the photos then report to the public about them, I feel this would be somewhat of a meeting halfway compromise. IMHO.
  21. My thoughts exactly. This is a 2 week old video but the link of FFcloseclass.com said it was a spare or out of service or something to that degree. I learned always keep the extinguishers on the rig at least even when its OOS because you never know when the engine will over heat and you need to use a case of water to cool the engine of $350,000 piece of apparatus on the side of 684. Pretty sad to lose an entire engine because someone took the extinguishers off the rig.
