If you have good BLS, then 9/10 you don't need ALS, thats a given...however for the 1/10 call that requires a medic, the medic, at least in my experience, has a dozen other things they need to do at the ALS level, therefore they usually require a BLS attendant to get vitals, bag the patient, assist in a head to toe etc. Unless its a boring day or a particularly high risk/need patient, whenever the 45-Medic rides, we both are sweating by the end of the call with the amount of work we had to do in the back of the rig. Very rarely if ever do we leave the fly car at the scene, if anything an attendant or chief will drive the fly car to the ER so that both the medic and the EMT can continue patient care and the medic can go back into service as soon as their PCR is written or a call for the 45-Medics drops. This does work a lot better however when the 45-medic-3 car actually starts once you park it at the ED, (long story).

In 6 years I have never had to wait longer than a minute or two for a 45-Medic and more than half the time they beat me there. Not once have I had a Mutual Aid medic called to a single call I have been on nor have I heard of many calls requiring mutual aid medics unless the call is in a far out part of their district or involving multiple serious injuries. Unless I am missing something, 9 days out of 10 it seems that 3 medics can handle the volume, especially when patient care can transfered to competent BLS staff when no ALS is required, as it usually is not.

I would have just handed it right back to the man and said "nope, doesn't look like a mine to me." Just kidding, looks like a good job done by all, glad everyone went home safe. So was it live?

Let it snow early and let it snow often, I just dropped off my skis for a major tune-up and the Vermont backcountry is looking better than ever.

There are several locations in Westchester that have "exotic" animals. The Steinhart Property on Bedford Hills/Katonah/Mt. Kisco has several zebras, giraffes and other non-native species. There are additionally alpaca, emu and goat farms in No. West.

SMRS is a part of Colchester Center Volunteer Fire Department (CCVFD), their command staff, at least on the fire side is a much more entrenched, hierarchical command staff and officers. As for their rescue department, their Paramedics are paid (on-call,when needed) as is some of their staffing is former members and etc. As for UVM, while they cover the majority of their operations with students, there are reasons regarding staffing of crew chiefs and drivers why other members of outside organizations have had to run with them in the past. All that said, it is amazing what these kids are able to handle. UVM handles an extremely large number of calls as year as does SMRS. I truly do enjoy practicing EMS in this corner of Vermont. Standards are extremely high and so is this level of professionalism and dedication of all members both paid and volunteer. Practicing is most definitely different than practicing back in New York. DWC295, the NICU truck was sold to Vermont State Childrens Hospital to be used as their NICU transport rig. It is operated by FACT if I remember correctly. I will see if I can get a picture, it is frequently at FAHC.

He is correct that UVM and St. Mikes are both student run EMS organizations. However UVM is closer to 90% student run and St. Mikes closer to 75%.

Yes they were. As will the vast majority of any photos I add to this thread for two reasons. 1. FAHC is 3 blocks away from my apartment 2. Every patient but one I have ever transported up here has been transported to FAHC. Look for more additions to this thread as time progresses. Only recently have I realized how many rigs I have had a chance to shoot but haven't. I might also add some fire apparatus as well if I can get some photos.

I am curious to know what the "Stay Bitter Or Get Bettter!!" statement at the top of the page means and if whomever posted it noticed that "Bettter" was misspelled due to an extra t?

The reason why, if you had read the forum rules/regulations/guidelines for I/A postings, is that they need to be notable incidents. While I am sure that it is a huge deal that your friend was involved in an accident. It is simply useless and boring to post an I/A for every MVA that occurs in the county and surrounding areas. If every MVA or non-notable call had an I/A, it would clog up the forum, decrease views on the notable I/As and frankly would be extremely boring. No one on here want to read about East Treestump FD/EMS's 2 car MVA with minor injuries...add a prolonged extrication, serious injuries, multiple injuries, mutual aid use or otherwise unique circumstances, and maybe, just maybe it is I/A worth, but even then you would be surprised the mundane stuff that gets posted here.

Maybe not what you are thinking of but St. Michael's College in Colchester, VT has a student run Fire/EMS department that runs about 2,500 runs a year EMS/500 Fire

I thought that Norwalk bought this rig?

Flu came early this year...I should know, two weeks ago I fell ill with the flu and felt like I got broadsided by a bus. Do everyone a favor and get the shot, unfortunately it is not available yet in Vermont...

Looks like someone has been watching a little too much "Royal Pains". I can't wait until a patient vomits, has a bleed or worse on the surround sound, flat screen, 300 threat count sheets, plush interior or multi-mode lighting... How do I get this job hahaha?

Im not sure what you mean acquired by one of the local parks but from what I understand the unit being produced by Gowans Knight is to replace PRFD R-22. IIRC, the current R-22 was donated by the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.

NYS is considering letting your 85 year old grandmother renew her license without a vision test, what makes us think they have the prudence to mandate something like a new VTL laws review.

So WTF is it and what does it do? Looks to me like a mobile cell/radio tower. I wish the county had a "come take a look at all of our toys day" one day...

I wanna know who the lucky SOB is who gets to train on Surface-to-Air Missiles down at Floyd Bennett Field and how I get his job. Either that or NYPD just added some fighter jets to its aviation fleet. All kidding aside, I have no idea what the capabilities are or anything like that but I would be hard pressed to believe that there are too many options for bringing down a jetliner over the 5 boros.
