I was asking about us videotaping them. Thus the violation.
-
Well whoever they are is committing a HIPAA violation from what I am told. I asked two different services in two different states I was with if it was possible to add that feature to our ambulance spec. and I was told both times that it was a violation and not allowed. I have been filmed and photo graphed many times while on scene and I do not feel that it affects my performance. It is just one more thing to ignore when treating a patient or conducting operations. I focus on my job, not on the distractions. While I have never had someone try to photograph or film their treatment in the back of the ambulance, so long as it does not interfere with my treatment and assessment, I have no problem with it. However, once it gets in my way, it will go away for good. I watched a video where a man had a parachute malfunction at 2,500ft, had a hard landing and was paralyzed from the arms down. During his entire fall and treatment in the ambulance his iPhone was recording. While the video of the treatment by first response and emergency services is not available, it should bring to light that this might be happening without you even knowing it. I know a lot of skiers will have a camera strapped, bolted or otherwise attached to the gear in someway.

FF/Paramedic and Katonah FD LT Jeff Waful ran circles around some guys during FFII down at WCFTC 2 years ago. And other than maybe his turnout gear, he used the same SCBA and everything as everyone else.

I agree completely, sometimes we have to take the people or the humanity out of the job for the sake our own sanity. This piece should remind us that our patient regardless of their situation is a real person who is probably scared to a degree they have never experienced fear before. Would I have done the same thing and crawled under the bus? Without a doubt. However I might have at least ensured it was parked with the e-brake and off. Would I have second guessed myself and my decision as they were further stabilized and extricating the patient? Maybe, hopefully I would be helping to assess and package her throughout this. Would I get my @$$ chewed out by the OIC or my C/O? You bet. Its their job to make sure everything runs smoothly. However when push comes to shove, we all engage in activities in this profession that are very dangerous, we can not control the risks but we can certainly do our best to mitigate them while still maintaining the best service possible. I think all of us here can agree that while this is "feel good" piece, we all have or will be faced with a situation very similar to this one.

Ummm.....No. My safety, my crews safety, safety of the victim, safety of bystanders. I implore you to reconsider that statement. I agree totally.

I knew what you were saying, I just wanted to highlight what you said and add on to it slightly. I am sorry for the mix-up.

I think people are mistaken in what Time is actually doing here. They are not anointing someone BEST person of the year, they are anointing the most INFLUENTIAL. Frankly, I think it hard to argue that protest movements have been very influential here in America as well as all corners of the Earth. This year protest movements have toppled regimes, changed national dialogs and liberated populations otherwise oppressed or subjugated. In almost 100 countries, from the squares of the Middle East to the streets of our very cities this year has been defined and influenced by protest movements. Whether you agree with the message is not being discussed, what is being discussed is how influential these people were on the year as a whole. Time, in whatever wisdom you deem they have, has decided that the influence of protest movements was too great to ignore. Honestly, when since the 1960's have so many people in this country, let alone the World been protesting something, anything to this extent (whether they are Tea-Bagging or Occupying or Animal Liberation or Environmental Activists or seeking Democracy).

Recert., if not for you then for your patients and crew. Just because the state gives you the card doesn't mean you know the material and can actually perform on demand (im not saying you wont be able to, but its good to have a certain level of comfort and familiarity). Combine that with the fact that protocols, equipment and techniques can change from year to year (CPR anyone) I would think it would be best to start in a more encompassing program initially than limiting yourself to only challenging the exam. Im sure you, your crew and your patient will feel a lot more confident knowing you sat for the entire refresher course as opposed to spending a Sunday morning moving between stations.

Yes it does have a CNS just like any other vertebrate. And since when is a reptile not an animal? I do agree however that regardless of whether or not you thought it was dangerous you should have dispatched it accordingly, or at least call an Animal Control Officer. Its not worth risking your life or your families having a live rattlesnake near your house regardless of whether it is trapped or not.
