VSP does not own any aviation equipment but with the air national guard base in South Burlington/Essex/Colchester full of combat ready UH-60 Blackhawks only a few minutes away from one specialized team depots at the Williston barracks it really does not matter. Additionally, Albany and the NYSP Aviation is only miles away from many parts of Southern Vermont, the lack of aviation is rarely a hindrance. On more than one occasion I have heard VSP conducting an area search for perps near farms or victims in the water or in the mountains using VTANG Blackhawks.

Anyone in emotional shock or having an acute stress reaction should be treated by EMS and observed by ED staff. I know some people will disagree with me, but I do not believe that a schools CISD team is prepared to deal with individuals in a catatonic state or a stupor that is associated with traumatic events like this one. If an individual having an ASR is not able to process information properly and safely, they may not be in a state where I would feel comfortable with them or me signing an RMA form. If nothing for no other reason, allowing EMS treatment will provide a continuity of care to the patient in an attempt to rebuild a social safety net and allow the individual to return to a new normal. After having treatmented and transported victims from a school accident involving fatalities, the school and the parents were appreciative of the treatment that was provided by EMS/First Response. Obviously we treated those who were injured worst first, but we also ensured that all parties received at least some form of continuous initial care. It speaks volumes when we are able to care for everyone and not just those physically injured. One of the most important lessons I have learned as a provider is the power and importance of PFA (psychological first aid).

Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the assumption that FDNY rigs were 8 years front line, 3 years as a spare, 2 years as a reserve then sold for scrap.

In searching the fireengineering.com, I found this interesting video with FDNY Lt. Mike Wilbur on the positioning of aerial and tower ladders. Featured in the video was BHFD TL57 and YHFD L51. The video was filled at the Bedford Town Courthouse. I remember when I joined that the public loved all emergency service workers and no cops or firefighters were facing layoffs. Oh how the times have changed.

1. Its not actually going to be looking for forest fires, its just going to be for show like the one in Kent 2. It is mostly going to being paid for by the Friends of Ward Pound Ridge with little public money

The town I work for is a lot like Somers. Small, bedroom community with several senior residential communities and extended care facilities. I have seen first hand how even the best and most expensive companies and facilities fail to monitor and provide adequate safety and care for those in their care. I have seen conditions that would have a healthy adult crippled not being called in until shift change the next day. I would never place anyone I cared for in any of these facilities no matter how long they/I shall live.

I agree completely. I don't care how famous you are, I will not fly a flag at half staff for you. Now if you lay your life down for god and country then good sir, I will throw you a parade 10 miles long. If this is indeed true, shame on Gov. Christie...showing once again his disrespect for military, emergency and public services providers... Vermont State Police response falls short, rescuers charge http://vtdigger.org/2012/02/12/when-a-hike-in-vermont-goes-awry-no-one-may-come-to-the-rescue/ Shortly after the new year, a 19 year old hiker was found dead after being reported missing the day before. This incident occurred in a region where the State Police (VSP) have primary jurisdiction. Due to the miscommunication, the report of a missing hiker was not passed up the chain of command effectively. Additionally, further complicating the matter are Vermont's AHJs/Laws and VSP procedures. This article is a pretty good look at the convoluted world of back-country, wildland and other remote location search and rescue organization from the federal to the state and local level.

my mistake. Regardless, they are certainly not E-Ones or Pierce.

How about this for plain english..."Pleasntville Heavy Rescue 1 (R-47), Responding" or "Mt. Kisco Heavy Rescue 1 (R-14), Responding" or "Mt. Kisco Light Rescue 2 (R-31) Responding." Tower 1, 2, 3 etc; Ladder 1, 2, 3 etc; Engine 1, 2, 3 etc Sure you are on the air for a second or two longer, but at least this way everyone knows exactly who and what is coming, none of this "is that XYZ's tanker or ABC's tanker that called responding?" or "was that unit a ladder or a tower?". Thoughts?
