Date: 08-01-06 Time: appx 0030 hrs Location: Brant Lake General Store, State Route 8 / Horicon Ave, Brant Lake NY 12815 Frequency: Warren County Units Operating: Horicon FD, Hauge FD, Pottersville FD, Lake George FD, Chestertown FD, Bolton FD, Minerva FD, Schroon Lake FD, NYS Fire K9, Warren County SO Description Of Incident: Original dispatch of fully involved structure with 5 subjects trapped in second floor apartment over store. Store was located 2 doors down from the Horicon firehouse. Multiple ladder trucks called in mutual aid, all subjects made it out of the building without injuries, bulding was appx 100 year old general store. Fire was knocked down early morning, as of 0930 it was still smoldering, Pictures to follow. (This store was known as Daby's General Store up to last year)

Where I work there are big signs on the wall that say: *Take the call *Dispatch the proper service (Police; Fire; Ambulance) *Document *Notification to a supervisr when appropriate I have to send a car to everything, regardless of how minor or rediculous it may be.

What about all of the Ambulances, Chiefs Cars, Police Cars, Brush Trucks, And utility trucks that have either a brush guard or push guard on them??????? I have one on my s-10 blazer and I love it saved my Front end from damage a few times, Its allot easier to repaint a brush guard then the frond end of the truck, And besides that It provides that much more space to mount lights! All kidding aside this law is another ridiculous one for ny.

Mr. Johnvv In My department there are 3 classifications for firefighters Interior = Self-explanitory Exterior = Can participate in any aspect of firefighitng that dose not involve donning an airpack Administrative = Is not allowed to do anything physical This of course is a volunteer department, I would think that in a paid department there would be no other classification other than interior, or I would assume that you would be out of a job. My job, though not firefighting but emergency services related, requires its employees to be clean shaved and presentable

There is a member of my department that is classifed as an exterior FF solely because he dose'nt want to shave his beard to pass the fit test.

What I mean by voice is in the event of a "Major Emergency" (ie: mass power failure due to a storm, indian point, things like that) making a voice announcement. For everyday use we would just send siren tones over it for alarms. I have done some reaserch on the whelen system. But the question I asked was not who manufactures the system. Basicly I'm looking for a someone that has had first hand experience with this system and some feedback on it. If there is anyone out there then please PM me. I would love to question you to death and if possible view how the system is set up and operated.

I have a new project to work on that has been given to me by my chief. The project entails replacement of the old mechanical house siren with a new PA speaker system that will provide the siren tones and a voice alert system for our community. The questions I have for all of you out ther in cyberland are.... 1) Dose anyboy have a system like this in the area? 2) How do you like it? 3) How much? 4) Any dealers in the area? I know of a couple departments that have the siren system but i'm unsure of the voice capabilitys. Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!

CARMEL ONLY RESPONDS AT THE REQUEST OF THE HELICOPTER CREW OR IF THE HELICOPTER HAS TO LAND ANYWHERE ON THE GROUNDS BESIDES THE HELIPAD...AND WE ALSO NEVER STRECH A LINE JUST STANDBY UNTIL THE HELICOPTER IS ON THE GROUND THEN LEAVES AGAIN!!

I normally dont get involved in these arguments.....but before somebody created the words RIT or FAST....brother firefighters were rescued by other firefighters...it is something that has been done for a long time before fancy names and equipment were put to the task....now i am all for dedicated fast or rit's...but the fact is that most downed firefighters are rescued by their original crew....again dedicated teams are needed and should be in place....before i get everyones irate responses i am a member of a fast and we get called fairly frequently....but facts are facts.....go look at some of the recent studies done on the effectivness of rit's ...not all its cracked up to be

Try Circut City, They do an OK job and its a little cheaper than going to a independent store. Don't go to Best Buy, I've seen them do some pretty shotty work.
