Its a sad day that this topic is even being discussed, but with these economic times, its a reality. As a union officer,I am personally in the middle of such possible layoff negotiations. In our municiple union, part time employees would be first to go followed by last hired no matter your title or pay scale. We are in a hiring freeze and have postions open on paper. We are hoping that instead of losing employees we will just not replace them as they retire until the economy rebounds. It is a little different than emergency services where we can survive with a smaller crew and not impact the publics safety. I wish everyone luck and hopefully the budgets can be balanced without any loss of employees.

When we were shopping for a new truck for our shop we looked at both extended (half door) and 4 door cabs.We went for the half doors and are pleased with it.I am just wondering why they are going to 4 door cabs.Is there a need for all the extra room? Just someone on the outside asking.

That should have a much longer wheelbase. Not sure how this will workout.

I think Ossining is looking for a tl but that is another dept that could be interested if they wanted a stick.

Its a great truck and well worth the money. Mt Vernon and Pleasantville should take a good look at it.

Does anyone have pics of u95 or r54? Also what is the pickup with the liftgate designated as?

Its about damn time. This process has taken way too much time. I know about the rig they are hoping to get and it should be great.i

I think they look horrible. I wish I could keep the white ones.

Does anyone know if Ferrara is still using Smeal aerials? Last time I was in Nebraska there were Ferrara chassis waiting for their aerials to be built and installed. Just wondering if they are building their own now.

I saw one briefly yesterday and it looked like they have a small cubby hole to the rear box, no walk through.

I thought it was a bigger dept. With these tough times I wish all that might be affected good luck.

No spare

Both ladders are operated by volunteers and neither has a pump. Eng 62 should have been kept as a spare until a new career rig was purchased. Just my 2 cents. We have 7 engines why 1 couldn't be tempoarily used is not my decision.

Are the city and union about to start negotiating on a new contract? It seems like a bargaining chip for the city.

I know you have been giving alot of long hard hours towards this for a long time. With your truck background, we all know the great truck that is going to be built. Due to my injury, I havent been around to hear the latest news about the new rig. As part of the committe for L31, I know first hand about the kind of delays that are happening to youn from the village. You guys are well overdue for this, but the end is near. Just be happy that this wont be another GOOD HUMOR truck!

Ang, Whats the status of the ordering process for the new 58? Was it ever bid out or approved?

At 10 am this morning I saw a flatbed tractor trailer carrying the aerial dection of L2 heading toward the Bronx on the Throgs Neck bridge. Looks like it might be back in service at some point.

In my opinion if they werent drinking, they were doing nothing wrong. If the city wants them to enter a crowded bar at 2am to do an inspection, they are subject to this kind of behavior. Posing for a picture shouldnt be reprimanded.

Seth, New England Fire is also the local Smeal dealer.

From the picture it looks like it is in decent shape.

Looks like the beginnings of an FDNY rig. If you go down further you see a Silver Lake rig. Is this a different Dept from West Harrison or is there actuallly a dept called Silver Lake?
-
I would sat that they are more centrally located. They are close to all the major arteries. They can be to I95 or the TZ bridge in minutes (with no traffic of coarse). Most of the parkways are just minutes away.

Thanks for all the info.
