Saw it this morning at the kick off of the Police Unity Tour in NYC and it looks great! Nice job and a fitting first ceremony to be a part of!!!

I don't live in Rye Brook, but this would seriously bother me: (From Journal News) "... the village will save $800,000 next year through eliminating base salaries totaling $600,000, as well as associated benefits, overtime and equipment costs, officials said." So for eight full time positions, including benefits and other perks Port Chester is saving $800k by eliminating these positions. "Rye Brook has paid Port Chester just under $1 million a year to staff the Rye Brook firehouse for a 12-hour overnight shift." Okay, I'm not a mathematician, but Rye Brook has been paying Port Chester a million bucks for one half time position and Port Chester has been paying less than a million bucks for eight full-time positions. So the Rye Brook contract pays for the entire paid Port Chester staff annually, but they still can't keep them on? Port Chester has made an annual profit of $200k thanks to Rye Brook! Anyone else see something wrong here? Like I said in the first sentence, I don't live in Rye Brook, but if I were mayor, now that the contract has been breached I'd be doing the math that Port Chester has now supplied and sue going back to the original date of contract for the total amount they overpaid for the half-time position they were given. There is obvious fraud here on many levels. Port Chester is going to end up paying so much more on this one in the end...

Having been a cop down south and in NY, I have to say unions. Texas and most states down south do not have the right to collective bargaining and union protection. You have no civil service protection and if they don't like you anymore you're gone! They can't fire you based on race, religion etc... because those are your FLSA rights, but they can fire you because you've underperformed on the job. Right to work states are a very different animal and coming from one to a state with unions it's very nice to say the least. Unions afford you many, many more rights than a job down south. They have fought for so many years to protect their members from a pissed off boss who just wants to fire you. Remember these points if you're up here and frustrated with the hiring processes of the northeast. If you move south to better yourself you're also losing that one protection which is priceless when you need your delegate. I'm lucky to have never had to deal with being administratively messed with, but raises are few and far between in right to work states. They only come whenever your local government decides to give you one, not when your union has negotiated one for you. I hope this helps the topic a little.

First: Hastings to Pelham on Mapquest/Google etc... is approx 11 miles, so stop blowing up the numbers to serve whatever your cause is. Second: You're posing as a career firefighter somewhere, but drive to work everyday on the Hutch and see this vehicle everyday. I don't know many firefighters who go to work everyday, but maybe you're different... Third: Is this chiefs vehicle parked on the side of the Hutch, because your profile shows that you work in New Haven, CT. So, while you go to work everyday in New Haven, CT you exit the Hutch in Pelham/Mount Vernon to look around and then get back on northbound I guess... Good bagel and coffee shop around there I guess?! I question your integrity and your cause. Good luck with your posts.

I think Paul Feiner should be very careful with this issue. He is in a major financial dilemna and as a Hastings homeowner I'd rather see his government go versus county government. I pay pretty high taxes to the Town of Greenburgh and can't be on their police list, can't go to their pools, but can give them a lot of money... Yes, they have a collecting agreement with the villages etc..., but I have to believe we could definitely do without them!

Stay in school and then join the military as an officer. A DCman in the Navy doesn't do a lot of firefighting. They get stuck with a lot of crap jobs, so beware. If you have to choose, as a former Navy guy, go Coast Guard or Air Force. The Air Force and Marines have an amazing Crash/Fire and Rescue unit. The training is great also. School will always prevail, b/c when it comes time for promotions many jobs want a degree now. Good luck!

The cop in one photo is taping off the scene. He's way off judging by the visible skids and rubs on the roadway. He needs to push it out at least beyond the parked ambulance and another 40 or 50 feet.

You are 100% correct. I taught at the police academy in the city for a few years. We used to laugh in the first couple of weeks in the academy about how many recruits we would lose b/c of drug test results, criminal history stuff and background investigations. One day they were there, the next day they were gone. Always amused, never surprised!

I'm not sure why it's a breakdown, but you must not be around very long. There are certainly some people who want to volunteer who shouldn't be brought into any department. How are you in law enforcement at such a young age? I know NYS minimum age is 21 years old...

Seems pretty dangerous to me. Every month there's an article in the Daily News etc... about RMP's being fired at in Brooklyn or wherever. Maybe this means PD RMP's are changing also. Black and white's are always nicer! Probably never going to happen though...

"Just to point out a safety concern. In this picture it would have been a better use of FF's if one of the five that was 'packing up' helped the tiller man raise the 24. It would of made the raise safer if there were 2 sets of eyes looking for hazards. The ladder looks to be within 2-3 feet of the structures' electrical service line. A slip in footing or raising the ladder could have ruined the day. When ever I touched a ladder and still to this day when a grab a step ladder, I can hear NRFD's D.C. Kelly saying "look up before you put up". He never let us forget it and I haven't." Please tell me the above quote is a joke. Looks to me he knows what he is doing and did an excellent job! Later pics show ladders everywhere, but he was unsafe?! Come on...
