Sorry to report the City of Mount Vernon has a idiot for a Mayor.
Mayor Ernest Davis dismissed Thomas’ criticisms, saying the Buildings Department has four inspectors who walk through structures on an as-needed basis. He said the department has never had a routine inspection program.
Asked if the Fire Department is adequately staffed, he said, “Absolutely.”
Two firefighters staffing the first due engine is a disaster in the making.

There are no non-hospital based Paramedic providers in New Jersey. I've heard MONOC was going to be a bid in but I don't think MONOC has the juice to take Jersey City on and would love to see their bid package (good luck seeing that).

30 minutes for a Priority 5 call as it was first triaged with no available buses in the system and calls waiting is not long. The heat wave is taxing the system. Quinn states that there should be more units out there to handle the call volume and that the system was not prepared. This is the same woman that voted to cut the FDNY & EMS budget and reduce the unit count. I guess it was just lip service until those cuts hit home. They also could have picked this young lady up and put her in the air conditioned SUV that she had waiting and I am sure running to ensure it was kept cool instead of "dragging" her under a tent to keep her cool.

"Quinn was speaking before cameras about the reopening of the controversial E. 91st St. marine transfer station when the 17-year-old girl suddenly dropped to the ground in front of the crowd shortly before noon, witnesses said.
The speaker ran over to the teen, who may have collapsed because of the heat, and began rubbing her arms as a member of Quinn's detail — an NYPD cop who is a trained EMT — began rendering aid to the girl.
"It's going to be okay," Quinn told the girl as another bystander called 911.
They quickly pulled the girl into the shade under a tent as Quinn's security guard grabbed an oxygen tank to help the young woman breathe.
But Quinn finally lost her patience after waiting about 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive and dialed NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly for help.
"We were trying to get through to [FDNY Commissioner] Sal Cassano, and I was unable to get connected," Quinn said."

Interesting, injured woman faints and is conscious and being treat by "trained personnel" (a police officer who is also an EMT). Triaged as it should and held for higher priority calls due to a 25% spike in call volume. But because it is the Speakers intern there is "outrage " because it should have been a "priority 1" call. Maybe they should hold the arrest, MI, stroke or true unconscious for her intern. This is the same Speaker that would have called for a City Council investigation if an MOS family's call was bumped up. I guess it is justified when you call the Police Commissioners private cell and pull strings to get your low priority call bumped up to a high priority "unconscious" even though the woman was conscious. Maybe the speaker and her intern should have followed her own instructions that she has been handing out since the heat wave started - stay hydrated, in the shade when possible and wear light colored, loose fitting clothing.

I would call that a "winshield size up" I would usually give a 360 degree size up even on EMS responses because while the dispatcher might not care, others listening might.
  7. x635 liked a post in a topic by NJMedic in Difference Between "Working Fire" and "Structure Fire"
I my area a "working fire" would indicate just that, didn't matter if it was a car, house, strip mall, dumspter (don't laugh, a 40 cubic yard dumpster was one of the hardest fires I ever fought), high rise. To me a sructure fire would mean a working fire in a my area would typically mean a 2.5 story wood frame structure. Any thing other then a 2.5 wfd would usually be get a description added...."a working fire on the 24 story of a concreate multi family dwelling". There really is no standard radio standard around here but people usually get the point across.

Ever hear of the expression “where there is smoke there’s …………! I think you have reason to worry. At best I would try to have a sit down and ask the chief and 2nd Assistant chief and see if they are willing to disclose what they feel the problems are and what dangers they foresee if you take the position.

We have two large cemtaries in our area the cater to the Jewish faith, Floral Park and Washington. From Wikipedia; A Jewish cemetery in South Brunswick Township, New Jersey, where many prominent Hassidic Rabbis are buried, including Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam and Rabbi Naftali Halberstam of Bobov, Rabbi Samuel Hirsch Horowitz of Spinka, Rabbi Moses Josef Rubin of Cimpulung and Rabbi Yitzchok Issac Langner the Stretiner Rebbe of New York City. The cemetery contains many holocaust survivors including Gisella (Roth) Green, Irving (Israel) Green, Ruchma Lesser & sister Rivka Gutter, and many others from Poland, Hungary and Germany. One of the many societies represented is the first wodzislaw society.
Across the street from the Floral Park Cemetery is the Washington Cemetery. Washington Cemetery is a separate cemetery from the Floral Park Cemetery, but both are under the same management. Contrary to popular belief, many of the prominent Rabbis said to be buried in Floral Park Cemetery are actually buried in Washington Cemetery. Leiby Kletzky, 8, who was murdered and dismembered in Brooklyn was also buried here.

A important burial here brings out several thousand of people and burias take place 24 hours a day in keeping wit Jewish load. Hatzolahs usually send several ambulances to provide EMS. Little to no woman are involved or attend the burial and there are certainly no woman involved in Hatzolah. Any woman on our units are given the stink eye.
Remember the old Hebrew National Hot Dog commericals that ended "we answered to a higher authority" . Same thing can be said of Hatzolah

I was at this job. PAFD typically puts out 2 engines, a ladder, a rescue (NYPD ESU style) and a chief on first alarms. I'm not sure what their second alarm staffing is but a another engine and a ladder were closes in. Guys I spoke to describe the original fire building on fire from the side walk to the peak of the roof when they arrived. Ballon construction and biulding sperate of 2 feet at most help with the firsr spread help. Apparently their were hydrant issues when they arrived but that type of problem is not new to Perth Amboy. I wasn't too surprised with the exent of fire spread given the type of contraction. 2.5 100 year old wood balloon frame construction built feet from each other. This video from NBC News is retty good at showing condition up on arrival.

Basically it went to nine alarms pretty quickly. Even companies on SI were getting calls of smoke in the area. I'll try to post some photos later tonight.
