  2. Really don't know much about Austin Travis County EMS but they do seem to have their act together. I know everyplace has their problems but any clue how the staff like it there?
  3. I'm betting it wasn't sprinkled. I red the buildng was under renovation and was wrapped with a scafolding so I'm also guessing that allowed the fire to auto communication to the higher floors. The pictures actaully remind me of the One Merdian Plaze fire in Philadelphia back in 1991.
  4. The Court delayed the layoffs for both PD as well as FD. Newark is a complete mess. http://photos.nj.com/star-ledger/2010/11/ex1113stay_2.html
  5. Laughing?? Thats a everyday event in my area
  6. PennSTAR out of Phildelphia (Hospital of the University of Pennslyvania Flight Program) flies an Augusta.
  7. Perhaps they knew they would not have the resources in town to handle other emergencies if they send a truck out on mutual aid. I tend to doubt it but that would be avalid excuse in my eyes
  8. Funny, in NJ we're going the other way. Diminsh the role of the multi mission NJSP medevac program and let the for profits in.
  9. http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/09/newarks_fire_chief_of_40_years.html “I’m worried about the safety of the citizens and the firefighters. We’re trying to do more with less, but we’re beyond that,” Lalor said. “I don’t want anybody hurt or killed on my watch, and I feel that the reduction in manpower could have an effect on some safety issues.”
  10. The first rule of mutual aid is to cover your area first. There is no easy solution for Lawrence. Basically they are screwed. Yoy might see the surrounding towns start charging Lawrence to respond.
  11. Channel 4's and the Daily News web sites have photos. Look like it was a very hard landing, one of the main rotor blades was snapped in half, front windshields cracked, looks like the roof was buckled. NY Post reports that it ran out of fuel. I tend to doubt that story, I hope aviation was a little slicker then that. Won't be back in the air anytime soon. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/NYPD-Helicopter-Crashes-into-Jamaica-Bay-103559974.html http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/09/22/2010-09-22_nypd_helicopter_makes_hard_emergency_landing_in_brooklyn_cause_unclear.html#ixzz10IZcXl8Z
  12. I took my 10 year old son around 10:45 Saturday night to Liberty State Park. When I parked the car and saw the lights I noticed something very different. Reminded me of the particles of dust you see when you shine a very bright flashlight except the objects floating in the Lights seemed to have a sense of direction. I thought this was very odd, I had never seen this before. I wanted to go over to Manhattan to see them from the base but when I go to to the Turnpike entrance the lights we off. I thought to my self they had changed the hours and did not leave them on all night. Last night the News reported that the lights were shut off for an hour because what I saw were birds drawn to the lights. Something different.
  13. You can't do any better then Liberty State Park. Shouldn't be too far out of the way from Rockland County. I will be there
  14. Nothing like a thread on emergency lighting to get this board rockin.
  15. He was also days away from returned to FDNY Rescue 1 and formly a member of Rescue 1. Did FDNY run out of cassions for the funeral or for some reason he was not afforded a FDNY funeral?
  16. I received a set of USAR gear (Morning Pride) as part of a state-wide EMS Special Operations Group here in NJ. Basically the same specs as FDNY EMS, although in a different color. That gear was extended to regular field providers as part of our UASI funding. IIRC all the voluntary hospitals that particpate in the NYCEMS system are required to provide their members with FDNY spec'ed gear. I like the idea that agencies that want to play must provide safety gear, the stick and carrot approach. My gear cost $1,400 minue the boots, helmet, and APR. Unfortunetly I don't see alot of EMS only agencies laying out that type of money. The photo is an example of what is provided. (BTW that is not me in the photo)
  17. Port Authority 'Moose Boats' grounded, in need of repairs - airport perimeters left unpatrolled The Port Authority spent nearly $1 million in Homeland Security money on two high-tech boats that are docked after a mind-boggling series of breakdowns and mishaps. The 37-foot aluminum jet catamarans were supposed to patrol 9 miles of shoreline surrounding Kennedy and LaGuardia airports and assist in rescues. The so-called "Moose Boats" have been out of service, or just plain unused, for most of the last three years, sources told the Daily News. 18. Press release from Moose Boats, apparently the US Park Police, NY Field Office has one too. PANYNJ Police: http://mooseboats.com/pdf/PANYNJ_delivery_press_release.pdf US Park Police: http://mooseboats.com/pdf/US-Park-Police-Final.pdf
  19. Anyone come across a new delivery to WCDES called the Scene Support Unit? See photo.
  20. Anyone know who the good to guy is at DES about this truck?
  21. It is the same system used by DMAT but DMAT is a federal asset and I doubt a county would be buying the federal government equipment. But stranger things have happended.
  22. Western Shelter makes the "tent" systems for DMAT, Federal USAR (and many of the State USARs). The system picture on the ad looks like what they call the Gatekeeper. Basically is is 8 large tents and two smaller tents with 10 4.5 ton Trane HAVC units on wheels, lights, tables, stretchers. Enough space for 100 patients. Here in NJ our Gatekeeper system is on three large trailers. That means enough storage area for three trailers and three tow vehicles are needed. We have also discussed putting the system on a straight job and this seems to fit the bill plus some extras.
  23. My guess.....High Heat + Transformer Fire = Purple K
