  1. Unfortunately in WestChester, some times PRIDE goeth before the Fall. Many alarms are answered with 3 Engines and a Truck with a rescue , unfortunately most are manned with a driver and little or no crew depending on time of day/night,therfore all the theoretical responses are useless unless the Volunteer rigs wait for a crew to arrive at the station prior to responding.
  2. Talk about hitting the proverbial nail on the head, well written andobviosly wellthoughtout and researched post! Barry your analysis from a Westchester point of view is right on the money
  3. s with a topic such as thisthere are a lot of opinions as to what will work .The latest diet fad or excercise program all of which promise great results! the problem being that as the saying goes "You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink! We can all try to improve our health via diet and excercise but alot of us have the old the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
  4. Downright rude for the mayor to invite a member of the press!!! The breach of privacy in discussing items of public concern puts the press source in a unenviable position. The aggrevied party could sue him for privacy issues as well as the Mayor for having him in the room to begin with.
  5. Absolutely the truth,More F Bombs and drunks
  6. I still miss both the Grumman and the Mack--but that is an old F### talking, rode in the Pierce ,quite a monster rig
  7. Barry,I commented on FB that the cuts never hit the political appointees that suck at the public trough and get better $$$ than Fire Fighters and other city workers and never have to worry about getting cut!!!
  8. FDPRO nailed it !!When the politicians and the Man Ymano thing between the 2 boards get settled maybe they ought to form one unified Dept with equal staffing 24/7. What was written earlier about the varios company rolls is true, many members are in the Active Exempt area(measns they have done thier duty but are not physically able to perform as a 1st grade FF. Nuff said!!!
  9. Having scrolled thru the numerous posts, as a retired FF from PC and a Viilage taxpayer I think it is a travesty what the two Villages are doing to the fire service protecting both communities. Shutting down E 59 because of OT concerns is totally"dime short, dollar foolish"how can they answer to a theoretical situation of having E58 tied up ata reported structural fire onCottage St and a reported structural fire on Park Place{around the corner from station4} housing the unmanned E 59? With no disrespect to the Volunter membership of PCFD,we all know that the Duty Engine may not be the closest unit!
  10. As I stated earlier every thing is fine until you are on scene with either smoke or fire showing at an occupied dwelling and your nextdue Engine/truck is responding from the nearest community and you are alone???This happens in PC and RBFD's As previosly stated, and no knock on the vollunteer part of the response, but again its awfully lonely when you are faced with a situation like this and thenearest help is ???
  11. Thebiggest problem with the Fire service in both PC and RB is that the respective Village boards believe that if you have a FD emergency and a big red fire truck shows up with either PCFD orRBFD on the door there collective butts are covered ,saying "we responded" . Not knocking any Volunteer response but it can get awful lonely waiting for a 2nd due engine when you have a working fire on arrival.
  12. The whole Rye Brook/PortChester situation needs an outside evaluation. The present FD coverage in Rye Brook is shaky at best!as an example when RBFD responds to an alarm PCFD sends a firefighter manned engine and a volunteer engine as 1st due. The problem arises after RBFD goes off duty at 7 pm and a PCFD career firefighter relocates to the Rye Brook station for the night tour and needs backup to come from down town PC. To all of yopu out there hown would you like to respond to a working fire by your self and know backup was a while away???
  13. Many years ago I spoke with a medical resident who was involved FF stress, theymeasured heart rate andB/P on FF's responding to alarms and found #'s that were of the chart. The resident looked at me and said don'tride the back step(it was a long time ago!) as it results inelevated heart rate and B/P--- So Sayeth an old timer!!!
  14. But no NYSPFFA plates or like Ct anIAFF logo on the plate
