  1. I have been along the sound shore working lately, am a member in Port Chester and I must say it is annoying to hear the cab company dispatching calls crossing over onto 46.26. It comes over the scanner, pager and house alert system. It is only a matter of time before it poses a serious problem. I think Rye the other day mistook cab 25 for ladder 25 during a call. Does anyone know of anything being done to fix this problem? What can be done?
  2. My opinion: use all 10 codes, saves radio traffic ( shorter messages) and use plain english only for specific information. It will keep down on outsiders knowing information and will make sure personnel keep up and learn the codes.
  3. My thoughts exactly.... aren't we supposed to be pro-active or something????
  4. After a 15 year stay in Alexandria New Hampshire, E-60, Relianance's 1958 Warde la France has returned to the area. Expect to see it at some parades in the future. It was transformed primarily into a tanker but with some TLC it will be in great condition. Hope to have pictures soon.
  5. Perhaps it is in town.... perhaps it is not...
  6. One other drawback is you have to have text messaging plan, i know with nextel or your bill will skyrocket! Each call gets 2 pages because there is so much infomation from dispatch. Personally I like it. Sometimes it messages me 30 seconds after the pager goes off sometimes it may take 30 mins. Many others will have a different opinion with this sytem.

  8. Does this mean after the show everyone will coordinate what they wear when responding to calls at 4 in the morning? And have matching hair-do's? LOL
  9. Im pretty sure the town of Farmington CT has the paid per call system. A good friend of mine is a member there, allthough they are volunteer they recieve 5 dollars per call as reimbursment for personal expenses ( gas etc...) I do believe if theyre at a call for a certain period of time or for standbys they do get more money. They are only paid twice a year from what i gather as well.
  10. My deepest sympathies to their families and to their dept. This is a trajedy. To everyone else BE CAREFUL... you never know.
  11. Right now it is privately owned by some members, and is being stored at a secret location in Bridgeport, CT.
  12. In response to the white over red PC cheifs car, you will no longer be seeing it as it was replaced somtime last week. The new one is a chevy tahoe with a very nice LED lighting package, it is Car 2391.
  13. Unfortunately, he did not make it, our thoughts go to his family and friends as well as to his brother and sister firefighters of the Southington FD.
  14. Definately watch EBay for the programmers and cables the are at varying prices however i dont beleive they work with windows xp operating systems so check the specs!
  15. Port Chester Fire Dept.'s Former E-60 was donated 15 years ago when it was replaced, to a dept. in Alexandria NH. It was a '58 warde la france I beleive and is in service today as a tanker. The engine has over 47 years of service and still looks great.

  17. http://www.portchesterny.com/Govt/FD/fire(1).htm Or can be found by going thru the village site.
  18. It has been looked into and from what i understand one is already spec'ed out however due to budget constraints and the costly repairs to the "old" ladder 31 a new truck doesnt appear to be anywhere in the near future.
  19. Not anywhere in the near future but their firehouse Station# 5 in Port Chester (Willet Ave) was just refurbished and looks awesome.
  20. In response to previous posts, the two career engines remain seperate, in seperate quarters and all dispatching is now up to 60 control. Depending on the location of the call either engine will respond. At night E-59 Relocates to Rye Brook's new firehouse to staff it while they are off duty. As for making mistakes on the radio I myself have made the mistake out of habbit, which is just a matter of getting rid of the "old" and in with the new terms.
  21. On spots are great, like posted prior, if you get caught before you're able to put on real chains, or if it is just a small amount of snow. As for draining your air supply, they only use a small burst of air to raise or lower the unit to apply pressure to the inner wheel, it shouldnt deplete your supply greatly, if it does maybe theres a leak, get it checked!
  22. I think we had about 6 or 7 calls thus far and there werent any major problems or flaws with dispatching. Another advantage of going to the county was being able to get the call location via alpha page to the cell phone. Works very well and comes in about 1 minute or less after the tone drops.
  23. Using 10 codes cut down on radio traffic to an extent and as to people not knowing them, there is no excuse for that. Knowing how to communicate is key as well as getting the point across simply and clearly is the goal. On an update PC has switched to 60-Control as of 7 am today.
  24. That is a good way to look at it, I agree it will be in the trial stages of course and as a backup we know we can always resort back to the way we were doing things if this switch winds up not working. For the most part i would say everyone is optimistic but that is my take on the matter.
  25. PC was dispatched last week to a rescue call during the storm by 60 control flawlessly so hopefully it will be a sign of things to come. The next few weeks should be intresting to say the least.
