  1. I see no problem wearing shorts on duty, how much can a pair of cotten or nomex pants really help the lower half of your leg anyway? Shorts or not substance comes into contact with you you're still going to shower anyway.
  2. As im sure many other depts. do, remove all protective clothing whenever possible and keep hydrated. This is not to say remove it during a scene where you're in the hot zone, istead remove it after the scene has been determined safe or corrected. We also keep coolers of ice water on many rigs with cups. The water and ice are replaced as needed.
  3. What is the difference between a police station and police substation? THe differences of having cells or not?
  4. Down in PC each company gets 1 key that remains on the rig, and a select few of the drivers get another key. Each of these keys have a computer chip in them id'ing the unit/user. When they go into the pump at our dpw the milage is then entered and the fuel is then dispensed.
  5. Time: 14:32 Location: 9 Webber Drive, PC Port Chester Housing Authority Units: Engines 58,61,63,60; TL 2, R 40 2393,2391 PCPD Description: Units dispatched per PD for a report of smoke in the building. Upon arrival E 63 confirmed a 1075 and E 60 was added to fill out the assignment. En route engine 60 was cancelled and was to remain in quarters per 2393.
  6. There is also occasionally confusion when someone calls 60 control using just "60", for us members of engine 60. It moreoften happens when we radio engine 60 to 60 control they sometimes need to ask to repeat the id.
  7. PC's fireboat does not have a fixed pump but rather a portable and I may be wrong but doenst one of mamaroneck towns have a pump?

  9. Fairfield CT STations 1 3 and 4 all have brass poles, all port chester stations have been removed or never had them.
  10. In CT police cars use both blue and red lighting, I dont think it is a big issue between volunteers and the PD's as to what color their lights are. Personally I could care less.
  11. Here is a link that contains somewhat recent pictures of all the PCFD firehouses, the historic ones as well as the new "south end" station. Just click the picture for a larger version. http://www.portchesterny.com/Govt/FD/fire(1).htm
  12. Port Chester FD stands by every year with 3-4 engines for the village's fireworks display on the lawn of the highschool. They are monday night.
  13. As the above posts have noted, TI cameras are great to show where that energy traveled through the structure, as to show where to investigate. To reiterate, Fire, structrual damage, as well as damage to the infrastructures (plumbing, electrical etc..) are all things that should be checked regardless if there is any apparant damage by qualifed personnel to minimize any hazardous condition caused by the strike. Surrounding buildings, objects (trees, sheds, neighboring houses, and adjoining utilities) should also be checked as well... you never know lightning strikes can damage a wide area.
  14. You cant even live in a trailer home in new york city for that chump change.... What are they thinking.????
  15. Port chester has 3 very old firehouses, each having a lot of history dating back to the begining of the century. Station 4 and 5 both being recently renovated are nice inside as well as out. HQ is scheduled for work and it will be great once everything is complete.
  16. Can someone give a play by play on what happend with this situation, some of us have no clue nor heard the radio transmission everyone has been talking about in this post. But if its a sensative subject and is being talked around i understand.
  17. Yes however they have Fairfield county and Westchester county on the same channel so its hard to listen to one nevermind both at the same time. A live feed of 60ctrl would be GREAT!

  19. I must say the people in that office do a great job. But right now they dont have to handle the entire county's comunications. If they did im sure more staffing/expansion would be done to accomodate this. Maybe someone that works there or has an expertise in the area could answer the question as to whether or not they could handle the entire county if need be. I do aplogize if it was answered in the previous replies I may have missed it. Once again hats off to those behind the phones/computers/radios. Thank you all.
  20. Career or volunteer, the rescue truck still made it to the scene and no one was injured....
  21. I dont know much about a repeater on there however i do know that the cheif cars as well as e-58 and e-59 have mobile repeaters that rebroadcast 46.26 onto our tactical channel. Not sure what the frequencies are, plus they are only on when the units are in operation. Anyone else from PC may have better knowledge of these or the repeater on prospect situation....
  22. Was wondering which municipalitie(s) in the county have large or the largest dept. Not just in manpower but the area covered, number of units, total runs overall..... Thought it would be a fun topic.
  23. so then we shall compare career and volunteer/comb.
  24. Love the old scott 4.5 scba with the built in pass. I was wondering the same for the NxG2 as well as the airpack 50. How or are they different from the 4.5's?
  25. Does any one have any pics from Port chesters Franks Pizza Fire from last year (aug/sept) or one from the 10-75 on Poningo st. last saturday?
