What does everyone think...seems like a great idea to me
-
Another uneccessary death, what were those instructors thiniking.
-
Good point...Why should we put our lives in the hands of an occupant when all we have to do is bring our own supply with us just as the fire service has done for years.
-
I may be wrong but, I don't believe that the original question was answered? What is an Interior Qualified Firefighter? In order to become an Interior Firefighter in Fairview (Dutchess) you must be competent and proficient in the material addressed in FF1, Firefighter Survival, and F.A.S.T. (Line Officers must attend even further training)
-
This is the problem with this world today. Commom Sense Isn't So Common anymore. So, we need to spell out everything. You have a great concept Sage, however, "What is an Interior Qualified Firefighter?"
-
Good Idea, but I go back to the comment I made before. The hoses sit in the cabinet forever; sometimes never inspected or changed. So now at 2am when we show up for a fire and go to set up the line...we don't know what will happen. So in my eyes it is just easier to bring your own hose up. If this means placing another engine and ladder on a M/A assignment for the larger buildings then that is what may have to happen.
-
"The only thing that happened to me was...MY BLUE HAT GOT DIRTY!!!" This is what the man said.
-
I'm watching him right now on the Late Show with David Letterman. Very Dramatic
-
That is correct... However most sprinklers only put out 15 gallons a minute of water compared to the fire departments 100 or more. The Class II standpipe system(the ones with hose attached) is not recommended at all for fire department use. The hose, most likely, has not be kept in good condition and because we are much more preventative and safety oriented the occupants need to get out of the building safely. I know most of the commercial buildings in my district have removed the hoses just for this reason.

I would think that this is what we pay insurance for?

The Po-Town Poughkeepsie NY Fairview Fire
-
Nicely put...That was going to be my next post.
-
And I should add that the firefighter should be disciplined in the same manner.
-
Won't miss it
-
This seems to be a problem within the fire service; however, it shouldn't be. A firefighter is a firefighter whether he/she is carrer or volunteer, each should abide by the same set of rules and regulations set forth by their departments.

I disagree, I beleive that it's the joy of the fans and parade goes to hear the fire department. Normally when an individual hears or sees sirens and lights it's not for fun. In a parade, it's a different story. When I was a child that's what I went to the parade for; to see the BRT's.

Ok went to a prep class offered by DCC and the new rumor hitting the street is that 400 applications were recieved for this test. This was mentioned by two very reliable sources. I guess that's nothing comparred to 55....
-
Sorry there kid...I signed up on Wednesday and since the article either a total or an additional 60-70 people handed in applications. The word got out

Fairview in Dutchess County also has a gym. We do not have a requirement to use it, but because of the LODD because of Heart attacks most members use it. We have: a multi-unit, Free weights, 2 tredmills, stairmaster, stationary bike and multiply other units. My advice to all, stay trained and stay in shape.

I wonder if they've got the 2x4's in the trunk like the comercial?
