I was a member of Larchmont VAC a while back and we had at least one guy that lived in the Bronx. It worked out OK because we had assigned Crew Duty Nights and the crew usually slept in the bunk room at night so that may be an option for you. Give them a shout. http://www.larchmontvac.org/

Was requested to call Dispatch the other night about midnight (thank god they didnt tone out everyone). Was advised that there was a cat in a tree, what is your pleasure? My first comment was "I'll be right over with my 12 Ga. She chucked (phew). I said we will not come out for a cat in a tree. Most times all you do is chase it up higher anyway when you try to grab them. Said it will come down in its own time. Guess what, the next morning it was sitting on the front step of the owners house. Imagine that.

I, as most, use the EMTBravo.com site as the front end into the forum site. Usually check it a few times a day. Honestly, I scan through the material there before going into the forum, but it does not appear that there are many regular updates so I move on. The things that are there are quality stuff, but I believe it would be more interesting if there were more pictures if actual Fire & EMS Incidents as well as the Spy Shots and Apparatus photos. Dont get me wrong, I appreciate the pictures on there, but I think it could be mixed up a bit with other types of photos and the like. I bet that the membership has plenty of photos that they could submit (albeit, not the same quality as yours), but hey, I wouldnt have a problem looking at pictures of guys at work or an MVA or something, even if it is not perfect.

Has anybody heard anything aout this "Update" found on PCBES Official Website ? http://www.pcbes.org/ Announcements last updated August 20, 2007 Update on Advanced Life Support From Commissioner McMahon: It appears that we may have come to a resolution on the ALS funding dilemma. I do not have any details yet, however, Bob Cuomo, the Legislature and the County Executives office have been working non stop toward a solution. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. Please understand that there was never a move to diminish the role of ALS in Putnam County. I hope you appreciate that all of our elected officials in County government are committed toward providing the best possible services at the best possible price. Since this ALS contract presented such a significant budgetary impact the Legislature demonstrated due diligence in seeking alternate solutions. We at the Bureau of Emergency Services are also committed to that end and we will continue to explore innovative and efficient ways to continue to make Putnam County a safe place to live and visit.

Nice Job Guys........... Nice Video http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...IDEO01/70829010 Brewster house blaze displaces couple By MELANIE PLENDA THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: August 30, 2007) BREWSTER - Two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion last night, but no one else was injured in a fire that rendered a Rockledge Drive house uninhabitable, a fire official said. The fire at 18 Rockledge Drive was reported shortly after 7 p.m. and is thought to have started in the garage before spreading into the rest of the house, said Shawn Conrad, first assistant chief of the Brewster Fire Department. The cause of the blaze was not known last night. When firefighters arrived at the scene, Conrad said, the left side of the house was engulfed in flames. The residents, a couple, were outside. Their son arrived about 9 p.m., and they were expected to stay with him. It took firefighters about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control, Conrad said. On Aug. 5, the Brewster Fire Department responded to a house fire about 5 miles away at 65 Panorama Drive. In that incident, firefighters helped keep a garage fire from spreading to the rest of a one-story house. A vehicle that the homeowner had apparently been working on in the garage was destroyed by the fire. A few firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, and the homeowner suffered minor injuries.

Gauntlet Wrist versus Elastic Wrist will depend on the type of coat that you wear. Some of the newer coats have an integrated elastic wrist sleeve that is buit into the coat itself and matches up with the Gauntlet Glove which is what I have. They usually have a thumbstrap thay keeps the wrist sleeve from pushing back into the coat, hence you can use the gauntlet glove. With the older coats you need to use the gloves with the elastic wrist which provides the wrist protection.

An Awful Awful thing has happened in the Fire Service here. I believe that nobody in this forum in any way shape or form is looking to disrespect any of our brothers that were killed. In fact I believe that everyone IS grieving in their own way. The fact of the matter is that this could happen again today. In my town, In your town, In your brothers town. We need to discuss this NOW, and tomorrow, and the next day too. If discussions like this that are taking place right now, around the country and probably around the world, make us think a second or 2 longer and possibly make a different move, then its all worth it. I believe that all 9 of our fallen brothers are looking down on us at this very minute, proud that we are discussing it and hopefully looking to avoid another tragredy. Dont let their deaths be in vain. Talk about it, maybe someone reading will learn something and use it tonight.............

We flipped ours about 3 years back. Roof on the inside, Extention on the outside. If you think about it, it really makes sense. You need the Extension Ladder first to get to the roof to place the Roof Ladder. Plus, if someone gets jammed up and you need to throw the Extention Ladder quickly, you grab it and go and dont have to mess around with taking the roof ladder off first.

Thanks right there where I wasn't looking, duh.

Any idea how much these things cost ? The video's shown on their website may not be Network Quality, but clear enough to get the point across. This might be a great Training Tool. Pretty Slick............

Is it me or did it look like the second guy out the window did not have an Air Pack on ???? I can't believe someone would have gone into that without one.

I believe they are Toast..... Another department in the area came across the same thing when they went to pick up their uniforms. All closed up with no explanation. They have already started using an outfit in Armonk called New England Sportswear for their uniform needs. (not an endorsement, but an idea if youre looking)

Black Cloud hit the nail on the head here. This was more about the mayor abusing her power. There was no intention of moving one of the Captains up to Chief and moving a Lt to Captain. The mayors plan was to promote a Lt right to Chief (a specific Lt who was already chosen in advance I will add) and jump right over the present Captains. That should say something right there about intention. If she really felt a need for a paid chief, thats her perogative, but to do it in a way that was pretty much railroaded through is BS. Go through the correct process and get a list and interview and go through a selection process and work with everyone involved to make sure this is the correct choice. And if it does happen, the candidates should come from the outside and have no prior affiliation to the current staff. Same crew with a new title aint gonna change a damn thing. Backdoor politics is all that is going on here. Good Luck

Just out of curiosity, how can 2 pieces of aparatus in the same county have the same designation ? Larchmont has a Rescue 1 also. Never noticed that. Not that they will ever play together, but if 60 Control ever calls them in for Mutual Aid, the radio traffic might get a bit messy.

My first question would be, "Is something broken" that would necessitate a need for a Paid Chief in the Department? In my opinion, there would have to be a great need and a lot broken to suddenly add roughly $200,000 per year, every year moving forward (with the new chief position and backfilling the open slot) to the tax roll of the Village of Larchmont residents. My second question would be, with a Roster of, I believe 14 or 15 career staff, they currently have 3 Lieutenants and 2 Captains which is 1/3 of the entire staff. How is it that in essence, changing one of the current officers title and throwing him a few more bucks will fix, whatever problems the Mayor seems to have with the department. Same players will be in place. If they cant take care of business now, how will a title change anything other than the tax bill of the residents ? This is nothing more than an ongoing power struggle by the career staff to take power away from the volunteers.

My Department is in the process of purchasing a Washer / Extractor - Dryer Setup for cleaning our Turnout Gear . Thank you very much Mr Federal Government. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what Make / Model works best and what we might want to stay away from ? As for the Washer We are looking at a standard Comercial Washer designed for the Fire Service. With the Dryer, it looks like there are a few types available. There is the Tumble Dryer similar to what you have in your house, and then there is the one that the gear hangs in and warm air blows on it to dry it. Is one better than the other ? Any recommendations on what we should look at ?

Larchmont VAC Started a Team a while back. I dont believe it is still active at this time though. We also used Butch Hendrick from Lifeguard Systems in Ulster County for our training. He provided good training and I as well would recommend his group if you are seriously looking into putting a team together. We had a guy that thought he needed to wear his Rolex while we were training and Butch didnt think so, so he took it off the guy and threw it into the murky Long Island Sound about 30 feet off the dock we were using. With Blacked out masks and using tethered search patterns we found the watch. That made a statement.
