Awesome Shots......... Some Job !

Below your knee'er ? Nice Job Guys...

We have a few guys who prefer to do it that way (flipping the Step Chock over so the steps are on the bottom. I personally believe in using them right side up as you have a small platform that the vehicle actually sits on which also provides MORE contact area with the vehicle than upside down. Flipping it upside down really only creates a Large Wedge with Teeth on the bottom and lessens the contact area with the vehicle. It may have a better bite to the roadway, but more of a chance to slip at the vehicle because it has a fairly significant angle to it. Anyone ?

Thank You Thank You Too... God, wouldn't you just love to see that happen. Too Funny
-
Sweet......... Love the reverse angle Mike !!!

Are those handlines that are coming off the engine 1 1/2" Lines or 1 3/4" ?

We are in the process of putting Spec's together for a new Rescue and have the following concern. Initially we drew up the spec stating that the Roll-up Doors (Robinson Series III) were to be painted along with the rig, but now are getting some feedback that that may not be the best way to go. It is being discussed that we leave the doors the natural unpainted aluminum. Reasoning behind this is that the road grime gets caught in the Vertical Weatherstripping on each side and over time the movement of the door being opened and closed will scratch the paint and wear it right off eventually.... Has anyone had this occur or have any input on the best way to go with this one ?
-
Thanks everyone for the replies. Will throw it into the blender and see what we come up with. At this time its leaning toward the Unpainted Aluminum. The Rescue is going to be a Non Walk In Type so it will be pretty much "All Doors" all the way around which means almost the entire Box will be unpainted and may look a little funky.... We'll see. Now lets see.......... Red or Lime Green...................... Kidding, we are traditionally All Red, but I do like the "Black over Red" scheme. Thanks again.

Not sure if it has to do with anything, but I went past Patterson FD (where Medic 4 & BLS 4 run out of) this afternoon and a new Bus was parked there. It caught my eye because it definitely was not an Empire Rig. I am pretty sure it said Hudson Valley on the side............
-
Not sure about NFPA Regs but I believe all of Chicago FD uses 3/4 Boots........ My Opinion is Bunkers Hands Down. Way Back, I was the first in my old department to have bunkers (at my own cost) and I still believe they are the best way to go, unless you are doing a pump out or going fly fishing.
-
Some places in the country call it a RIT Team also. (Rapid Intervention Team) I am sure if you ask around in your department, you will find that they use this as well.
-
I never knew that the stuff was harmful to the apparatus & clothing. Who'd a thunk.... I will take your word for it though. Kinda not into that parade thing anymore (another story). What I am getting out of this is that it should probably be stopped though. The question I would ask would be, "is Banning It the right way to go?" Maybe a calmer approach like making the public aware that it can be damaging would have a big impact. I am sure that the Kids that use it and the Parents that buy it for the kids probably have no idea that it is even a concern of ours. I bet that if they were aware, then most of it would stop on its own. Maybe put out a flier or an article in the local paper asking for their help and understanding. As someone posted earlier, the parades do create somewhat of a bond between the Fire / Police / Amb and the community and come referendum time we may want to have them on our side. just a thought

Larchmont has a 1991 Pierce (Dash, I believe) Engine 1500 / 500

See you at the movies.......... Oh thats right, don't have one in my town. OK, Then see you at the pool......... Damn, no public pool either. Gym membership, Nope, Pay Full Boat........ All the time people whine and complain about the Volunteer numbers going down and it getting harder and harder to get the rigs on the road. Now the state is attempting to do a little something to help ease the pain of this recent gas price increase and the hit to the volunteers serving their community, and all we hear is this nonsense? Please....... Kinda seems like some people on this forum dont have a problem with the numbers going down, hmmmmmmmmmm, imagine that.
-
Thanks Chris, That splains everything............... SideNote. tried to look at the article from the Journal Rag Online and their Website has been Dead Dog Slow the last few days. Anyone else seeing this or is it just me ? http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage

Went to a Graduation last week in CT and the kids somehow plugged into the PA System and as the commencement started, some Brittany Spears song started blasting over the PA System. The superintendent was going nuts. He was trying to rip the speaker wire from the speaker, only to realize that there were about 20 speakers all over. This went on for a minute or 2 until they figured it out and got it back to normal. Did it disturb the "Solemn Ceremony"? sure, but most got a chuckle out of it. Its called A PRANK.... Get Over It..... I think some Westchester people need to lighten up a bit and enjoy life instead of being "Better Than The Rest" Other places would have been no problem at all.

Who is SAM-2 ?

Damn Missed it ANyone know if it will repeat ?

Really was not as bad as it was made out to be. The EMT, did admit to Falsifying Documents, but they didn't get into it. I am sure his Boss will be talking to him today though. When he was asked about "Touching a Female Patient", he answered NO (Truthfully), so that was all hype.......... He quit with $100K in his pocket, but will be getting an a** whopping from his girl when they get home. I am sure $100K will dull the pain though. The Firefighter was a girl from someplace on Long Island. She didnt make it too far and got the boot when she said that she never lost intetest sexually in her husband (who was sitting there). And BZZZZZZZ the lit detector said different. So she goes home and sleeps on the couch empty handed.

I think you nailed it Ed. They used to be called "County Coordinators" a while back, with each coordinator assigned to a predesignated area. Possibly the County Coordinator title was somewhat misleading as they were not really coordinating the entire county, but just a part of it, hence the name change to Battalion Coordinator.

This was sent to me by someone in my department recently and I thought I would throw it out here and see if anyone else agrees with this ? I will also state that I DO NOT agree with his philosophy. Amazing video clip of part of a front bumper from a car shooting off during firefighting efforts. More and more FD's are attacking invovled vehicle fires with their deck gun. Interesting cocnept, especially afetr watching this clip. The insurance industry clearly states that any fire of significance in any of the three compartments on a vehicle (engine, passenger, trunk) results in the car being totalled as it is chepaer to repalce it than repair it. So why risk anything to fight that fire?. Why are we gearing up and running up to these car fires to put them out and putting our lives in jeapordy. Time to rethink how and why we fight these things the way we do. Let the video do the explaining i guess...... Does anyones department SOG's advocate using Deck Gun's to extinguish a vehicle fire ? I believe that good training and proper attack approach angle with a handline should greatly diminish this concern. My Opinion.
-
More and more FD's are attacking invovled vehicle fires with their deck gun. ...... I guess I was wondering who the "More and More" departments were that are already using this strategy. Maybe thats not really the case.........
