The streamlights are all a P.O.S. Survivor light lasted 1.5 years and took a crap, So I bought the Fire Vulcan and that battery died 1 year and 2 months to the day... I just replaced the battery, (Not Cheap) A few fellow brothers have had problems with both the battery and the light bulbs falling out inside the housing... For the money these things cost you would expect a better quality light... You would be better off buying a small LED flashlight from the parts store for 3-4 bucks and they come with batteries

Yes a bit exaggerated but you know where I am coming from. I guess it's just like anything else they all have pro's and con's the question is what really will work.what might be good for dutchess might not work in rockland or in westchester or visa versa. and in the really busier depts compared to the slower depts it will also be a lot different. I am game for what works but I do fell the 10 codes on a national standardization would be more effective.

From what I heard, I don't think the new truck is supposed to be any bigger than the new engine 22

nyemt you just summed up my point. I am not saying the bikers are right for riding the lines but what sick individual would purposely block a 400- 700 lb, 2 wheeled, non protected vehicle from going thru??????
-
you see theres the problem. guys like you who assume to much and are bike haters. I lost a few friends on bikes and guess what it was the a**hole driving the car. perfectg example 1 of my friends was sitting at a RED light and some idiot ran him over from behind 1st off i used to ride religously every day with at least 15 - 20 bikes and with all the bbq's or night stops at various hangouts not one of us would have even 1 drink. Can't say so for anyone driving a car! Let me start off by telling you the whole picture don't just stop at bikes weaving...finish the story!!!! I can speak from experience I have been on everything from harleys to crotch rockets. people who hate bikes will do anything to stop them. for example the bikes go by you on lets say the taconic at 100 plus mph weaving, an a**hole driving in the middle lane with no traffic in front of him for no apparent reason decides he's going to move over to either the left or right lane because either he looked in his mirror and saw bikes or a couple have already passed him by so he moves, now with nowhere to go the bikes lock up the brakes and guess what???
-
I also ride but lets face it it isn't us its the dopes driving. some hate bikes, some are on cell phones, some are doing make-up, some are old, some are blind, some are new drivers, some are plain old stupid... there should be a required driver safety course every year for new drivers, every 2 years when you hit 21, and every 3years after that and when you hit about 60 it should be every year again. I have been riding on the street for over 15 years and on bikes for about 30 and one thing I can tell you is over 80 % of motorcycle accidents are the cars fault

Hey Monty take this how you want! I can speak probably for about 95% of my job in saying if it's about the money then we really don't want you on our job anyway. We are looking for fellas who want to fight fires regardless of pay, and every job out there starts low and increases each year! It's about putting in your hard time and making things work even if it takes working 2-3 other jobs on your time off. Look at the guys who take the Mount Vernon job, start w/ 23k a year and go up gradually to around 32k a year for the first 4 years and then hit top pay after that That's a struggle but they still have guys taking the test knowing this!

I am not 110% on this but I am pretty sure that you are graded on all the events combined with a total time for all. (I.E.)hose pull 18:20 plus stair climb 42:10 plus donut lift 15:33 plus monkey bars 11:41 etc... equals a total of 87:04 or 1:27:04 and that gets graded amongst all who took the physical then they average it in with the written to come up with a total grade and placement on the list. Thats why it is very important to do well on both the written and the physical and for those who scored a couple of points lower on the written may be able to make up a few on the physical

yes I agree with you snotty... I know for sure that mount vernon and white plains is pass or fail everyone who passes gets a 70% and is measured on how well they do on the physical and this was in part of the Vulcan decree and by the way I know it sounds weird but I just noticed that you joined the board slightly ahead of me. you are one number ahead on the same day!

pass written get invited to physical..grades should arrive sometime in August(past procedures) practice physical in september (highly recommended) actual physical usually 2nd and 3rd weekend in october new list to superceed old list on or around January 27th 2007 priority is given to RESIDENTS of New Rochelle as a residency list is established 1st. after all residents who pass are established in number order then the NON-RESIDENT list starts 50% written 50% physical physical as every other city consists of timed events and every 1/10 of a second counts simple math you do well on the written and are in excellent shape and do extremely well on the physical you should place in top 5 and with any luck you will be hired in the spring and Join a PREMIER DEPARTMENT hope this helps
