  1. Can anyone say: NFPA 1901?! I also have seen tools laying in apparatus, personally, I don't like it. I feel that anything in that cab is a projectile waiting to happen should a collision occur. Our apparatus all have some form of equipment in them, and in all of them it is secured one way or another. If it isn't then GOD FORBID you have a collision, look out for flying tools!
  2. Bu!!s***, plain and simple. They prosecute Cops for defending themselves?! Man, you guys in Blue have it tougher and tougher everyday - God bless ya!!!
  3. That looks like the old Holla Hose Co. #5 Engine 100 that was replaced a few years ago with their current ALF. Cool find.
  4. Cool. What happened to the old E130? It was at Camp Smith for a while, right?
  5. The whole world is going MAD! I feel bad for that girl and her family, that is insane.
  6. Growing up in a Black and White car community, nothing ever looked cooler then a new car, whatever it was, coming down the street with the gold lettering and the "latest" lights. I was a big fan of the Caprices that had the LtI motors in them. As of right now though, I think the Dodge Charger in Black and White is the sharpest thing going - especially the County Police's unit. Man that would look bad a** in Croton! Too bad they keep getting Fords.
  7. If we tried to prevent every stupid person from every stupid act we would go insane, then eventually be out of work. ALS said it best - risk vs. gain. What would you say to a member's family if they were to get killed trying to rescue a dog? Think about that... I know I won't ever put myself or my brothers and sisters in that situation.
  8. It's like I said, whatever any organization chooses to do is their choice, I just hate how they hold everyone up on a pedestal when it benefits them, but when they've had their fill of what they need from the people their story changes. I like that "threw up in your mouth comment..."
  9. To me, an emergency means the threat of a loss of life, a human life. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and cats, but if I was a Chief Officer I would not let my apparatus respond emergency mode nor would I risk the lives of my people for an animal. If there was a dog on ice in need of rescue I would do whatever we could with our resources without risking the lives of my personnel. I can't allow myself to attend a LODD Funeral for trying to save a pet. Nor can I see the need to go lights and sirens to help - it's a public assistance call, much like a pump-out or lock-out, and those to me are not emergencies. Hate me if you want, but imagine telling a woman and her kids that Daddy died while trying to get to a dog on a pond or up on a ladder fetching someone's cat. And for the record this isn't a dig at any one incident or one agency, I feel this way strongly only because I think we take enough risks as it is, why add to it?
  10. I am in no way a political kind of guy, but it makes me get that sick feeling everytime 9/11 is dragged into politics. I don't discredit the IAFF's choices, nor anyone else's - but nothing angers me more in life then politicians and election time. I hate the fact that all the heroic things done by Firefighters, Police and EMS prior to and even after 9/11 don't really mean a thing. These low-life politicians, or as I call them, "DaVincis of Bullshit," will say whatever it is that the crowd they are standing in front of wants to hear. "Heroes of 9/11," - only because you want their votes!!! How often do members of the political world go to Small Town USA to pay their condolences to a Firefighter that dies in the Line of Duty? Do all these DC heavy-hitters come out and pay tribute to every Cop killed? Can they even name some of those lost on 9/11 - those "heroes" that they speak so highly of? I doubt it, furthermore, I don't even care if they could. If I ever die in the line of duty I would hope that each person (all 5 of you) in attendance would do me a solid and kick these vote-mooching a******* out of the service. Go pass out your BS and pamphlets somewhere else! Rant out!
  11. "Problem rectified, m'am."
  12. Oh man, now I feel old!!! I remember her too, God, have I really been around that long?! Speaking of those Suburbans, the first time I had to drive one to the ER it DIED on the way and the Medic (forget his name) blamed me.....prick.... Correct me if I am wrong, but the Tri-Community ALS program that I usually work with was a couple years older then CRP, right? I still remember both of them launching. Prior to them it was either OVAC to the south or 2347 going north. Wow, I think I want to retire now....

  14. Croton-on-Hudson FD is hosting it on April 3rd at the Harmon Firehouse at 7PM.
  15. ALS brings up a good point about FAST use at non-fires. I can recall two incidents where our FAST was utilized at non-fire incidents. One was in our own district on a hot Summer night where guys were investigating an odor in a Supermarket and the other was Mutual Aid where we staged while the "host" department resolved a minor haz-mat incident. In addition to incidents we have been to, our FAST is on all tech-rescue assignments in our district due to the vast training in that area our members have. Calling of resources has been a never-ending debate. Knowing your district and your resources should guide you into making good decisions and getting what you need and not "over-doing it." When it comes to FASTs it is too bad that nobody puts them on a standby (at the very least) for reported fires. Even in the paid system when you are responding from out of town you still lose time. If information on the way in sounds like a job, start them in to the scene and turn them around if you don't need them.
  16. We've found over time that when we go and ask someone to join, they usually don't pan out. Those that want to join will always wander up to a firehouse or grab someone wearing an FD shirt in a deli and ask. Those are the ones that are your best bet. Self-promotion / advertising works too, but you have to be mindful of the image you want to project and the people you want to bring in. For example, if you have a "rock and roll" image, you may get a bunch of guys looking to get off on the adrenaline rush and not do it for the right reasons! Hence the world I like to call, "Vollywood." Well designed websites, a clean public image and videos done with the right meaning will get the right attention.
  17. Asking Seth if he has other Code 3 Collectables is like asking him if he has websites....
  18. Mike M. - FDNY TRUCKS - has some shots.
  19. You should have them, they were pics from the Somers fire. I am on a different computer and different server so I will try uploading them today. Do all images have to have a url or is there another way to put them on?
  20. I can't seem to upload images lately, any thoughts?
  21. Good points, I have nothing else to offer but this: 1. Don't put the fire out. 2. Encourage Global Warming. 3. Revert back to the old "Leather Lungs" mentality.

  23. Interesting way to store the stokes. Where is it normally kept? Anyone know?
  24. The link below has photos from the PL Custom site of Verplanck's new 83B1.
