  1. If I'm not mistaking, that Pound Ridge rig (E112) and Bedford's E108 both carry 5000+ feet of 5" LDH. All I have to say is WOW. Our three Engines are all carrying close to 1500 feet now, mostly for the long driveways and non-hydrant areas we cover. It is a b**** packing that stuff, but like you other guys have said, once you get it going in a nice, organized motion, it goes pretty quick. Who cares how it looks? Follow NFPA and cover that bed up! One other thought for the FD adding the 2000 feet to your current load, be mindful of the added weight to your rig - adding that much hose is going to add roughly 2100 pounds!
  2. Going along the lines of the County's Tech Rescue Team...perhaps, one day, a County Dive Team?! That would be great, asuming we could find a way to make it happen. It's too bad more Fire Departments along the Hudson don't have Dive/Rescue capabilities. We made mention of it once a few years ago and were instantly shot down because PD has theirs. A joint-effort for Dive and even Swift-Water Rescue would be fantastic with the two rivers and several ponds, lakes and reservoir we have in our jurisdiction. Between the PD and FD we have a total of three boats and two Zodiacs... it could be a great thing...hmmm
  3. Any of you remember or still use those pike pole-like things for moving downed wires? I remember one department near us that had them and I always thought to myself that it was a disaster waiting to happen. Luckily they got rid of them and to my knowledge nothing went bad.
  4. It is in fact Knox Box DTMF codes you are hearing. Of course, there is always the "faster" DTMF tones which are used to activate Ossining's horns and house sirens, but those are transmitted with the usual Quick-Call tones everyone else has.
  5. It looks like L16 has a tight pull out of Station 2. Great video, it's always nice working with you guys on the other end of the radio! Be safe.
  6. To be honest, it isn't all that bad....it has potential. Give it time, after all, it is new.
  7. Interesting story.... But can't you find a better title for the thread?
  8. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!! Is that a CAD computer on your desk?! You silly bastard you!!!!
  9. Are the David Clark headsets something new? We tried to get them on our Engine but it didn't happen as planned. Two speakers - UHF and Trunked? What is the little compartment behind the Driver's side crew door for? Radios? Nice looking rigs, good luck with them!! I like seeing the little changes you do from one order to the next to keep with the times and to accommodate the crews.
  10. I always liked tke HME chasis and cabs. they are solid. The HME/Saulsbury we have (E118) is built like a tank, I remember when it came in 1993 how impressive it was, and almost 15 years later it's still a workhorse.
  11. I thought Ham Night was like a Ham Dinner.....I suck....
  12. For those of you in Westchester County, you can request the Salvation Army canteen and/or Red Cross from 60 Control anytime you need it. In addition to that, you can even add them into your "Greater Alarm Plans." Some departments have it programmed into the CAD to automatically dispatch the SA or RC on multiple-alarm incidents to help rehab.
  13. Why does it look "amature?" Many, MANY Departments have multiple companies and all of which are lettered and designed differently to the taste and preference of the members. If it operates as it is intended to and performs it's job, then who cares if it looks like something else?! I think it looks nice but more importantly, it looks well designed to FIGHT FIRES. Good luck with it.
  14. It will be harder to grab a hold of an audience with the production being on different channels in different areas. News12 is simple enough.....it is channel 12. I say the more the merrier, gives me more to skip over when channel-surfing.
  15. Allow me to throw a wrench in the works here.... You are responding on a report of a house fire. You come up on a different house fire while responding. Now what do you do? And to answer the other question, Stop, check for life-threatening injuries or any danger that needs to be immediatly neutralized, call for resources and if need be, leave someone / some personnel on scene without drastically cutting down on our manpower.
  16. They got rear-ended while responding?! That's a new one.... Best thoughts to the injured for a speedy and full recovery.
  17. Got a thing for her? Killing her dog is a GREAT IDEA!!! A$$hole! Here's an idea of what this type of dog would look like. I for one think they should jack this guy up a little... poor dog.
  18. Sweet! We were out in Wisconsin last year to see our Engine, and that facility is impressive to say the least. I had no idea they had a facility in Canada too. I can't wait to see the finished product, an ellipitical Seagrave has "sharp" written all over it. How many dumps will it have?
  19. And hence the reason why red sports cars cost more in insurance money...
  20. I don't get why this truck is so special....there isn't a body or a tank on it?! Looks like it is coming along nicely, best of luck with it!
  21. It's very nice, went by our firehouse around 4:30. Real nice looking, best of luck with it!
  22. A lot of Departments like to be self-sufficient and in most cases, they can come up with the money to buy all the toys they want. I don't think we will ever have one in our district because we have Buchanan to the north, Yorktown to the east and Millwood and Briarcliff to our south. Why spend the money? A County unit or two - not a bad idea - but who is going to pay for it since all these departments are buying them? It would be a waste of money to have so many redundencies.
  23. I gotta go with the majority, get a truck tire tube. We have about 6 of them at our firehouse and cut them up for helmet bands all the time.
  24. This thing could of been a really bad disaster, and what he did is very noble to say the least! GOOD JOB.
