One of the bonuses, in my eyes, for Police to have a TIC is for those agenices that patrol in boats. Specifically in my neck of the woods. They can cruise up the Croton River at night and use the TIC to see people hiding along the shore that don't belong there (vandals, trespassers, etc.). It is a great tool for them to have, and I'm actually amazed that they were able to secure one so easily - we had to get our first one with grant money and the purchase of our second one wasn't very smooth. Hopefully when we try to get another one we aren't allowed to because of the PD's purchase of one. Time will tell....

I think it's a News van.

I would think that those not really in the gangs would wear these to look "tough." It's like the little a-holes in my area that spray paint gang graffitti and have no affiliation. I also have been annoyed for a long time to see any Yankees or other team's apparel that isn't in the team's colors. I have always hated seeing orange or pink or green Yankees stuff - but again, that's just me.

Croton PD has one, not sure what it is used for or what training if any they have had with it.

I just don't get one thing. Why is everyone so hell-bent on waiting on their equipment? I am pretty sure that at least 95% of the ambulances around carry more then one set of immobilzation equipment, and have plenty of spare stuff at the station. If the ER is taking too long to give you your stuff back, leave, restock in quarters and have a nice day. There is nothing we can do to solve the problem of vanishing equipment. Life goes on.

I remember our wood ladders - like others said - a lot of maintenance went into them. I recall varnishing them, tightening rungs and other hardware too often. Fiberglass or aluminum for me please. On a side note - as dumb as I realize it was, we used to put the wood ladders on for parades because they looked better, but that was almost 10 years ago.

I like seeing things like this! Good job WCPD and PCPD!

I can say from personal experience that I have not only worked, but volunteered places where I was TOLD that taking equipment that wasn't ours was fine because others took ours. Bottom line, have a little respect for each other - we all have to pay for this stuff and money doesn't grow on trees!!!! Tommy, there's one thing I have learned - never trust a medic in shorts!!!! (Who loves ya baby?! LOL)

Not much different then when everyone goes upstate for the HVVFA convention parade... Hey, can we even say "Hooters" anymore?

LMAO - I mean, LMBO!!!!

I see the point you're trying to make, but you really shouldn't take everything too seriously. You'll give yourself an ulcer! I haven't found anything offensive myself, probably because like almost everyone on here I grew up around the firehouse and cursing is as much a part of it as complaining is. If people are offended by the material, send them a box of kleenex to cry into. I'll even pay for it, because in my eyes, if you can't handle criticism, ribbing, ball-breaking and occassional cursing, you should pack it in and find something else to do. This is a grown-ups' world and people can easily be killed - if swearing upsets you, good luck Skippy. I am sure I have offended some people with this - but as the saying goes, stuff happens.

And the problem is?! JUST KIDDING! Those cages at WMC are a disgusting mess! We've lost boards down there as well as straps and head blocks too. It's so nasty in there perhaps the boards and other equipment just dissolve?!

The best I could come up with for oneeye is this. (911 municipal agencies, not transports) Still All-Volunteer: 21 VACs (Or FD/EMS) VAC w/ Paid Staff: 13 Agencies Paid Services: 4 If it wasn't for the relatively die-hard volunteers in some agenices, paid staffing would be in all of them. As for those (like mine) that barely cover anything, it's way past time to come up with a solution.

Make a human pyramid!!!! I think Montrose's new E122 will get the job done - an aerial isn't needed at every fire. Hey Grumpy, I take it you won't be buying E250 as a souvenir??? X635, Millwood's Squirt is also a top-mount pump. It is odd, but I have seen it a couple other places....the other one I am thinking of was Fairview I think, not sure.

It's about damn time! I remember going over specs for it about 18 months ago, what took so long?!

Recently, I was on an EMS call where the spouse of the patient wanted to come with us. Like always, we accomodated her and informed her she had to sit in the front seat with her seatbelt on. BUT The woman in question is blind. She depends on the services of her seeing eye dog. She asked if we could transport it. Being the senior member of the crew, I had to make a decision. I have been doing EMS for 15 years and this is the first time I ever had this come up. Since one of the EMTs and I are both allergic, because with the patient and wife we already had five people on board and because I am pretty sure there is a DOH rule on this, I declined. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can provide me on this, it's been bothering me because I really don't know. Thanks.

I'm so annoyed. I saw the thread, googled Brookhaven FD and was almost on the road when I watched the CNN clip. That's kinda funny...

I recently was on vacation in NJ and can tell you this.... If I had a camera, I would start a 100 post thread! My father and I noticed some guys HAMMERED at a bar one evening while we were out to dinner. They were talking about the rollover the night before (I was there, no camera - sorry) and how one guy "Was so hammered he couldn't remember which apparatus he rode to the call!!!! Oh, and they had their pagers on them while they were at the bar. I'm proud to be a volunteer firefighter, but ----- like these make it harder to advertise what I do.
