The reason you hear traffic going into Hudson Valley ER on the trunked is because their VHF was OOS this week. Now, more importantly - I need some scanner help. I got a BCT15. Got the conventional programmed fine. Need help with the trunked. I made a system for NORTH COUNTY ZONES. Site I made is NORTH (says "MU2" to the right). Frequencies entered are 470.325, 350, 375, 525, 550, 575 Modulation is on NFM. Attenuator is ON. Lockout set for UNLOCKED. Hold Time is 2. Band Plan 1 is set for 470.000, step of 12.5khz, Offset is 380. C-Ch only is OFF. Range is 20 Mile. Not getting anything - any thoughts???

Some shirt ideas: "I spent 1200 hours on EMTBravo last year and my cats died of starvation." "I was on EMTBravo over 1200 hours and spent twice that trying to find a life." "Alpha Members - boldly going where no man has gone before. Or woman."

We have one (55B1) and I think every single one of us hates using it. It sits on a Ford F-Super Duty chasis, the ride is bumpy as hell, lifting the patient has actually caused several back injuries to crew, PD and FD personnel. We want to get rid of it in the worst way and hopefully we succeed soon. Additionally, our Medics DESPIZE this ambulance. Here's a photo of it:
-
When I first started driving at 16 I always wore it. Over time I got away from it. In the past few years I really have been doing my best to wear it in the car, the apparatus, the ambulance and as a passenger. It's growing on me everytime I get in a vehicle and hopefully it will become second nature. I do notice that I fail to make sure my crew is belted in the apparatus most of the time, but I working as hard as I can at being better about it. Speaking of belting in when in the back of the rig - our personnel are real good about packing up once we're on the scene instead of while the rig is in motion. I think it's a combination of being safe and because it's a little easier to don the pack outside where you have more room. The concept Phoenix was going with (where the SCBAs were stored in exterior compartments) is something I think will grow on people.

I've seen a unit in our area that is white with white lettering on it.

So the question remains..... WHO IS IN CHARGE? FD or EMS?!
-
1. John Edwards 2. Chris Dodd 3. Joe Biden I don't believe in sticking with a political party, just want someone, anyone, to come in and fix some of the things that are seriously mis-managed. Social Security, Healthcare & Immigation are at the top of my list.

Get well Chief!

Yonkers FD had an incident like this - was in the papers not too long ago.

REAL dispatchers actually snort their antacids....just ask 20Truck! You can add everything ends in "K" to that list. Been a dispatcher in one capacity or another for almost eight years, and sadly 3/4 of that list rings true to me. Thanks for the laughs!
-
Stop 'em at the border and ask them a question - any question. If it doesn't end in "eh" - not a real Canadian!!!!
-
Yeah, but can they tow a shopping cart?!
-
Sounds to me that Vista is being "fiscally responsible" about modernizing their firehouse. Hopefully it works out and they get the addition and renovations they need. Good Luck!
-
We use fiberglass ladders on our 3 Engines - Truck has aluminum ladders. We went to fiberglass when we phaased out the wooden ones. PS - the 35' fiberglass ladder weighs close to 200 pounds....don't try lifting it alone! Otherwise you may leave one, maybe two, of your "jewels" on the ground.
-
And that shot......reality. If you smoke quit now and give yourself a better chance at avoiding all the bad things related to smoking.
-
On our firehouse's forum I moderate we have "Forum Ninjas" for those with the most posts. On here we could just call it the "ALSFirefighter Envy Club."

Gives new meaning to "Casual Friday" doesn't it?!

Great information brothers, thank you. Not to stray too far on the subject, I found the site below which has all kinds of info on hybrids and other AFVs. http://extrication.com/erg.htm

Unless something changed the Eight Hours needed were: Station Safety Response Safety Scene Safety PPE SCBA Tool & Equipment Training General Hazard Recognition New Developments And new members had to get 15 hours worth of training on all of the above except new developments. For the ones boldfaced above, I give them in a powerpoint / lecture which is going to be available to our members online soon. The other topics get covered with hands on training usually in multiple drills during the year. We've pretty much made it impossible for our people not to get their OSHA 8 unless they never come around. Let's face it, some of the material is dry and boring so we have to make it as painless as possible.

In the words of "Borat" - "Pause, not." We've grown quite a bit in the 5+ years I have been here and staffing hasn't changed at all. PS we still make the same money too, seems CSEA and Westchester County can't settle a contract for nearly two years - AGAIN. If I am remembering correctly, since I started we have taken on the dispatching of the following (In the past 5 years). -Armonk FD & EMS -Chappaqua FD -Continenal Village FD (Primary before having Putnam retone). -Mamaroneck Town FD -Mamaroneck Village FD -Mohegan FD -Mount Kisco FD -Pelham Manor FD -Port Chester FD -Rye FD -Rye Brook FD -Pelham ALS -Eastchester EMS -Mohegan VAC It's been a large call increase but we handle it pretty well, I think.
