Correct me if I am wrong, wasn't there a fire here about 7 years ago? I recall coming in Mutual Aid and riding Officer on our old L44 during that period of time when all of the Trucks in our area were OOS and getting replaced... Good stop PFD.

Two cases I remember where all LED light packages were diminished to the point of disappearing in the sun come to mind. A few weeks back, our Paramedic unit was coming up Route 9, and I was heading south. The car - with all LEDs - crested the hill and the sun was on it - all of the lights disappeared from view until it got out of the sun. The other time I recall was also on Route 9. I was coming home from work, and a police unit with all LEDs had a vehicle pulled over. The sun was right on the car, and the only lights you could see were the strobes in the reverse lights. Personally, I am still not sold on doing a 100% LED warning light package.

We have a quint, but it is considered a Tower Ladder and Truck company work is it's primary role. It's nice having an additional pump and hose in case we really need it. A couple of times we've had it arrive first and put the crosslays to use, and only one time I can think of we had the aerial up and two lines in use. I have heard that St. Louis, the home of the "Quint Concept," is getting away from it because guys never know if they're taking up Engine Company or Truck Company duties. Not sure if it's true but I could see that. One run you are an Engine and the next a Truck, so on the way in you're switching up duties for the guys on the rig. One thing I learned taking the Aerial Ops class with Mike Wilbur is that most quints don't have room for all the ground ladders a true Truck carries. Luckily ours has the full compliment.

Apartment buildings with the heaiver steel doors and other buildings with them. I guess I could of been a little more specific... I was trying to say that we don't tend to grab it for private dwellings since they generally have wooden doors.

Our FAST Boss (xchief2x) pretty much hit it. We've got it down to a good science now of what equipment gets pulled from the rig and what stays behind based on the building type and occupancy. Residential Jobs Irons Sledge Hooks TIC QuickVent chain saw K12 w/ wood blade Search ropes Man Down SCBA Commercial Jobs Irons Sledge Hooks TIC Saw w/ metal blade Hydra-Ram Search ropes Man Down SCBA Extra Equipment Carried Holmatro Manually powered Combi-Tool 2 Sawzalls (1 battery powered) Multi-Gas meter EMS / O2 bag AED 3:1 Rope bag Crow bars & Pry bars K-tool Bolt cutters Training Firefighter I (or Equivalents) FF Survival FAST CPR Truck Company Ops Haz-Mat First Responder Confined Space Awareness & Safety Minimum of 2 years Active Membership (Most have over 10 years) Everyone on the team has more then this training, many of which have the equivalent of the Career guys required training (229?). I can't help but wonder if this occurred somewhere other then "Press-Friendly" Sleepy Hollow, would it have made the news?

Thanks. I was looking at the photos and those exposures on the B & D sides we tight, especially the D exposure. I'd like to know more about the attack and the exposure protection, if anyone can share it. I'm a huge buff like that, thanks.

When we got our first TIC, we kept it on R18 along with a 13" TV with built-in VCR. One night while operating at a fire, the truck had an electrical surge, the generator burnt up and most of the electronics fried, including the TV. A new TV has been purchased as well as a DVR unit. The TV purchased is too big (23") so I am looking for a smaller unit to install. Our 2 other TICs are not compatable with this signalling gear, but we're looking into it. Bullard cameras, in case you were wondering. We used to record some calls and some drills, I don't know if the video is still laying around. I am hoping to have it set up for use during our upcoming FAST drill, but who knows.

Did it get into the exposures at all?

I don't think there's many Departments that don't have garden apartment complexes just like this one. Thanks for sharing.

And Westchester County's 1st 2009 Darwin Award nominee is......

I'd be concerned..... that firefighter has no head!

MASS HYSTERIA! Good job!

There's still a couple of agencies in Westchester that are volunteer that cover most of their calls on a first page. Sadly, it's not that many...

Would you question the instructions of wearing a parachute from that manufacturer before jumping out of a plane? Sometimes our comfort is second to doing what we're suppost to do... It's not just about you either. Any firefighter or Officer who chooses not to wear his gear right or do what their rules tell them increase the risk factor to everyone there. If you don't wear your straps the right way and get caught up and call a Mayday, guys are coming to help you. How are you going to feel if those guys get hurt or killed coming to help you simply because you weren't wearing a stupid strap? The same thing goes for those that don't choose to wear their seatbelts. It's not just about you. If you're driving and not wearing your belt, what are the chances you'll stay in your seat and have control of that rig, possibly reducing the amount of damage to the rig and injuries to your brothers, if you start losing control? Nothing we do impacts just one person. Remember that.

I was surprised to hear about this when I came in to work this AM. I hope they re-open soon!

I thought this was about my diet efforts....

Those investigating this incident might want to stop near the TSP south of Route 6 and talk to all of those geese. One of them knows something... Very glad to hear everyone is OK and got out safely.

Sorry guys but I am working this year. Hopefully some of my guys and gals will make it up there.

I say take all the money - wherever it may come from - for this event's security and hire all the nation's law enforcement officers currently out of work. How about that for change! I think I will use that in my Presidential campaign in 12 years...

Great job MKPD, MKFD and MKVAC. Yet another fire caused by careless candle use. When will it stop?

There's no real better way for me to put this - I hate the LOSAP system. It has resulted in more headaches then anything else since we got it. People are almot to the point of putting a sign-in sheet on a casket at a funeral to get their damn point! The real members out there know who they are and the officers know who they are too, and that's all that matters when the pager goes off. All these low-lifes that are in it for the payback can quit and find something else to scam from as far as I am concerned!
