One tool I didn't see mentioned (probably missed it) is your TICs. They'll help you see things you may not with the naked eye. And as the Lt. and Chief have said, get a Tower in a safe position to overlook things, and if need be, put a guy with the TIC up there. In the WC, we may even benefit from calling on WCPD Aviation for their thermal imaging capabilities.

Hate to bring it up again, but what rope / escape systems have you and your departments purchased? Positives / negatives of each is appreciated. Thanks.

Bobcats are around. I wouldn't be surprised if that's actually what these folks saw in thier area. Time to get me a gun.... between the bears, coyotes and large cats seen around here, it may be time...

The Croton Fire Patrol (Rescue 18 & Marine 32) are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. To commemorate this event, we will be hosting a parade in conjunction with the village's annual Summerfest on Sunday, June 7th at 1pm. Invitations (should of) went out to all Westchester and neighboring county fire & EMS agencies. If you didn't receive an invite and/or would like to attend, contact our Department's Administrative Assistant / Deputy Chief Tex Dinkler at crotonfd@optonline.net or call the office (914) 271-2693. Hope to see some of you there!

Should we make a cameo appearance with E119 again this year? We loves our ice cream!

Eat, drink and be merry - but remember too to always be safe. Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Our procedure is to send our Ambulance and the Medic. This of course only happens when the alarm is received by the PD and they don't do a "Check & Advise" on it.

Rumor has it the shootout involved muskets...

Great pics like usual Duddy! Are those 3/4 boots? Wow! The house isn't that odd, we have a lot of them in our district. Mostly in the Quaker Bridge area which, ironically, also lacks hydrants and is very secluded.

"Man, that guy better slow down or he's going to burst into flames on re-entry."

I'm a little confused. If I took the Westchester T&V exam on 11/15/08, can I take this test and get on the Putnam list? Also, if they did a test and are establishing a list from the 11/15 exam, why are they giving it again?

Was up in the Chief's Office today, saw a fax from Westchester County DES that the Technical Rescue Team is now IN SERVICE! Glad to hear it, good luck to those whom have been working on this for a few years now. Kudos to Deputy Commissioner John Jackson for helping push this along and for the acquisition of their Rescue and Collapse rigs.

Those fiberglass I-beam hooks are garbage. Give me a wooden shaft pike pole or the good ol' STEEL NY roof hook anyday!

What's the deal with all of those stripes on the one brother's pants - DEPTH GAUGE? That's some house. Did that moat get used for a water supply?

Andy, that song is permanently stuck in my head. Whenever my father and I were working in the garage or around the house, he used to have PLJ on, and I swear this song and the B-52's "Roam" were on a loop. He stopped listening to it and went to WHUD, I bounce between KRock, Q104 and yes, Z100. As far as I am concerned, K-Rock isn't playing enough new or upcoming band material. I'll stick to surfing the net for the newest and sometimes better stuff, and put it on my Ipod. Why don't we hear more Dropkick Murphys?!

Wait a second.... you mean I can't just throw my waste in the Hudson River and blame it on Indian Point?!

What is WSOTF and what agencies are involved in it?

I think this can almost fall into the same category as EMS people wearing uniforms that make them look like cops. You know the ones, dark blue tactical with the ESU type embroidery on the back. It's almost like painting a target on your back. If you've got some guy whacked out ready to take people down, I don't think it will matter what uniform you're wearing. A lot of people see someone in a uniform - even turnout gear - and assume they're cops. I've been called "Officer" dozens of times, "Paramedic" twice that. People don't know one profession from the next sometimes. Everyone should just wear kevlar...

What's happening with the rig it is replacing?

A couple of points here.... 1. In the one pic, where the two gents are sliding back to shore on the backboard, I hope that the lower guy doesn't beef in the face of the upper guy. 2. It must of been VERY cold up there in Wassaic, everyone turned blue! 3. And it's not a Banana Boat, it was a Banana Hammock. Wait, never mind, that's what ALS wears under his work uniform. Thanks for sharing the pics guys!
