According to News 12 this afternoon, investigators believe it was suspicious in nature.

No, it's not. It's bad enough that we lose brothers each year from heart attacks, collapse, training, responding and returning from calls. Why would we add the chance of hurting one of our own like this? I'm not against parades, but I am strongly opposed to stupid acts like this that can and do result in permanent injury and death to our brothers. In case anyone wants to call me out on it, I saw pictures of guys from my own department putting themselves in dangerous positions and have already expressed my concerns about it to the Chief that was there. I know some of you will think I am over-reacting and even "whining" but I am not. I vowed to my people when they elected me to do everything I can to ensure we all go home, everytime. I consider all of you in other departments as brother (and sister) firefighters so I wish you all make it home safe every single time. Be smart, you owe it to yourself, your brothers and your loved ones!

Which one of the guys came after you? Why do all of them have a look of anger? Were you also wearing a red coat?! Are you a Crypt?!

Happy Fathers Day to you all, especially my own - xchief2x!

It's a SWAT unit as far as I know. I don't think PPD dabbles much in any other ESU stuff.

Not speaking of this incident since I know nothing about it, but how important is it to get that aerial to the roof if it's a 1 1/2 story or 2 story private dwelling? Can't a lot of the venting be accomplished horizontally by window, gable vents or making openings in the exterior walls? Also, like others mentioned, using a portable ladder may be sufficient too. I know in our response area Truck placement is a science with all of the trees, wires, long driveways, etc. impeding our aerial access, so we make due with what we can use. As for putting the jacks down on the grass, that's a careful decision that needs to be evaluated well. What will be gained by placing the Truck on the grass that can not be accomplished from portable ladders and/or the ground with a longer hook? If the ground is frozen, say in mid-January, it may be strong and rigid enough to work with, it's all a matter of risk vs. benefit to me.

It was probably cheaper then Match.com...

May we all learn from that tragic event and honor not only them, but all of those that have given their lives. Honor each fallen brother's life everyday when you put on your gear and answer the call.

The disconnected AC drain was also a problem with our 2006 Engine. Overall I think the rig was built strong, just a couple of minor things that can be chalked up as human error. Reminds me of the old saying that you never wanted to buy a GM product built on a Friday!

Heartfelt condolences to the Kinscherf Family and the North Madison FD from the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. John Munson 2nd Asst. Chief Croton-on-Hudson NY Fire Dept.

I'm still waiting for a community to start billing an owner for the water needed to put out a fire... If it is a legitimate accident, I don't know if billing someone is the right thing to do, however if someone is reckless, careless or negligent which causes a fire or an accident, then by all means go ahead and make them pay for their actions. If someone is found guilty of the same which results in the death of a firefghter and can get jail time, why not enforce insurance billing and / or fines.... perhaps people will take some more responsibility.

We started using 60 Control last October after being dispatched by our PD forever. Overall it has had many advantages, as promised, despite a couple of minor growing pains that have been worked out, just like anything else new. Also, Vista is on Fire 13. If I remember correctly, South Salem FD has a link from Fire 13 to a low band frequency so members can hear what's going on right on their pagers. Similar things have been done in Katonah and Yorktown...and maybe soon in Croton. As far as Policies changing - that's not much of a point to make. Emergency services are always adapting to the changes in our environment, so updating policies to stay with the changing times seems OK to me.

But their thumbs are strong as hell!
