  1. I was going to say driver, but someone would of corrected me for that too! It's a no win situation for me!
  2. For all of the incident photos I have ever taken, I never publish a victim's face, a license plate # or anyone's face that isn't a part of the organization(s) involved. I've gone as far as blurring out the faces of undercover cops who were assisting other officers at incidents, just to keep them "anonymous." I also try to avoid showing body bags, blankets covering a body and blood. There's really no reason to show this, in my opinion. It's tasteless.
  3. I have a secret love of Trucks and setting them up, and like to learn as much about positioning it as possible. Thanks in advance for any info. 1. Was this done by way of using an Auto-Level or did the Chauffer do it the "old fashion" way? 2. Was the right rear outrigger on the sidewalk, and if so, did it crack or collapse at all? Good job to the Truck Chauffer!

  8. One of the guys in our FD called Human Resources today and was told mid-August.
  9. I've always felt that the "best" pizza is hard to judge. For pepperoni, it could be one place over another. Same thing for a sicilian slice. It's gotta have a crisp, thin crust, not too much sauce that it gives you a mouthful of tomato taste, and the cheese makes a big difference. I'd keep elaborating, but now I need a slice!
  10. Um, at least in Westchester, this isn't true. If it was, then most EMS agencies wouldn't have their dispatching done by 60 Control. The biggest problem with PD dispatch and the lack of EMD is staffing. Most PD's have one person at the desk, which just isn't practical for EMD. All of the PD's in Westchester - with a few exceptions - just don't have the personnel to do this, but on the upside of it, they are able to provide First Aid and/or CPR on arrival, which most often is before EMS gets there. The article in the paper also said something to the effect that WCPD handles 911 calls and EMDs them - another inaccuracy. 911 calls go to their local PD, unless it is cellular then it finds it's way to the TMC who then turns it out to 60 Control for fire and EMS. Sometimes they will send it to the FD / EMS agencies not dispatched by 60 Control. It's nice to see a write up like this, since those of us behind the microphone are usually forgotten! Let's see, fire service consolidation was published a couple of weeks ago, maybe next they can hit on how many PD's need more staffing, better protection (IE tasers) or how EMS is a sinking ship that only some agencies have attempted to "cork..." Hmmmm.........
  11. It says "Auxiliary" on the rear quarter panel - are you sure this is the scheme for regular patrol cars, or did they do something different for the Auxilaries?
  12. Sadly, ever since STAT became part of this LifeNet group, the whole, original concept of "saving lives" went out the window in order to make more money. I remember how Air 1 and Air 2 could be pulled from a transport job for a scene job - but this doesn't happen anymore. Talking with pilots, Medics and other former WestComm dispatchers like me, we've all noticed that it became more about the money then the patients - and it is very sad. I hope this doesn't happen, but I am sure it will. Hopefully all of the great pilots and crew members are able to find work quickly and don't suffer financially from this poor choice.
  13. Seth, I think they still refer to it as TL5. Did this get used at the fire the other night?
  14. I like it. Nice, clean, sharp.
  15. Not knowing all of the facts and information on this specific incident, I wouldn't question the decision made for the flyout. Knowing Somers and where this incident was, and the potential response time for the ambulance, the bird might be the right choice. Assuming..... First unit on scene requests the chopper, and that chopper has an ETA of 15-20 minutes. If the ambulance takes 10 minutes just to get there, not factoring in the time to get out the door, the time to package and perform the medic's job working the patient, by the time they are loaded into the bus, the bird can already be on the ground. I don't see an issue with that. As long as transport isn't delayed awaiting advanced care (Medics, Helo, etc.) then I never see an issue with using that invaluable resource. I'm of the old school train of thought that if we are loaded and the Medic isn't there, or if our Medic is on board and the chopper isn't already on scene, GO TO THE E.D.! Somers has a lot of windy, dark and unusual roadways, so the drive time can be a lot longer then what everyone assumes based on their own experiences of driving on the main roads. 10570, if the ambulance is on scene with ALS almost right away, that's one thing. But I doubt the ambulance was on scene in less then five minutes - that rarely happens anywhere.

  19. Photos from the WaterCrest website: Doesn't look like the worst idea ever. $600 vs. the amount of sore backs and actual back injuries from two member crews carrying people up and down stairs all the time may be a wise investment. By the way, is it me or does the woman strapped to that thing look less then comfortable?!
