  1. Me likey! Good luck with it MFD and 2273. One question, how come there's no Trunked radio in the back (my guess is the cost of the extra head)?
  2. I don't see anything wrong in this picture. A FF is doing an occupancy check, a nice young lady thanks him with a kiss. Are you going to start criticizing every cop and fireman that gets a thank you? It's nothing more then a handshake if you ask me. Only better! Please. Now, if he was doing a shot off of her.... that's a different (and cooler ) story.
  3. It does say Ossining but I can't make out what it says on the door or the nose in that maltese.
  4. If the suspect crossed the street, they would of been in Mount Pleasant, right? Crazy stuff, a lot of people, including my Mom, go to WCC.
  5. Is this thing on?

  7. Get well soon, FF Kanych. You're in our prayers!
  8. Get well soon, Lieutenant. You're in our prayers!
  9. I don't get it, personally. Every time I have ever been to a fire scene in Mohegan there's been dozens of personnel there. Most often you see the majority being volunteer with the three or four Career guys on scene, depending on the number of apparatus. Barry, does the 5-6 guys you're talking about have a time frame in which they have to be on location? If that's the case, part of the problem would be the size of the district itself. If the 2nd Due Engine is coming out of Hollowbrook for a fire on the southern end of Croton Avenue, that's got to be a ten plus minute ride. As for the SCBA issue, one can only imagine exactly what the violation is. Facial hair, unit age, upkeep, etc. Like it's been said, how many departments would also find themselves getting fined for similar problems? I am waiting to see the State start knocking on our doors to see who is meeting the Rope Law requirements. I would bet dollars to donuts many departments haven't even done their needs assessments.
  10. On Monday evening, September 28th, the Washington Engine Company No. 2 of the Croton Volunteer Fire Department recognized three members for their long & dedicated service to the Company. As the Department's oldest company (over 117 years young), there have been several members to reach milestones such as 50, 55 and 60 years, but there's never been two members to reach 65 years simultaneously. Receiving recognition were Donald "Tex" Fagan and John Giglio for completing 65 years of service. Both men have been with the CFD since 1944, at which time the membership age was lowered to 16 while many residents were in the Military for World War II. Mr. Fagan previously served as a Lieutenant in the Company, while Mr. Giglio has held many titles, including Lieutenant, Captain, President and his current role of Safety Officer. Company President, Joe Streany, was also recognized (by surprise) with an award, as he has been a member and a mentor in the Washington Engine for 40 years. Mr. Streany has held all Company Officer positions, was a Chief of the Department and currently serves as a Fire Council Warden and Deputy Chief, in addition to his Presidential role. Nearly 70 members, family and guests were on hand for the short service, which the Company conducted quietly, hoping to surprise all three men. (And I think we did!) Congratulations Tex, John and Joe on your great achievements! Photos and more info coming soon to www.engine119.com and www.crotonfd.org.
  11. My sincerest condolences to FF Joyce, his family and brothers in the Yonkers Fire Department. I will also keep the other two men in our prayers as they recover from this horrible incident. May God look down upon all of you, stay strong.
  12. They offer a new microphone that has the capability of having some "hot keys." The key, like most anything else, is practice.
  13. Bail, no matter the amount, should not be an option for this piece of garbage.
  14. In Croton... R18 has an on-board system capable of running two tools simultaneously and carries 1 cutter, 2 spreaders, 2 rams. They also have a portable power unit that can run one tool at a time. (All Hurst) Also carried is a Partner saw w/ metal abrasion blade, 2 battery powered Dewalt reciprocating saws and a Milwaukee electric Sawzall. E120 has a portable system capable of running one tool, and carries a combi-tool. (Hurst) They also have 1 DeWalt battery-powered reciprocating saw. E118 & E119 carry the Holmatro HCT3120 Manually-powered combi-tools. Both of these Engines also have Partner saws with metal abrasion blades and two sawzalls. Newer / upgraded equipment is being explored. On a side note, Hurst is still running their promotion where you buy certain spreaders, cutters and hose, you can get a power unit for free. 19. God help us. I hope we can come out of this OK and do so sooner then later.
  20. I think they're looking for a hanging name patch for a turnout coat, not embroidery. If that's the case, AAA or MES, depending on the make of the coat.
  21. There's also theories that, when possible, your FAST / RIT should be from another Company or Department simply because they probably won't have as much personal history with those that may (GOD FORBID) transmit the MAYDAY, unlike that member or crew's own FD. I can see the logic of it, but at the same time I don't think it matters to most of us, since we're all brothers. Our SOG is that, at minimum, we designate two members to act as a FAST / RIT until the Mutual Aid unit arrives. While I know we always have personnel ready, willing and able to address this task each time, there's no formal designation of a team nor are they set aside for that task, they're usually doing other outside operations. I personally would like to dedicate my third due Engine to this task, assuming the manpower can be designated for this assignment. If need be we can add the Montrose VA and their 2-3 member RIT to the box until the "larger" team from Ossining (or next due) gets there. I've called the VA once for this task so far and will do it again if need be.
  22. Vergo, good topic! Every department has the ability to set up their responses as they want them. As xchief2x said, we have made modifications to our assignments to better respond to a possible structure fire in our non-hydrant areas. Our initial response to the non-hydrants parts of our district are a full assignment from us (3 Engines, 1 Quint, 1 Tanker, 1 Rescue) and two additional Tankers (Millwood and Yorktown). On a confirmed fire in these areas, two more Tankers are sent, a FAST, Cascade Unit, EMS and an additional Engine (MA) to set up a fill site (or 2nd one if needed). As far as putting a FAST on an initial dispatch, it's been considered, however since a "Structure Fire" dispatch can be for a microwave or an oven fire, we haven't done it yet for fear of taxing our neighboring FAST. It is, however, still on the possibility list. There's no reason, IMHO, an IC or responding Officer can't get on the radio and ask for additional resources / upgrade an assignment based on dispatch info, updates, known issues, anticipated manpower needs, etc.
  23. Sick. I am surprised the dog didn't get killed, like the article said anti-freeze has a sweet taste to it and appeals to dogs. When I used to deliver tires years ago, one of the garages we stopped at had a dog, and that dog drank some anti-freeze and died fairly quickly. Sad, I hate hearing of animal abuse.
  24. Just an FYI... News 12 is WAY OFF. There was no attic fire nor fire on the first floor. There also was no collapse. Bush on fire, caught some sophet on fire, crews kept it from taking the building. Good job by the guys and gals of CFD. Silly reporters, LOL.
