First of all - I want it to be known I am not attempting to start a war of any kind. Secondly, my thoughts are my own and have no reflection on any affiliation (past or present) I have. Disclaimers out of the way, my question is this: Would it be wiser to take the money given to Westchester EMS for dispatching services and put it towards part-time or even full-time EMT/Driver coverage, and use an alternate means of dispatching, such as 60 Control? I remember working as an SFD Dispatcher years ago prior to the WEMS "take over," and call coverage was still an issue (like everywhere else). If the money given to WEMS for dispatch was redirected to EMT coverage, wouldn't that be more beneficial to the residents of Somers, rather then paying for what is basically a "free" service offered by 60 Control? Again, I am not advocating one way or the other, but has this option ever been explored? Glad to see Somers recognizing an issue and working on it. I wish other agencies would do the same thing, instead of pawning off large numbers of their calls to Mutual Aid.

Look at the gas prices!!!! Don't miss that!

It's not 69B4?! Good luck Putnam Valley VAC, and thanks for coming into Westchester for Mutual Aid as often as you do!

I sat in on Mickey Conboy's seminar in Rockland a couple of weeks ago, and he mentioned that experiments showed that our gear weighs around 80 pounds when soaking wet. Can you imagine how hard it would be to try and swim in it? In May we reviewed turnout gear buoyancy / safety in immersions during our Water Rescue class. Good info. Great post, thanks for bringing it up!

Wow. Correct me if I am wrong, but you served as a Junior Member in your FD, right? You mean to tell me that your FD never had you, or other Junior Members, assist with the more mundane activities, such as traffic control or searching for missing persons? Did you feel that your Chiefs are "Brutal Dictators?" The fact that you feel Police Explorer programs are even comparable to a fictional book or one of the most evil people in history makes me concerned. You are not clearly seeing the major differences between a militia force driven by a sole purpose vs. a group of volunteers helping their community. What is "terrifying" is that you compare a law enforcement Explorer program (similar in purpose to that of FDs and EMS) to NAZI PROGRAMS. As far as your political view of the direction our country is going, that's your opinion that you're entitled to. Thank democracy for that, and thank those that volunteer to serve our country for preserving our rights to democracy. To all Explorers, in Emergency services and public safety, keep up the great work and proud tradition of being a member of your community.

It would apply to Paramedics, right? Different MACs?

We've equipped all three of our Engine Companies with a TIC. The Officer is to take the TIC inside for all calls, even if it isn't needed, to make it a habit. We were denied the TIC for our Truck this year, hopefully we can get it next year. One thing worth reminding others of is the value of a 360 recon. You may not see anything to inidicate a basement fire from the front, but side or rear windows to the basement could tell you more of what's going on. Look for windows, Bilco doors and you can even take a quick peak for dryer vents to see if smoke is coming from them. Firehouse.com story

You mean CMEs won't be given out for watching this show? Damn!

At the risk of stirring some poo-poo, can PCFD use E14, leaving L30 for the RBFD guys to use? And honestly, do you really want to go out in the rain?
-
Correct sir! The Support Services Building at the Fire Training Center is home to E7, L7, R77, U77, FC1 & HM1.

I've seen L28, anyone have photos of E54?

I laughed at the end of the game when Jeter was getting interviewed and they were bringing up that their last series appearance was 2003 and the last win was in 2000, and Jeter said, "Thanks for bringing up the negative." Let's go Yankees!

He probably didn't see the car. Like most guys know, his wife was probably standing in front of him BLOCKING HIS VIEW!!!!!

The money for a "Car" is being used towards the purchase of the new ambulance, with the stipulation that the money for said car will be resubmitted within five years. From what I understand, and I am hopeful is what will happen, once we get the new ambulance our old one will go to CPD to replace the late 80's unit they have for their Dive Team, Tactical Team & Accident Investigation Unit. Hopefully FDVA356 can provide more on this tomorrow (or tonight if his little one wakes him up LOL).

Negative. Mount Kisco got a better offer then what our village wanted to make, and sold the rig to another outfit upstate. The good news is that the village has approved the purchase of a brand new rig, which should be out to bid very soon. The purchase of the new ambulance was approved at the October 5th Village Board meeting.

This is a good idea and if I recall correctly, it started last year with Katonah FD. Nicely done "other" CFD!
