EMD is great, if I'm not doing it. It's a process that in some cases delays dispatch - in my opinion. But enough about that, what about the use and abuse of ALS in Westchester. Got no EMT? ALS will handle! Got an inexperienced EMT? ALS will handle! Need help lifting? ALS will handle! With ALS (Not meaning "A Lazy Solution) being sent all over the county for calls they are not needed on, we run the risk of not having ALS there when we truly need them. Sorry folks, I had to complain - it has been weeks since I did.... #-o

The Field Comm unit had a little fire in it. It appears to have been minor, and is awaiting repairs. That's the word I am hearing.....
-
It was minor - nothing drastic as far as I know. As we hear more, we'll pass it along.

This show made me laugh, made me cry, and made me ignore the phone at work for an hour!!! I was especially thrilled to see that plenty of curse words were used - I F---ing loved it! All kidding aside, I think it was a good show, and will make every effort to watch it week after week. 630 and I enjoyed it - so did 602.

Congrats YHFD!!! Will this rig also be painted red? With luck, a certain Department to your west may also see a Seagrave engine in 2005. [-o<

The first time I saw it was like a year ago, and I was a little drunk. Needless to say, I summoned my Designated Driver and we had to go to the diner and get fries and a shake. Funny show - but like most of the others out there I always forget when its on......

With rearmounts, you have the stick and/or bucket hanging over your front end, which reduces visibility. If you have to squeeze the rig into a tight spot and don't have much room to spin the turntable around, you can nose in and throw the stick up. With midmounts, the ladder hangs off the rear-end. Our old L44 was a middy, and the overhang on the back-end made it a little tougher to make some tight turns - especially around the dummy light when cars parked in the intersection. There's other advantages / disadvantages, and I am sure others will bring them up.

What is Buchanan's SOP for aerial ops? Just kidding, Swankie!

In a perfect world, 46.26 would remain as a dispatch only channel, but perfect is a long, long ride from Westchester. I have noticed many more departments switch to alternate fireground channels - whether it is low-band, high-band, UHF, FRS, walkie-talkie, CB - and Thank GOD! I think now with the addition of the UHF Fireground radio channels, each department should create an SOP / SOG that lays down a plan for all incidents. I know that in Croton, we are in the process of a UHF conversion, and once it is in place, we will dispatch on 46.26, and operate on UHF from there. Luckily, departments like Peekskill, Yorktown, Mohegan, Somers, Bedford Hills, and many others, have begun to utilize the uhf radios, which - in case you didn't know - work better! Stay safe out there!

A lot of good points. I personally think that anytime you leave your own district to attend a parade, funeral or whatever, you should not be in service to answer alarms of minor nature. For example, my FD was at a recent parade, and due to a mishap either on the PD or our Chiefs, they left my engine in service - and never told me or my crew! We had to run about a 1/4 mile to the rig, drive through the crowd, report to the firehouse to get GEAR, then go to the scene! It was unneccessary, and we shouldn't have been assigned to this run. Whats worse, everyone and their brother was watching us go through two towns - for what turned out to be nothing! PREPLANNING - there's that damn word again - needs to be done! If you take apparatus out of town, take them out of service, and come up with a coverage plan! Like Hudson said, its only a matter of time before a stupid move like this causes an innocent bystander an injury or worse.

Congrats to all. And for the record, Daday does a good job, I think he gave a ticket to a friend of mine recently.... As long as it wasn't me, thats A-OK.

I know Ossining still has a box system too. We did until 1998 or 1999, when we decided to modernize our system. It would of been a better system if the desk officer was more proficient in which apparatus went on what assignments.

An agility test was given 6/19/04 - and from what I understand, those that completed it have to complete it again, because one or two of the stations were not available that day. So the poor guys and gals that finished it - or they thought - have to finish another station or two...... ](*,)

X635 - believe it is TL14 And L43. You haven't been gone from Control THAT LONG! #-o

Being the team player that I am, if I learn how to juggle and "fatten" up - I'll do it!

I'm glad to see that Mike is still in many people's hearts. I know that for me and many other members of my / his family, we think of him every single day. From great losses can come great gains. What I have learned from his death is that any fire we go to, could be our last. He has motivated me to be a better leader, better firefighter, and hopefully, a better instructor. Its so sad that in our industry, we have to suffer great loss to achieve our gains. I hope none of us ever have to deal with that pain and heartache. Let's remember to look out for one another - run after run. Happy July 4th brothers and sisters!

MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's my answer....

I believe it is 154.340 - the EFD House Alert Freq.

Eastchester EMS recently became one of 60 Control's primary dispatch agencies. The EMS and Fire are "toned out" on the Eastchester VHF. Voice is simulcast on VHF and UHF. All communications are done on the UHF. Seems to be working fine.

Ok its not just over the bridge, but its worth the ride. The Middletown Township Fire Training Center is incredible. There is a residential burn building (Class A), flashover simulator, smoke building, car fire pad, roof simulator and other great props. We just went their recently, and already plan on making the trip several more times. It gave my senior guys the chance to sharpen their skills, and the newer gang a chance to experience real heat, smoke and fire. If you are interested in more info, I will get it for you!
