I thought you guys were going with another striaght stick....

Not much different then the stuff they show on NYPD Blue. I find it more disturbing to watch that show "the swan," where they alter humans - HELLO - something's wrong here!
-
You were just thinking about Croton - like you usually do. It's OK to admit it - you wanna be DAVE!!!! ](*,)

It was White Plains. I remember because Engine 119 won the "Best Engine/Pumper" trophy. Needless to say it shocked the $hit out of all of us! But, she's still not good enough for the Local "Judges."

Medics get sick?! Just kidding. Feel better pal. And if there's anything that I can do to help out - you know how to get a hold of me. Just don't get me sick - I'd be forced to drop you like a bad habit. FOSHEEZY!

Thanks for the feedback! To me, if there is no agreeing on what a term means - why are we using it? It's only going to provide for confusion. Same thing goes for 10-codes - why have them? They just cause more confusion. How about this. You are the IC and you pull up on a working fire. Why not say "Command to all units, we have a working fire." And while you're at it, why not give a size-up and an estimated amount of the building involved in the fire? For example - "Command to all units, we have a working fire in a 75x75 2 1/2 story ordinary construction building, with fire on the 2nd floor, A/B side." Wouldn't that suffice?

Thanks fellas!!!

#36? You use the term "10-75" at least 3 times a day. #37? You use the term "transmit" at least 50 times per day. #38? A "second alarm" doesn't just apply to a fire, but a hot meal, a hot chick/guy, or even your most recent bowel movement. (And yes, I have heard all of these, and used them once or twice as well.) ](*,)

The sensitivity is computer programmable. We had to do it to our III's which helped a little. I'm also a member of Cortlandt VAC - the first Minitor III I was given there never, EVER worked. It wasn't until I had a II that I realized I was missing so many calls.
-
Of course! As soon as we see it and take some shots of it - I will post them here. I just wouldn't expect anything for at least 6 months....
-
On the Minitor III & IV you can adjust the reception sensitivity. We recently have journeyed down the path of pager headaches galore. Our tones were an "older" type, apparently the "A-tone" was set at too high a frequency so the newer pagers weren't working with it. Thus, the new tones. The Minitor III's earned more dislike then any other piece of equipment I've seen since I joined. The guys were constantly complaining that they never went off, the knobs fell off, and the volume didn't get high enough. Currently, our Chiefs are slowly phasing out the Minitor II and even the Minitor III - its to my understanding 90-95% of our Minitor III's have had to be repaired already during their short lifespans. Go back to the Sonar Pagers of Shinwas!!!!!!

Congrats to EMTBravo.com - you were chosen to be our "November Site of the Month." Check it out - its towards the bottom of the home page. www.engine119croton.org

As a rule of thumb, we clean the masks after every use. The packs are checked weekly, and after each use. If they need to be cleaned, they are. We generally use the wipes after each use, and that Scott cleaner after long-time use. Now, if only someone could create a battery that lasts more then a few months for the PAS alarms, then I would be happy.

If all goes according to plan, I am told we could see our new rig by Christmas 2005. Now, if we could get the damn tanker back, we'd be in good shape. (But that's a whole different story.)

I wrote in EMTBravo for President. Good luck!

"Do you think this guy really deserves to loose his pension?" YES!

It's finally official. =D> =D> =D> The Village of Croton has agreed to award the contract to Seagrave (Excelsior Fire Equipment) as of November 8, 2004. Seagrave was the only bidder for the new Engine 119 replacement, coming in with a bid of $478,676.00. My thanks to the committee, your hardwork will pay off!

Date: Incident 10/31 Written 11/1 Times: Disp@17:30 / Clear@18:15 / Written@10:05 Location: Croton Fire / Elmore Avenue (Cross of Darby) Frequency: 46.26 / 46.04 Units Operating: 2081, E118 Description Of Incident: When returning from another alarm, E118 was special called by 2081 for a Public Assist. Units arrived to find an unusual incident at hand. The homeowner's dog was laying atop an older cast iron radiator, and during the excitement of all the "trick or treaters" got her paw and leg stuck in the radiator. The dog was laying on the floor, and her leg was pinned between 2 coils of the radiator. The crew of E118 used the Holmatro Hand-Powered Combi-Tool, 2 Halligans and a ratchet to free the dog. The homeowners transported their Canine Companion to an area Animal Hospital for treatment. Overall, the crew on scene did an excellent job, and the homeowners and dog were grateful. =D> =D> Writer: Me (CFD 119-1)

You would think with such a high demand for the FF 1 series in Westchester, that the OFPC may look into providing the County with some additional funding to meet or come close to meeting the demands. We can get all kinds of money for WMD training, but we need to have the "basics" before we can move on.... By the way, the class enrollment limits SUCK! Its too bad they can't beef it up to 24-30 students. WCDES Training and the CFIs are doing a great job, but keeping up with new standards is never easy...

The best way for an EMS system to work is to hire quality employees, have strict SOPs, have a comprehensive and WORKING QA/QI program, training that works and more importantly, proper pay, benefits and work environments. I belong to a Fire Dept. EMS system - and in no way do I feel it is run well, because it is the bastard child of our service. I also belong to a VAC - and a great one at that. We have a great training program, decent personnel and the environment we are in is a welcoming one that makes us proud to be members. But, in terms of overall service, I think EMS should be staffed 24/7 to meet the needs of the community. Volunteering is great and I love doing it and will always do it, but how often do we all hear "2nd page" or "3rd page" or even "mutual aid" for EMS calls? TOO OFTEN! If employing people to ensure full time coverage is needed - DO IT! Look beyond your tradition of volunteering - and absorb the concept that serving your public is of the utmost importance! If you can't cover your calls in a reasonable amount of time - to a certain percentage of the calls - then do something!!!!
