  1. That's too bad WAS - your agency seems to be one of the best (if not the best) in Westchester.
  2. It was the way you worded it WAS - I took it in a different context. Glad you clarified that, and I do agree 100%. Sadly, the majority of the commercial services in the area don't hold true to their contracts. I don't believe Springvale has anything in place, but Bethel might. At one point, The VA and the NYS Vets Home had contracts, not sure if they still do.
  3. I hear they're basically Kenwood radios with a few less features. Is this true? As long as they work, it doesn't matter what name is on them.
  4. Our FD uses the same thing basically. We have HT1250, EX600 UHF radios. We have HT750 Low bands. They all seem to work well, just remember to purchase the intrically safe models. And keep them simple, ours are a nightmare!
  5. Sadly, more people show an interest in a film about firefighting then LODDs. Take a look no further then right here at the EMTBravo forums, we had more talk about Ladder 49, Rescue Me and Third Watch then fire service fatalities. It's human nature to show an interest in "cool" things, and to ignore or pay less attention to death. By the way, this wasn't a "knock" to the forums, just making a point.
  6. Better yet, when are they going to strike a contract with an ambulance company that can actual get an ambulance to them in some reasonable amount of time? Same with the VA. I can understand if there is a dire emergency, but a lot of what they call us for isn't exactly life or death. Are you implying that CCVAC has trouble covering these calls? Because if you are, your information and opinion are wrong. CCVAC is one of the better EMS agencies in the area, and rarely request Mutual Aid. They constantly have to cover their neighbors to the north, and from time to time the ones to the south. For a FULLY volunteer outfit handling more than 1,000 calls in 2004, they should be an example to some others in the area that call on them regularly for Mutual Aid.
  7. It's got 5" intakes, but I don't see any 5" on the rig?! And the ladders and suction are in the rear cabinets.
  8. Always have been, and always will be a GIANTS fan. This year they started to show me some potential for next year. Big Blue will be at the "big show" next year, I feel it!!! As for this year, Green Bay and New England. Come on Packers!
  9. Captain 8811 - Dorrie Pappas Lieutenant 8812 - Eric Singer Lieutenant 8813 - Pete Lyon
  10. Now if only Eric could remember he is 8812 now!!! I'll keep reminding him.....
  11. Wait a second!!! Croton's not paid?! Could of fooled the 8,000 residents!
  12. Does this apply to backing the rig in quarters? We have a constant problem of people driving past us as we back our units in to quarters, at all 3 houses!
  13. I decline to make a judgement, only because we ALL know that the press can miss information, lean one-way or another, or plain screw up facts. I don't know all the facts, I don't know the incident, and for that reason, I won't pass judgement. There's not a single person on this board who drives an emergency vehicle that has NEVER gone too fast, tapped someone, or done something dumb. To act like we have halos on our heads is inappropriate. We shouldn't be so fast to form opinions whether someone should "hang or not." We all know that our jobs are difficult, and getting there is half the battle. Adrenaline, sirens, anxious crew members and hundreds of other factors always weigh in. Feel like disagreeing with me? Go for it! I guarantee you have been in similar conditions, and probably will be again, because the human factor outweighs anything else we may know and learn. I have taken EVOC, I am a driver trainer, and I am an avid reader of fire service news and publications. I'll also be the first to admit that I have driven too fast in the past, both ambulances and fire trucks. The one thing I do know - I have no control over what fate lies ahead. I could be as cautious as hell, but something can always go wrong. Never think because we have educated ourselves on how to do "the right thing" that we are exempt from mishappenings!!!
  14. Why not take a truckie or two and put them on the engine to balance out the crews until sufficient relief has arrived? The city is playing a dumb and dangerous game of manpower reduction. I hope a solution is near, but somehow I doubt it. As for the FDMV manpower thing - good point! Take a trip north and over the line to see how difficult it is to do the job with minimal manpower. Politicians shouldn't decide on manpower and equipment issues. It's not their line of work, and it definitely isn't their asses on the line, job after job!!!
  15. Here's a site I have been working on. www.Engine119Croton.org Any suggestions, please let me know!
  16. Another LODD that should never have happened.
  17. I don't see it. I also can never see the hidden images in those "special" pictures. ](*,)

  19. Happy Holidays everyone! Wishing you and yours all the best this holiday season. On behalf of all of us at Washington Engine Co. No. 2, Croton Fire Department - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
  20. We'll talk. In exchange I want some nice Christmas gifts! I too will miss E119. I was 6 when we got it, and I have been riding on it and/or driving it since 1992. I have put more time into her then anything else - no past job experience comments please! However, her replacement will be of the highest caliber in the true Washington Engine tradition.
  21. WHOA! You mean to tell me you got a rig in and put it in service the same day?! How well is everyone trained on it prior to responding with it? I hope you guys didn't rush into it. By the way, good luck with it, GK makes great rigs as I am sure you know already, being the proud owners of 3? now.
  22. Blah Blah Blah, Peekskill FD is the only 100% ALS.... yada yada yada. Go tube someone!!!! In all seriousness, the PFD medics are one of the best (if not the best) medic agencies I've worked with over the years. Some "agencies" lack in certain areas, although the medics in them have been great. ALS, we both worked for one of them.....enough said.
