Any idea how I can post photos and images on my website so they will appear / upload quicker? I am researching this, but thought someone here may have some insight. Thanks! www.engine119croton.org

Wait a second, they can do more?! Because I know quite a few Paramedics that "BLS" everything unless it requires an intubation.

Job perk? Fringe Benefit? Any other opinions?

At one point, Cortlandt VAC had 2 4x4 rigs, 88B1 and 88B2. The last 2 we purchased, 88B1 & our first ever 88B3 are not 4x4. I like them, but they didn't have the best ride out there. As for our (Croton's) 55-Beast-1, it is sitting on a Ford F-super duty chasis, and rides like it has square wheels.

I think a Truck in the Bronx adorns one that once worked around my area..... :-k

I disagree. EMD gives you the capability to deliver a baby over the phone, it gives you the chance to acquire information that may be vital for the responding EMS units, and, from personal experience, I have found that the original problem the caller stated is far more complex by my "interrogating." How you choose to respond is up to each responder. 60 Control may get a call from a local PD saying "unknown medical" and the bus and medic go "no lights, no sirens." This "unknown medical" could be a major emergency, that if someone took the time to EMD, they may have known more information. Believe me, I hated EMD even when I worked in Somers. But it does work, and it has many benefits that too many communities in Westchester are robbing their public of!

I hear that!!!

One word sums up if EMD is "worth it." YES!

Amen brother, Amen!

Not to mention the metro helmets..... they may not be wrong but they are GHETTO!!!

Nice layout. I've also seen the rigs you've helped construct in the area and I am quite impressed. Good luck with the business!

From Firehouse.com The Fire Department vowed to spend $10 million on safety training and equipment after two of New York's Bravest were forced to leap to their deaths from a burning building last month. The cash will go toward ropes, harnesses and training to "provide every firefighter on the job with the equipment they need," said Fire Department Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta at a promotion yesterday for 35 FDNY veterans. The department was roundly criticized after six firefighters — who had been battling a ferocious blaze in The Bronx — were faced with a grim choice of either leaping from a four-story window or burning to death. The jump killed FDNY Lt. Curtis Meyran and Firefighter John Bellew and four others suffered serious injuries. Typical administrative move - wait for the tragedy, then do what you can to prevent a reoccurance. I hate it when people have to get hurt or killed before the importance of safety equipment is realized. Fire Chiefs and those pushing for new, safer equipment aren't doing it just to kill time, they are doing it for a reason!!!

I thought "bad-mouthing" and "agency bashing" was not allowed on these forums?

Exterior firefighters should wear coats with a big "X" on it, that would solve that issue. Plus, if it's on a big enough member, you can utilize their coat as a helicpoter landing pad... Hey, I'm always thinking.....

Just a thought.... Is it possible that in older firehouses with poor venting systems, that the diesel exhaust may be contributing to the increasing heart attacks in the fire service?

I hate when I break my "kneck." Any CFD guys remember the "minor" MVA we had a couple years ago, when to everyone's surprise it was a fatal gun-shot wound on Route 9? If memory serves, this was a PD "check and advise." How about the FATAL head-on in October of 2003, when an ambulance only was sent first.... Perhaps a subject "trapped under a car" only warrants an Ambulance. Two thumbs up in my opinion!!!!! I would send PD, EMS, FD as a minimum to any unconfirmed MVA involving a roll-over, multiple cars or multiple calls. Pd usually gets there fast enough to determine if EMS and/or FD is warranted.

George, Our repeater no longer will switch off of 46.26. The folks doing the work on our system resolved this issue. If it does "flip," please let me know.

WRONG....... Gerry (Dad) went out of office at Midnight. His successor was the Chief for this call. Hint: He's an "academic" kind of guy.

Finally, someone else sides with me on this!!!!! I'd rather see the old "Where's the beef?" commercials 20 times a day...

Low-Band Channels in Westchester that I have heard Departments use over the years. 46.26 46.14 46.42 46.30 46.48 46.22 46.04 46.06 Why does everyone need 60 Control to hold their hand and tell them to switch? A smart IC would make this choice themself. An even smarter Department would create an SOP stating that once on scene, everyone comes off 46.26. If you keep getting stepped on, why do you think your "speaking up" is solving the problem? So many Westchester Departments have their own frequencies now. Why don't they switch to them? Use the Fireground channels too!!!! Personal opinion - not a reflection of any outfit I am affiliated with!

On April 16, 1988 the Croton Fire Department had a triple-fatal structure fire. Can you name the Incident Commander of this terrible blaze?

DMA - does 100 Truesdale ring a bell? Good thing the CPD was on the ball that day....NOT! Our alarm response is Engine, Tower, Rescue. PD Desk Idiot, er, Sergeant, sent only an Engine. Once they got an update from 60 Control of a possible fire, they toned out again, for ONLY AN ENGINE! Shortly after that the smarter members of the CFD manned the remaining CFD units. On this same exact day, Montrose had a working fire that came in as a residential alarm. Treat them all as "something," until you prove otherwise!
