  1. I have a question that is kind of related......hope I'm not "hijacking" this thread. Would buying a single axle rear-steer unit help? I know that tillers require a 2nd driver, but sometimes that's not possible. Any real truck drivers or people-in-the-know that can shed some light on this?
  2. Bump. This is coming up in less than two weeks!!!!
  3. Speaking of paintball..... The gang from Croton's Washington Engine are planning on playing some paintball this weekend in Lake George. If I can gather some info from "chris" about a potential game, I'll be more then happy to pass it along.
  4. Can't tell...... Is that guy the "fluffer?"
  5. I hear it is making appearances in certain films.... Any truths? If so, I'd like to see it.
  6. I believe L37 is a rear mounted E-One straight-stick. Similar to L42 from Ossining. Colors are interesting, how did you guys come up with this color-scheme? Best of luck with it, I hope you get your money's worth.
  7. PDT_Armataz_23 Well put!!!!
  8. Volunteer or CAREER right? Acting like an a$$hole whether you are paid or not makes the whole service look bad, and you look completly unprofessional. Remember how many of the FDNY guys got their nuts squeezed for their mistakes a year ago? With a service with over 1 million members, its likely that a few bad eggs will appear. Paid or not, you should always conduct yourself in a professional manner! Oh, and bars in the firehouse, not a good idea.
  9. There's nothing wrong with verifying your run. I just don't care for the things I mentioned earlier. I agree with Mike, repeating the whole damn thing for each unit that responds is absurd. If you really aren't sure, pick up a phone and call dispatch. In our FD we used to always landline the CPD to verify the run. But now that we have better pagers and a better tower (most of the time) we know where we're going before we respond the rig.
  10. ALS never has pants on. If he did, then nobody would see the quality of his leg-waxing skills. I, on the other hand, wear pants on 90% of EMS calls, simply because my legs are whiter then a roll of gauze and they frighten the children.
  11. I'm not a smart man, but it sounds to me like someone was out to screw Joe. I hope the truth comes out and this whole issue gets put to bed. Remember, ALL OF US, we need to know facts before we jump the gun and make accusations. The press isn't always correct, nor are they fair when publishing stories. Many times come to mind when a story is one-sided. We shouldn't be so quick to jump down someone's throat. I hope the truth comes out and Joe McCarthy did nothing wrong, and if he did, then justice is given accordingly.
  12. That was a joke! You'd think more people would of came out. But it becomes more and more obvious to me each year that our community could care less about us. How many of our Village residents have actually joined the Department in the last couple of years? Out of the last 5 that joined our Company, only one is from the Village, and that's because she still lives at home. Not to mention that most of the businesses in our community didn't want to donate anything to us either. Mad love from our peers.....NOT!
  13. You can pretty much pack-up your 5" with 3-4 people. It won't be "parade packed," but it will be on the rig where it belongs.
  14. Ferg & Ferg are right, Sundays suck! I would like to see us have a parade on a Wednesday night, from 5 Corners to the Train Station - or something like that. I miss when we were kids and parades came down the Blvd. And, because I hate judged parades, we should do Summerfest for the community - and let the guys blow the sirens and have a blast! Leave the judging (if any) to the Wednesday night parade!!!
  15. Chief, I think your pals at SSI / Rescuestuff can accomodate you. The Magellan units are great, we have them at Cortlandt VAC and hopefully we'll have it on E119 one of these days. PM me if you need more info.
  16. Nappoli's is GREAT! I like cheese steak pizza too, Capriccio II has a good one. I had a pizza in Seaside , NJ once with chicken, ham, smoked mozzarella, mushrooms on it. I believe they called it a Cordon Bleu slice. Instead of tomato sauce there was a brown wine/ mushroom sauce - pretty good. I once had pizza with hot dogs and beans on it. I made it myself. And, for the record, don't try this at home. :chew:
  17. Professionals and Volunteers don't march together? First off, it's CAREER. Secondly, many CAREER firefighters participate in many parades. I know that in Peekskill you see both the Volunteers and Career guys participating in City Parades. As for going out of town, probably a cost thing or a lack of invitation from the neighboring volunteers who refuse to be "professional" and invite everyone - without discrimination by paycheck! Lastly, who cares who shows up where? Parades are far too competitive anymore. Bring back the fun - eliminate trophies and go do it for the people!
  18. What happened? Thoughts & prayers with the Officer and his family.
  19. We're using all sorts of Scotts these days. We have the older 4.5 with the integrated PASS alarms. We also have the newer retro-fits with the HUD and buddy-breathers. I think the Chiefs may have the NXG2(?) Love the Scotts!!! Simple to use, simple to maintain, and they're not too heavy or bulky to wear.
  20. Too many of you are discussing the archaic ten codes that only plague our services!!! Use clear-text dammit! Things I hate. (First, a disclaimer. All of my comments that are listed above and below this statement are my personal opinions, and do not reflect any agencies I am affiliated with, work for or just plain hate. With that said...) "COTTON 95B1 is responding." There's only ONE 95B1 in Westchester County. Just say "95B1." "Car 3390 to 60 Control, be advised I am in service and responding." If you're "responding," you are in service. And, by keying up that mike and telling Dispatch your message, they are ADVISED! "KFP 437 Cotton Police to all members of the Cotton Fire Department, KFP 437 Cotton Police to all members of the Cotton Fire Department....blah, blah, blah." You need only to say the damn call sign ONCE! Stop wasting our time - I hate that $hit!!! "Engine 9999 to Dispatch, we are 10-40." Guess what?! Nobody really cares if you are back in station. If it is one of those "shared rig" deals, use the phone. I believe ALS can agree on this one. (When he remembers to call). Announcements in the middle of a storm or other busy air-time. I, for one, think all radio announcements are old-school. With E-mail, snail mail, phones, blackberries, bat-signals, etc. we can get the word out about that "truck wash" some other way then the radio. Radio transmissions that are not thought out before keying up that mic. ARRRGGHHHHHH!!!!! Parade activity on the radio - especially 46.26. I won't say who is guilty of this ( :-k ) but I was at a parade this past week(end?) and Chiefs were talking all over 46.26 when I KNOW FOR FACT that they (we?) have our own channels?! COME ON GUYS!!! Until next time, keep 'em simple, keep 'em short, and for the love of spaghetti, Keep 'em limited to only important communications.
  21. They're all, for the most part, constructed the same way. Take any rig, say at 60 mph, and "rub" against a tree. Then we will have some data!
  22. Good site. Been a forums member for almost two years. Crawford is a great instructor too, sat through one of his seminars a couple years ago, and he has provided me with some feedback over the years as well.
  23. Here's a dumb question... Does anyone bother to invite them to anything? Maybe that's why you never see them.
  24. Trophies I recall.... Best Overall - Ossining Best Regulation - Verplanck Best Dress - Buchanan Best Engine - Putnam Valley Best Aerial - East Fishkill Best Rescue - Ossining Best Chiefs Car - Putnam Valley Best Ambulance - Ossining VAC Best Ambulance Corps - Cortlandt VAC =D> Best Something or other - Westchester Brassmen Thanks to all who came. It was HOT AS HELL and as HUMID as, well I won't go there. Thanks big time to Cortlandt VAC, Ossining VAC and our Fly-Car for their assistance with our multiple heat stress patients. Today was a busy one for us, and I am PRAYING it's over for the night!
  25. Hijacked?!
