Slow down people, I can already forsee a paid vs. volunteer fight starting. Why does so much Mutual Aid get called? I don't have an answer for that. If I had to take a guess, perhaps manpower, specialized resources, or even that old tradition of "calling one's friends for the big one..." In our Department, we respond to a structure fire with 3 Engines, 1 Quint, 1 Rescue and if needed, Our Tanker plus 2 additional right off the bat. The last two structure fire we had (both in July) we contained and extinguished on our own. We called in FAST for Mutual Aid on both. We also utilized Mutual Aid for a Cascade Unit, EMS and to provide coverage. At the second fire, it was so damn hot and humid our IC called for an additional Engine Company for relief. Not to mention there was a F-up in dispatch, where many MANY members didn't know we had a fire. (Different subject for a different time). I agree with Hudson however, that Mutual Aid is getting called more and more. I don't disagree nor agree with it. I just hope it works, and that it is used correctly. I can't tell you how pissed I get when someone calls for something just to "do the right thing." I've heard requests for FAST that takes 10-15 minutes to respond with a crew of 3 or 4. I've even witnessed or been a part of a Mutual Aid request that skips a town....??? Why does everyone think they are better then everyone else? Why do people call for things they don't need, is it to ensure they are called when their neighbors get thier next big one? Bottom line - Mutual Aid is GREAT. Use it, but use it wisely. And for the love of pete, GROW UP and do what is best for your incident, not your reputation!

If I'm not mistaking, the Village of North Tarrytown officially changed its name to Sleepy Hollow about 8-10 years ago, roughly. It may be less or more, I just can't remember the exact date. The whole reasoning behind it - to the best of my memory - was to honor the history behind the headless horseman and the rest of the legend.

Isn't it? Great video clip - how was it made? Stay safe gang, if all goes well I should be down again in the Summer of '06.

You're right!! Our site has been up for a little over two years now. I setup e-mail boxes for everyone initially, and over time knocked it down to those that actually use them. This number - TWO!!! As for the content - I hear you 100% I am an avid web-buff, and most of the sites I visit don't get updated nearly as often as they should. Our site, which is setup through firehouse websites, is updated BY US between 4-5 times per week. It's a pain in the a** sometimes, I won't lie, but it makes it worth visiting. Take a look and let me know what you think! PS - is there any PCFD sites?

http://www.piercemfg.com/new_deliveries/ne...129&Type=pumper For those of you who don't know how to find it real quick, like me. Not bad...will it fit in your firehouse? If not I can find a home for it.

Thru our website, we can create an e-mail box for anyone we want. The Department doesn't offer anything (thus far), but at least on the company level we have something.

Buy blankets, find someone to "cuddle" with, and leave the thermostat off! If your pipes freeze, who cares!!! What the hell do you need water for in the winter anyway - there's snow outside! Bring it in, melt it, and use it for bathing, boiling pasta - whatever you need. If you're REALLY COLD, go out in your car and fire it up - gas prices are so cheap it's like we're stealing from the oil companies. Keep up the global warming efforts gang, we'll never need heat again!!! *Yet another great idea from the remember585 presidential campaign.*

My Minitor V battery holds a charge for 2-3 days without a recharge. As for that "big word" Doug used, seems like everytime Mohegan keys up at the same time as someone else (which is probably 5-6 times minimum per day) my pager opens up. BUT - it also goes off for no apparent reason, no cell phone nearby, no microwave popcorn making, etc. etc. etc. I love my II's - I never, EVER should of given mine up.

Is this "Hands-On" or lecture training? Good cause either way, supporting the NFFF.

I've had one for a few months. For the most part it works well. My only complaint is that for some reason, it "goes off" for no reason. The other night while I was at work, my other half called me and said it kept activating. It's been doing that more and more. Personally, I'd like to see the Sonars come back.

Good job Glen!!! From the Gang of Group 4 Sorry we didn't make la fiesta, but someone had to hold down the fort.... *646 - the choice of champions.*

The 24th Annual Croton FD Fire Fair is on Sunday October 9th at Harmon Firehouse from 1pm - 5pm. Fire Truck Rides are the reward for those that complete the fire safety work stations. These stations include the "Stop, Drop & Roll," "E.D.I.T.H.," and "Get out safe" participation stations. CFD personnel will be visiting the local school beginning this week to promote fire safety.

So, the TL isn't manned all the time? Is that a special response kind of thing?
-
Such an inspirational little boy, with a family so loving and strong. All of us at Washington Engine Co. No. 2 in Croton send our deepest condolences to the Arena family and all of those who Jimmyboy touched. God bless all of you.

I'm a little confused. What rigs are manned all shifts? Not including when there is sick outs and something is taken out of service. Front line......what is it?
-
Isn't Blimpies the Obese Gentlemen's Club chain??? I am all confused. There's sandwiches there too? NICE!

Good luck to y'all!!!! Especially my two buddies, x635 and LaGrange Firefighter Paul Demilto. Stay low and enjoy the ride men!

I've always worn black, but wouldn't mind switching to tan. As someone who lacks good night vision, It may make my life a bit easier to see everyone if they were wearing lighter colored gear. But I think we're going back in time, because many Chiefs are going from their white coats BACK to black ones. If you want to look like one of the gang, then just WEAR YOUR GEAR - that'll do it!

I think that in many Westchester Departments that a Truck (Ladder) responds in addition to an Engine for manpower. As for the road block thing, great idea. We run an Engine and Rescue, unless it is on the Highway where we add the Tanker. We were trying out two Engines on the highway, one from each end, but I think it died out, sadly.

Good to see that we still have some cavemen in the fire service. Let's not end it with just sexism, let's keep the ball rolling BACKWARDS in time. Let's discriminate because of religion, and race, and anything else we possibly can. COME ON PEOPLE!!!! WAKE THE FCK UP, IT'S 2005 FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!

Anyone know the end results?? I know ours - 0-3.

Chances are that tone y'all were hearing is a phone line test for one of the radio towers in the County, more than likely the one in New Rochelle.

Rumor has it that once they finish building it, Thornwood would have it. I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. Truth of the matter is this, I have no clue.

Wanna take 'em Dave? I'll sign us up.
