  1. From what I recall during training one time or another, as long as you mark it off and clearly point out the hazard so that the "normal, reasonable citizen can recognize the potential hazard," we may leave. I think our best answer may lie within someone from either Con Ed or NYSEG instead of all of us speculating the solution. We can leave that to the thousands of others posts we already do that on....
  2. And across the windshield it will say, "The Creamsicle." J/K
  3. Using IE - I hav e to scroll down to the end of the page to see the actual images.
  4. Did they spank the monkey?
  5. Assuming the fire truck(s) responding to this fire used their warning devices....would they have been disqualified from judging?! What about the Cub Scouts - did they earn any badges for "Parade Float Firefighting?" Man, I will be checking youtube.com for this one!

OVAC transported 3-4 parties from the fire building.
  7. There's been plenty of times where my little helmet light actually comes in handy. Two examples I remember off the top of my head include an MVA where I had to climb into the car and hold a patient and the other time was when I had to check out a dryer vent hose in a tight residential laundry room. I think we should all carry at least two lights - one smaller and one bigger, such as a helmet light and a Survivor-like light. We issue Survivor lights to all our structural members now, and all of our apparatus has Vulcan lights. I do agree that the Garrity doesn't throw a ton of light, but there is a time and a place for it. For the record. my Grandma did buy those, I used them to make shadow puppets.
  8. That's her!!! If my memory serves me, when that unit was replaced in 1993 it went to some museum in Maryland. I think it was a firefighter's museum. Great rig! It was refurbished in the 1980's - I think in 1984-85?? I will confirm this.
  9. I'm back. I had to change my pants cuz I pissed myself laughing. It's sad but true - any tool can parent a child, but it takes more then a pulse to raise them!!!
  10. I love Willie Randolph, but this just ain't their year. Pack 'em bags boys, the season's over tonight.
  11. Yep. But for the big prize, at what point in Croton does the 3rd rail end? A. Croton-Harmon Station B. Metro-North Harmon Yards C. Brook Street Crossing D. North of Brook Street / West Yards I'm like you Seth, I love trains and I love the history behind the Hudson Line, specifically my neck of the woods.
  12. Seth - YES!!!!!! I was thinking of the same thing - "Bust a move!" I don't know about others, but I am so prone to certain sounds, like talking and music, that the only thing that wakes me up is the beeping of my alarm clock and my pagers. If the alarm clock is on music mode - I sleep thru it. Sorry day tour, I try to set the darn thing right but the other half likes the music...
  13. Some of Onlocation's photos from this drill courtesy of www.engine119croton.org: Pics from Drill Here's a shot of most of the rigs at the staging area. It looks like E230, E119, 2081, U12, 2341, E134 & E121. PS - How can I shrink this image on here?
  14. You would think that with the amount you put into someone's benefits and pension that it would be BETTER!!! A 50% pension isn't terrible, but in my humble opinion its not enough to survive at the end of your career!!! It would be nice to keep 100% but we know that's not possible. It's too bad you can't keep a 60-65% pension - that would be more substantial to survive... For all the time one puts into their civil service gig where they serve and protect their communities for 20, 30 and even 40 years they deserve more! As for the high rate set aside for benefits - blame all these greedy insurance companies and outrageous medicinal costs. The same meds just over our northen border are a fraction of the cost - for the same stuff!!! Rant over....had to do it.
  15. Well done!
  16. Looks sharp! Keep up the never-ending quest for perfection! (I'm also on that same path....it feels like an uphill battle and I'm driving a 20,000 pound car with a one-gear transmission and less horsepower then a leaf blower!!) Love the site, love the forums and loving the ambition. Hat's off!
  17. I just wanted to thank Battalion 17, Lake Mohegan FD and all others involved in coordinating this great opportunity. It was, for me anyway, one of the better drills I've been lucky to be a part of because it was a REAL BUILDING and not a simulation. Does anyone have any ideas about how we can increase the number of building we can use for realistic training? I am familiar with the NFPA 1403 standards and all the other legalities - but anyone know a way to promote to our public to give us old structures?! It was fun working with some of the Departments I haven't had the chance to for a few years. Those in attendance were (by Battalion) Battalion 10 Peekskill: 2341, 2342, E134 FAST Buchanan: 2552, 2553, U12 Verplanck: Personnel only with Montrose Montrose: 2272, E121 Croton: 2081, E119 FAST Battalion 17 Continental Village: 2132, 2133, E230 Mohegan: 2262, 2264, 2266, 22610, E255, E258 & VAC Yorktown: 2531, E270 FAST Millwood: 2253, E247 Plus Battalions 10 & 17 and Field Comm 1 from WCDES. I hope we all get to work together some more - I think drills where we all work together has disappeared for way too long! Battalion
  18. I really liked it too! I especially enjoyed listening to that guy from Oakland talking about the helmet in the oven thing. That was funny. I also like the "scary shower" thing. Is it me, or do you guys feel really, really bad for the guys from Ipswich? Man, I hope he knows he did nothing wrong, he just happened to be first in for something awful. I can't believe their staffing!!!!! I missed that last part about the LODD info cuz' I was on a run, that's definitely something we have to change!!! Excellent, EXCELLENT program, I will definitely watch it again. "Where's your No Fear sticker now, Spanky?" Hate to admit it....but when I was 16-17 I had one of those too, then one of my best mentors told me if it is how I really am, then I am going to get myself and others hurt. Ripped it off the next day...
  19. Check this one out. http://www.break.com/index/fire_helmet_cam.html Pretty cool to watch, although I think we are losing focus on why we go to fires - and it isn't to tape them.... One thing that grabs my attention - it seems like these guys are putting their air on too soon. Perhaps waiting until making the door would be wiser?! Just my two cents.
  20. Boy, if that's your attitude, take this site and stick it in your cram hole!!! JUST KIDDING BUDDY!!!! I have always appreciated the site and all of your efforts. My only suggestion is to add more pics and possible move them towards the top of the home page?! It's a PITA to scroll all the way down to see them. As for the ads, they're not too big and are to the point. No reason to alter them. Keep up the good work lil' buddy. PS - If I can help with anything, like always, let me know.
  21. There's only a reserve air tank for the brakes in most rigs TODAY. Our old L-44, a 1971 Maxim, shared air for the brakes and horns. One morning, we were going to the train station for a fire and the horns drained the system and the brakes locked up. The back end of the Truck locked up and started to swing in the other lane. Luckily, the driver was calm and had it under control in no time. Nothing like "fish-tailing" from South Riverside on to Croton Pt. Ave. with oncoming traffic coming.
  22. I got 1, and it was a gift.... (FDNY L10)
  23. Sweet! I may have to crack open the wallet and actually buy something for myself...
