  1. It's ironic. It always seemed to me that those posts hardly ever produced much discussion, let alone bashing. They usually garnered a couple of comments and died off. The bashing/personal attacks happened in your "legitimate" posts.
  2. I can second that. I just did a little research looking back to 2002, and no one at that time or today had only 200 credited.
  3. NYSP intermittently augments MVPD Patrols on Thurs, Fri, Sat's 4p-12a, under the auspices of the State IMPACT Program.

  5. Well, down in Newburgh, if it wasn't for the SP unit you'd have lots of gaps in coverage. LifeNet seems to prioritze interfacility transports (pre-arranged insurance) versus scene calls. In June, there were several dates that all three LNNY units were down for "service". Leaving ONLY the SP Unit. Perhaps you could be more specific about your complaints? "Not a fan" is a little, well, vauge.
  6. LifeNetNY has two units in the region as well.
  7. The PBA is saddened by the unexpected, off-duty death of New York State Police Trooper Justin C. Mangano on July 7, 2008. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow Troopers. Trooper Mangano, 31, of Silver Creek, was stationed in Troop B at SP Massena. Trooper Mangano enlisted in the Division of State Police on 8/16/07. He served as a U.S. Navy Corpsman from 1998 to 2004 and was active in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was stationed in Iraq for seven months and was involved in the battle in Fallujah. Funeral arrangements have been finalized for Trooper Mangano, and are as follows: The family will be present at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, Silver Creek, on Wednesday from 7 pm – 9 pm, and on Thursday from 2 pm – 4 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. To send condolences, visit www.holeparker.com.
  8. Have any Career FD's put a limit on non-essential driving?
  9. This link brings you to a 2005 Court Case where a candidate required special scheduling and was denied, in the end, filing a lawsuit against the NYSP. The candidate lost, as the NYSP argued (successfully) that granting special schedules for one person unfairly inconvenienced other Troopers who would then have to alter their own schedules to cover his. http://www.aele.org/law/2005FPOCT/sides-nysp.html
  10. No one mentioned not responding to alarms. It's the urgentness (and in many cases outright recklessness) in which the alarm is taken in. Can you honestly say that RLS statistically impacts your response times?
  11. And, unfortunately, no system is 100% perfect, so this scenario could happen. However, considered the odds of that AFA that was legitimate versus all the MVA's and close calls that occur when responding to these alarms. I think the benefits outweigh the costs. Besides, hasn't it been discussed here (on EMT-Bravo) a thousand times, how much time does L&S cut off your response? Seriously?
  12. I'm sorry, but I must disagree. While no system is perfect, if clear guidelines are outlined and uniformly followed, this policy could be a good move on Baltimore's part. In the two examples you give, the first would be treated as a "hot" call anyway, as initial information suggestes a structure fire. And in the second exmaple, medical calls without enough information woul be routed as "hot". I've never understood why FD treats AFA's as high priority calls, calling for L&S responses, while (almost all) PD responds to Burglar alarms without lights or sirens. I do realize a few PD's respond L&S, but that doesn't make sense either.
  13. Impossible to predict. Figure, on average, 1000-1100 openings over the next four years.
  14. Due to the selective nature of the NYSP, on average, over 25 candidates are processed for every one opening.
  15. This happens often between the part-time PD's in Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess. Since those guys are are limited to 20 hour work weeks, several of them work 20 hours with two agencies in order to secure a 40 hour work week. i.e. 20 Hours with Somers PD and 20 Hours with Cold Spring PD
  16. No, SAM-2 is assigned to the Saw Mill. SAM cars = Saw Mill HARRY cars = Hutch CHARLIE cars = Cross County BAKER cars - Bronx River The first letter corresponds to the highway...
  17. Black male fled SAM-2 during a Traffic Stop. Subject wanted by NYPD.
  18. Two out of 16 isn't so bad. There are a lot of more legitimate polls which don't get such a good percentage.
  19. I like to think I'm very open minded, but there is no argument to be made here. You cannot be processed wearing a wig. What's next? The next perp states they have a religious need to be photographed with sunglasses on!? Or maybe face-painted. Courts have already decided that Muslim women cannot be processed with a veil, this is no different.

  23. Define 'large'. If it was a 400lb patient, 30mg might have not been enough. 400lbs = 181.8kg
